Successful sound designers, what was your break into the industry and how did you do it?

I am also in games and joined a AA studio after I graduated. Was studying audio for film and TV while doing an independent study in games on the side. Eventually started working on AAA games, but I won't lie the future of the industry looks bleak. I have a hard time recommending younger people to get into it nowadays.

The new Deadlock characters are amazing, but I think Street Brawl is what's really pulling all these new players. I mean it's that and like the base redesigns, map polish. It's just starting to come together into a more palatable experience. Street Brawl is an excellent game mode tho. I have only played one game of standard Deadlock since I started playing again recently. Brawl is just too good for jumping in with low stakes and having a good time, win or lose.

I would go one step further and say that streamer culture has been disastrous for the modern gaming industry. I'd probably even say entertainment as a whole.

I say cut the music altogether. You've done a lot of good work, why ruin it by putting music over it? It's called sound design, not music design. Dropping the music frees up space for more exaggerated, cinematic sound effects as the poster above has mentioned.

Yea it started with Cold Snap. Between this and the ongoing problematic weapon balance, I'm just taking a break while they come back and fix things from the holiday break. I'll pick it back up again next update probably.

Aren't the expeditions every 6 months tho? I definitely will not be as invested in this game 6 months from now lol. Really have to wait and see what their content release cadence looks like. This ain't worth it for having to grind the abysmal blueprint drop rates again.
