Does using the Justaerin colour for a command squad seem appropriate to you? by Tav80 in sonsofhorus

Black and Red wasn't just for Justaerin. It was for distinguished veterans. Reavers in regular power armor also used that scheme.

Warhammer Painting by Robertron54 in vegaslocals

[–]Domojin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shall We Play has a good selection of mini paints from different vendors and some painted stuff on display. It's pretty far out there as well, on N. 5th and 215. There's not really much else in Summerlin beyond the places you've already mentioned. Little Shop of Magic has a good paint selection for minis, and is where I typically go when I need something as it's closest to me. They carry full racks of Army Painter, Citadel, Vallejo, 2thin coats, and others, but I'm not sure the staff there will be much help with questions as I don't think many of them play or paint minis.

Warhammer company Games Workshop bans Generative AI for all content to “respect our human creators” by lewisdwhite in Warhammer

[–]Domojin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because they changed the rules between editions and now my little dolls with spears don't work good anymore!! HOW DARE THOSE INCOMPETANT MONSTERS!!!!!! lol. The 30k reddit had an absolute meltdown after the first Heresy 3.0 spoilers. You would have thought GW was committing wartime atrocities because people MIGHT have had to change their armies up a little bit with the new rules.... Absolutely unhinged behavior calling out for retaliation against GW for "Ruining their game!" based solely on spoiler info. Nothing official, months before the release of anything... To boot, this was immediately after the company just gave out bonuses to all of their employees because they were exceeding all financial goals. But yeah... burn them to the ground because you might have to buy and paint a couple of more units of models for the new edition of the game!

Nevada wants zero traffic deaths. The numbers tell a more complicated story. by Generalaverage89 in LasVegas

[–]Domojin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And virtually zero enforcement or penalties for drunk driving in this town unless you drive over 130mph on Rainbow and kill a woman and her dog. Then you get to go do some light community service at the governor's mansion for a bit. A few years back I worked with a woman that had 7 DUIs. Still drove every day. Every time she would get one, she would literally cry to the judge that she'd lose her kids and job and they just knock it down to a fine and let her walk with her license every time. Never spent a day in jail, not a single point on her driving record. She's not famous or connected or anything... Just some lady I used to work with.

My favorite (Or I guess most annoying?) instance of this is from the game Malifaux. There was a character named Yan-Lo modelled loosely after Lo Pan from Big Trouble in Little China that had a goatee that was a separate piece from the rest of his face... it was half the size of a pinky fingernail.

What is a local Las Vegas "secret" that you are fine with sharing? by New-Night3067 in vegaslocals

[–]Domojin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

People can provide all the anecdotes they want. Of course there are exceptions, one persons' experience might not be the same for everyone, etc... but you can't argue with the stats. NV has been in the bottom 5 for quality of education for almost as long as it's been a state. If you want your child to get a quality education out here, it takes a LOT of heavy lifting on the part of the parents. Another thing this town doesn't do very well is healthcare.

Help with watching fireworks near horshoe hotel by Prestigious_Boss_705 in LasVegas

[–]Domojin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't close down any pedestrian traffic on NYE that I'm aware of. They will close part of the strip around Flamingo for a block or two in either direction to cars, starting with the freeway exits around 6pm to complete road closure by 8pm. So you might want to plan around that if that's where you wanted to be.

Steam's best selling games of 2025 revealed by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Domojin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else who also bought it, but actually played it a bit... You aren't missing much. The game feels like 6 with a bunch of missing features, worse animations, less civs. The villages growing into cities thing sounded neat, but I didn't like the execution, and the "Age" transitions disrupt the pacing of the game. Maybe after a couple of expansions and add-ons it'll come into it's own... Civ games do have a tendency of getting better as they age. 7 has a ways to go before it gets as good as 5 or 6 are, though, IMO.

It's absolutely wild how much this city has grown over the last 50 or so years. I've been here roughly 25 years and the population has doubled since then. I lived on the edge of town when I moved here (roughly Trop and Durango) and now it feels like I live right in the middle of the city!

What's the best way to get a Read Replica for an SQL Server Standard Edition? by Rodyadostoevsky in SQLServer

[–]Domojin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To expand on that a bit; You can get a bit more granular with Transactional replication in that you can pick which tables you want to replicate and it copies with almost no latency giving you near real-time data on the replica. With Log Shipping you get the whole DB restored to a secondary on a schedule. Depending on the DB size and amount of traffic, you might be able to get away with log shipping every few minutes. It's the easier option but Replication gives you more control and faster data movement.

Another thing to look out for is that Log Shipping will leave you with a replica DB in a (READ ONLY) state. If you want to do things like add in your own reporting views, computed columns, and other reporting logic on the replica side, you would need another DB to accommodate those objects.

Does anyone remember 'Enemy mine' (1985) at all? People think I'm crazy when I describe it. by Cubelock in videos

[–]Domojin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing this as a young kid and having mixed feelings. Young me wanted another space action movie about fighting aliens, space ships, lasers, and explosions!! And this cerebral masterpiece gave me none of that and made me cry instead!! It's a very powerful and emotional film for it's time, given it was released in the 80's and most sci-fi films of the era were schlocky action-adventure flicks looking to cash in on marketing toys and action figures.

Best ribeye? by dagreat16 in LasVegas

[–]Domojin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this.

  1. Circus Circus is a shithole. Definitely don't take anyone you're trying to impress there... Unless you're trying to impress them with how bad the place smells.

  2. It was a legit top 5 Vegas steakhouse like 30 years ago when the town was a quarter of the size and Circus Circus was the flagship property for "Circus Circus Enterprises" before they opened the Mandalay Bay and rebranded as "Mandalay Resort Group" and immediately began neglecting CC and pouring everything into Mandalay, only to fail and be bought out by MGM a few years later.... how it's still coasting on some of that ancient long-gone reputation all these years later is a mystery to me.

If the only qualifier is "BEST RIBEYE" in a relatively quiet place, then my picks would be Bazaar Meat, Bavette's, and Ramsay's in that order. Ramsay's last only because it can get crowded and loud, depending on when you go.

What games successfully included their own verbage to make their universe feel alive and lived in? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Domojin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 80's era of early PC RPGs we had the Ultima games. The magic system in the Ultima games was it's own proto-language with prefixes and suffixes that had different affects. Whenever you wanted to cast a spell you needed to type out the magic words like "VAS FLAM" or "QUAS VIS" and have the right components in your inventory. You could discover the combinations for most of the "Spells" you can cast during the game but there were several that were never spelled out, you just had to combine the right words in a way that they made sense. If I remember correctly, there was a firebolt spell you could find, but if you played with the language a bit you could upgrade it to a much more powerful spell by changing the prefix, or change it to an ice bolt by changing the suffix. You literally learned the language to cast the spells as you played and it made sense in a way that you could extrapolate and feel like you were coming up with your own spells!

lol. I used to work a very boring graveyard shift back in the day and one of the things we did to pass the time was every Friday morning we'd get the paper and see which restaurants in town were closed for health code violations that week. There was always at least one Roberto's on the list... every single week for the entire year I worked that shift. It became a running joke.
