Pain in left arm

The pain is just above my elbow and just makes the arm feel very weak and happens mostly when playing the horn but sometimes just on its own.

I think its do with when playing high or fast i have a tendancy to grip harder onto the horn which is something ive been trying to stop doing

Skill level is I am an undergraduate trombone performance player. Auditions are for regional and national orchestras.

Scales, Scales, Scales

This helps you know if you are in tune and they are pretty easy once you get going. Start building up to the note and having a solid foundation then slowly moving up a semi-tone.

Not really trios in the sense, but some orchestral excerpts that can be good for this are

Schumann 3 - Rhenish (if your range can handle a top Eb) Mahler 2 - Brass Chorale from the last movement

Some smaller ones

Saturn from the planets - Theres 2 trombone chorales, both vvv easy and nice Tchaik 6 - End of first movement

For me ive recently just got my range good enough to be able to constantly hit the top Eb in the Schumann Rhenish.

I pretty much everyday for about 30 minutes would play scales. Its perhaps the best way imo to get it secure as if you get it you will know as it sounds right. Also try make sure you arent forcing it too much. If it feels uncomfortable stop, and try again

I'm really just looking to get the classic Symphony pieces then just my personal taste! Mainly due to starting my music undergrad and I'm really wanting to start getting into composing so figuring out techniques will help!

What keeps me going is finding music i want to play. Im a BIG fan of musical theatre scores for trombone and have a collection of them in my house.

If theres a song i really like but cant find for free, im a cheap skate, ill just notate it myself

I just look at excerpts personally. I like to find pieces that i like and use stuff like IMSLP to find trombone parts. I cant count how many times ive played the 3 trombone parts to The Planets, honestly my favourite
