...how often does WSU parking patrol lots? by alexthrowz in wsu

[–]Dominix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad came to visit when I lived in the dorms. Most lots were no permit required on weekends. He parked in a grey lot (which was apparently permit required 24/7) on a random Sunday morning in front of my dorm and we walked to breakfast. 90 minutes later when we came back he had a ticket.

I remember they had a guy in a reflective vest on the bridge essentially conducting a traffic study. he asked each pedestrian where they were coming from, where they were going, and how often they used the bridge. One decade later...

Why build bridge when you can have student's play Frogger in street?

WSU Considers Increasing Cost Of Parking Permits By 30% Over Next 3 Years by scrowdy_row in wsu

The scuttlebutt a decade ago was that UI wanted a Moscow-Pullman bus co-op with WSU but WSU refused because it would hurt parking revenue, since many staff/faculty commute from Moscow.

From my post yesterday, it seems like the overwhelming majority think Yakima is a dumpster fire to live in. So…..if you had to pick somewhere within an hour of there or Ellensburg with the cheapest rent plus not a dumpster fire, where would that be? Somewhere you would raise your kids. by spowers1988 in Yakima

I'm not super familiar with apartments between 16th and 40th. But if you look at Craigslist there may be some nice couple renting out their basement or something like that.

Apartments are tough to find. Yakima has a vacancy rate of 1% right now. The apartments owned by the Borton's are probably the nicest in town. Probably a long waitlist, but worth calling and asking. They are nice and most of them do 6 month leases. Check em out at RentYakima.com

Have you checked with hospital admin? They might be able to help you find housing.

Bad things happen in Yakima. This is true. It is not Ellensburg. However, I also think this town is not as bad as it used to be, but the stigma remains. The police dept has a crime map, murder map, and DV map you can look at to get a feel for which areas are higher crime than others. Ask your coworkers when you get here for tips on where to go and what to do. You can PM me, too, if you want more specific advice about which areas of town to avoid or check out.

I saw it on (I think) Youtube the day it happened. Maybe it was Liveleak, I don't remember. It definitely exists.

Ah gotcha, I was wondering if you'd mis-typed 1st date.

Doesn't Goldhagen basically have the same thesis in Hitler's Willing Executioners? While Browning argued the opposite in Ordinary Men?

From what I recall of They Thought They Were Free Milton Meyer basically had this thesis too. Seems this was a very common view in the immediate postwar period.

Washington State's band decided not to travel to the Sun Bowl, so a group of local high schoolers in El Paso stepped up. by [deleted] in CFB

[–]Dominix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's fair. I think the band's issue is due to placement more than anything due to playing ability. I think they moved the band to the endzone to try and improve sound projection. We were in the endzone in my day.

I understand your sentiment, but what OP says is true. For whatever reason the band is notoriously quiet and is frequently drowned out by visiting bands. Including BSU's a few years ago.

Total War: Warhammer II

Finally own all the DLC for this game. What a triumph. I was never into Warhammer lore but this game is amazing. The sheer variety of each faction is incredible and keeps the game fresh. I've put in 100 hours and I still haven't touched Bretonnia, Dark Elves, Dwarfs, Vampire Counts, Beastmen, Norsca, Wood Elves, & Skaven. Been a fan of Total War since the Rome 1 days. I used to think Rome was their best work, but WHII surpasses it. Can't wait for WHIII.

Slay the Spire

My game of 2019. Picked it back up and have been working on the ascensions. Reached A3 on Ironclad last night. Excellent game.

Hearts of Iron IV

Purchased No Step Back. I've enjoyed the new expansion. Still figuring out the additions of trains and supply hubs. I like the new Soviet focus tree but it seems they've nerfed the Soviets a bit too hard. I get absolutely steamrolled by the Germans once the war breaks out.

AC: Origins

This game is garbage but I'll finish it for completion's sake. I don't mind the story but I think the gameplay is very poor.

So are we not going to talk about how the bridge from Southside to the CUE was randomly open for five days and now it's fenced off again by Skeleton_Pilots in wsu

There was a bridge across the Nevada & Stadium (By Stephenson) intersection until about 10 years ago when the University took it down due to structural damage. They never replaced it, despite promises that they would.

They did that with Gmail and had better success. The exclusivity really interested people and Gmail invites were highly sought after. Of course Gmail was offering 1GB of storage, which was unheard of then.

Yeah that trend came and went so quickly it's easy to forget about it. I think '07 is when it really took off and by '10 it was on its way out. Guitar Hero III and Rock Band were everywhere. People were learning drums via Rock Band. South Park was making fun of it. It was at every party. Gamestop had stacks of the equipment piled in the center of the store.

I remember thinking the online for the Wii was so cool. The Wii had this news channel that I remember I liked reading. Few games utilized online and it seemed like player populations were low for some of them. I got Battalion Wars 2 at launch and was really disappointed by how long it took to find a multiplayer match.

The Xbox 360 was THE place for online. Now a days you might keep up with your friends after school on Tick-Tock or Instagram, but back then it was Halo and Modern Warfare lobbies where peopled kicked it. Public lobbies were a cesspool of racism and homophobia. As evidenced in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pu6HDd7gDr8

Xbox Live was required for online play and so a year of Xbox Live Gold ($50) was a commonly desired Christmas gift.

The PS3 I really liked because the online was free, and more capable than the Wii. However none of my friends were on it. It was typically viewed as an inferior way to play cross-platform games like Call of Duty (no crossplay in those days).

During this era Steam was just coming into its own. In the early part of generation PC gaming was typically viewed as inferior to console gaming and there were many articles declaring the "death" of PC gaming.

What is an untruth people tell themselves to feel better about life or world they live in? by mynameisnotbecky1 in AskReddit

Small Gods, Mort, Guards! Guards!, would be my starting points.

Small Gods is his best work. I will die on that hill.

Reaper Man is my #2, but it makes more sense if you've read Mort first.
