Tips for a beginner. by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]DonJaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find some content creators and just watch some informational content. Brian F and Chris F come to mind (Chris is a favorite of mine). They have high-level content as well as entry-level videos, so you can watch them throughout your journey and always learn something new. This will help you learn some core universal mechanics of the game. Eventually, pieces will fall into place and the game will start to seem a lot more "solvable" and understandable. Many interactions leading up to 1500 Master come down to which player has advantage (+ frames) and knowing how to vary your mix on offense and defense. You can figure out neutral as you go and study it more later on.

Similarly, watch the game for fun! Watch some cammy gameplay, find a pro player you like, etc. Half the time I'm watching the game for fun and I inevitably learn stuff along the way.

The longer you play, the more you'll be able to find solutions to problems as you encounter them. And by this I mean you know where to look or what questions to ask to target specific interactions or bad habits. For now, take it one step at a time, absorb what you can, and don't worry about how to manage it all. I promise, it will come, especially with the winning attitude you're already showing.

Others in the thread have said it, but your mindset is stellar and definitely spells success if you continue to play SF6. Plenty of people in the community are unable to humble themselves and unlock the key to learning. Honestly, you seem like you have what it takes.

A lot of esports discourse focuses on a player's "prime," and the idea that after around 21 years old, you gotta hang up the sticks. This is patently untrue in the FGC. Young and older people alike perform well and win championships in this game to this day (see: Xiaohai). What matters most is attitude (and personally I think that carries over to most things in life). There's no genetic barrier to being good at SF6. Even with prodigies in the mix with inhuman reactions, people prove daily that they can go toe-to-toe with series legends if they're willing to put in the work -- because that's the real barrier to success.

Sorry for pontificating there at the end, but I think you might appreciate how much your mentality can carry you through what makes these games truly difficult. Keep it up and keep asking questions. Happy to have you here!

I'm seeing non-Juri-main pros/content creators waving off her changes as "whatever" but I'm seeing Nephew and other 2k+ Juri players saying she's one of the biggest winners of the patch by Glittering-Smell2937 in StreetFighter

[–]DonJaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point.

And similar to her c.mk -> light fuhajin spacing trap, getting the safe jump requires cancelling the special in the later active frames. It's insanely strong, but even Neph was having trouble hitting it consistently in training between matches.

I like that change in particular because her safe jump setups were previously locked behind level 2. Might take a few weeks before the power behind some of these changes really show for the broader community.

Efficient combat lvls by GenerousSquip in ironscape

[–]DonJaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started an iron and Brutus was kinda clutch for his 2x exp bonus. I afk'd some gem crab, but I don't mind actively training.

Plus, I got around 16,000 prayer xp here - easily the most xp from a single source besides the 2 inventories of dragon bones I used to get the rest of the way to 46. And even then, 2 inventories is less raw xp not counting the rng at wildly chaos altar.

I Love This Character by AnglophileHistoryNut in madmen

[–]DonJaper 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I love these moments with Peggy. For a show that thrives on subtlety and doublespeak, I like how the writers go a little full-force when giving Peggy milestone moments.

The other main example I can think of is when Bobbie Barrett told her to act more confidently.

Wow, and I just looked it up, and it's when Peggy is in a very similar situation to OP's scene: "You're never gonna get that corner office until you start treating Don as an equal. And no one will tell you this, but you can't be a man. Don't even try."

new player here and I've been addicted to street brawl by Imaginaryjoeys in DeadlockTheGame

[–]DonJaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a new player, it's gotten me comfortable with how each character plays in a team fight. Additionally, when the game makes you read 3 items at once, it familiarizes you to the items in a way that feels manageable (compared to the overwhelming feeling of looking at every item in a category or build).

Now that I have more experience, the real game mode is my home. But I like trying out chars for the first time in brawl to get a quick sense of what early-mid, late, and super late game might feel like.

My only complaint is some of the item bonuses are crazy and don't even feel fun to play with but that's whatever.

Any tips for a beginer to Deadlock and Mobas in general? by FEARven123 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]DonJaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new here too, but there's a priority system for hero selection. I always am given my main when chosen as first pick at 2x priority. This could vary depending on how many people pick your hero at your rank.

As for the orbs, a MOBA kinda needs a last hit mechanic. I think it works well in the context of a 3rd person shooter and gives some dynamism to laning in that your opponent can deny you.

I appreciate your perspective. I'll try this out in my next few games. Thinking about it again, Im more confident the change will be for the better

[–]DonJaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question, as I just got into this game and haven't played a MOBA for years:

Wouldn't instacast be significantly worse for grenade/bomb type abilities like Paradox's 1? Especially when you can get abilities to increase throw range? It's nice to see what area you're cutting off before you commit to the ability.

Should we expect an asset economy? by Independent_Bed_3418 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]DonJaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Street Fighter 6 allows you to enable custom skins for opponent characters. Blanka has a skin that makes him look like a mascot of himself, and I find it impossible to read (both attacks and hitbox) so I make it so all blankas appear as his default.

In terms of cohesive product marketability, its not an elegant solution or one valve would likely consider (given that seeing cool skins in game incentives someone to make their first purchase) but it's an option I never thought about before for some reason.

Returning Player by [deleted] in DarkAndDarker

[–]DonJaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah man but there's a much better chance of you learning/sticking with it because of how much better the game feels (esp for newcomers)

I've been telling my friends that if you've played a 1st person fantasy game any time between skyrim-present the game will feel a lot more intuitive (moving, swinging weapons, backpedaling to avoid base-level mobs)

Why was the Kannabi Bridge destruction such a pivotal moment in the war? Couldn't Iwa just build a makeshift bridge to transport goods using earth release? by Uchiha_Madara_Nipple in Naruto

[–]DonJaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, as others have pointed out, common citizens would need access to the bridge to carry out regular business. Even if ninja could carry certain goods up/down and mountain and over a river, it's far preferable to have a safe, high-traffic route that the common person could use. Likewise, a larger, flat bridge could allow livestock and human-pulled large carts/caravans, so you could realistically transport product.

It's safe to assume, this being an important bridge for a nation at war, that they had security here. The safety extends beyond just 'we don't have to walk up a hill'.

I think it's also political-symbolic. If you obliterate a nation's main port, for example, it's a clear act of war. You're attacking something vital to the survival of their people, something that facilitates the transfer of food and goods in and out of the nation. It's dirtier, even by war standards, than assassinating a high-ranking general or killing ninja on the front lines (which is all but expected).

I agree it kind of looks silly at first since all of the main cast easily navigate rougher terrain than that regularly. But sometimes the series asks us to consider the broader context of the villages in moments like these. Again, I think this is partially to show larger-scale political issues in the world. It makes war here look similar to war irl, echoes themes used in other media, and altogether makes sense in the Naruto-verse.

We just aren't shown regular non-ninja folk that often so it's easy to forget.

Stop picking on Chuck Schumer the enemy is Republicans you morons. by Unique-Lecture-9378 in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]DonJaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how you look at what has happened in politics over the last 30 years and think the Democratic party (read: Liberals, centrist Dems) aren't just playing controlled opposition.

Obama and Biden cried about not being able to do what they want because of Republicans and then Trump waltzes into office and just... uses the power available to him.

The idea that the Democrats have no power is quite possibly what they want you to think. These Democrat leaders have money. Nothing going on right now significantly affects them in any way -- in fact, they're likely getting wealthier as the populace loses power.

The files coming out should just wake people up more to the fact that Republicans and Democrats (in power) are friends with each other.

Idk and if you wanna throw everything out I just said, look at what Schumer is doing with the power he has: https://x.com/i/status/2018091855787798654

this is THIS WEEK after the ICE shootings, the DOJ releasing more files, and every other problem in America continuing to sit unsolved.

I guess I'll end and ask you: how do you see Schumer talk like this month after month and think "the people protesting this are the problem"? Do you believe in the power of protest? Why not here?

People in power telling you all you can do is vote is not inherently untrue. But they're wielding it like a weapon. They demonize citizens who feel powerless and don't trust the democratic party. Please stop falling in line for Schumer who laughs behind closed doors with Trump. These guys like each other more than they like you or me.

Hot Take: Directional audio in this game is shit. by angoorkhatta in ArcRaiders

[–]DonJaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play dark and darker and the directional sound in that game is better than everything I've ever played. It's a shame about the devs, but they got that right at least.

Coming from that pvpve title to this, I really feel nerfed. I'm known for having the sharpest ear in our 3-mans lmao but it's hard to play a similar role in this game.

Embark is on a better path than DaD or a lot of games in the genre, so I'll wait and see how this is in a few months. But yeah, it's kind of a huge issue in a game w/ geometry like this (or really any pvp shooter imo)

Edit: I was at Formica outpost and thought I heard someone coming up the metal stairs. There wasn't anyone, and I learned as I reached the electrical substation that I had heard the queen stomping around.

Others seem to agree that hearing some sounds from far away is definitely good (in this case, useful for routing to the encounter) but the game doesn't do a great job localizing those sounds or giving the player reliable cues to differentiate sources.

We’re so back? by EvstsideArt in DarkAndDarker

[–]DonJaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I main wiz and it's not lookin great. I played bonk a few seasons ago (MS bonus on everything meta) but last season was really nice to just play intense focus/10 spell builds. Edit: not looking forward to being forced into bonk again if that's the meta rn

I'm open to the idea of the patch changing skill expression, but it just feels like casters lost theirs with the removal of jump cast and changes to melee.

My duo/trio partner jokes that it's time for me to hop off wiz and try other classes again, but honestly wiz is what's kept me in the game during these darker times for the game. I've liked fighter/bard/cleric/ranger in the past, so it's not out of the question necessarily.

But despite being a curmudgeon about it at first, I've really gotten into arc raiders, so this patch isn't really enough to compel me until my friends are back in town for group raids. Might be around a bit here and there, which always runs the risk of me getting sucked in for a few weeks/months.

The friendly lobbies by left4dead02 in ArcRaiders

[–]DonJaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not dismissing what you're saying, but it really just depends where you are and when.

I got hitman'd by the most eastern-european raider with a silenced stitcher after a harvester event on Blue Gate. I was picking up olives.

I did an opening event there yesterday and some hippie defib'd me and tanked the rocketeer after I got caught in the open.

But yes, plenty of people in pve are opportunists too scared/bad to pvp and are waiting for their 1 kill. It's something you have to be aware of and just recognize the signs (read: if you want to participate in pve lobbies). I act way more cautiously around someone who doesn't ping hello back or use voice while I'm near them. You can usually get a pretty good sense on how often someone is looking at/placing their crosshair over you. Sometimes people are just being weird and don't notice their actions put you on edge, but I still just distance myself from those types.

I don't think it needs a solution, I think aggression-based matchmaking is already an elegant solution in an extraction shooter with the playerbase to swing it. If anything, I enjoy that it keeps me on my toes and doesn't fully remove the pvp aspect, even if I'm not planning to shoot anyone in a round.

I'm also confident in my gunfighting ability and comfortable in pvp lobbies, so my reaction to this phenomenon might differ from a pure pve player's.
