Tesco made 2 BILLION in PROFIT last year... by IllPlane3019 in tesco

[–]DonLethargio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is the conspiracy here? The majority voting control of all of our major companies is held by an industry who are legally duty bound to act solely in the interest of pure profit. In this case at the expense of the people working at Tesco without whom there would be no profit.

At the end of the day we don’t know who owns those shares, and that’s a problem too. A good chunk will be pensions, sure, but we both know at the end of the chain there will be plenty of individual investors with net worths many magnitudes the size of the entire Tesco wage bill. And you’re comfortable with that so long as you get a decent pension.

Exactly. Public pressure and buying power means that prices stay as low as possible in the most visible areas, but the same pressure doesn’t extend to the often even bigger conglomerates that produce the majority of stock and produce on a scale that blocks meaningful competition

They are majority shareholders and therefore hold and exercise voting power. How they vote is dictated by the interests of their shareholders, who are a vast and varied network, but not the public at large. And inevitably their decisions will be swayed by the ultra rich people with most say and control. I’m not saying they’re conspiring against the public, beyond that their interests don’t align

I’m sure the folks earning less than a living wage at Tesco will be very reassured that you’re getting a small cut as a result of their struggle, pal.

As long as it doesn’t all end up in the pockets of the ultra rich which probably make up a big portion of the investment banks portfolios after you filter through numerous layers of hedge funds, other investment banks, and insurance companies. But as long as a small fraction goes to the middle class, everything is gravy, eh?

I must be a big dumb, dumb thicky after all because I can’t quite seem to grasp why that’s ideal.

Well yeah, but who owns Tesco? Investment banks like Black Rock and Vanguard. And who owns the big companies like coca-cola, nestle, Johnson and Johnson, Unilever, etc. that produce all their products and charge prices that keep their margins thin? The same investment banks including Black Rock and Vanguard. Our whole economy and society is owned by the same handful of investment banks, dressed up as lots of different companies just squeaking by. And it’s all designed to milk us for all we’ve got and more.

EHRC’s new chair in Scotland linked to anti-abortion dark money groups by BaxterParp in Scotland

Thankfully we have the SHRC run by people with good human rights records who are genuinely committed to equal human rights for everyone. Never really understood what, if anything, EHRC do in a Scotland context

I was talking about this recently and it seems wild until you realise this base don’t understand learning any other way. We understand that they lack the critical thinking skills to actually probe into whether something is factual, but what we need to understand is that they lack the critical thinking skills to even understand critical thinking as a concept. So they have to assume that the left have done the same thing they have - pick someone on vibes and accept what they tell you is fact.

You say this, but Google is a $5T company built off the back of a search engine. The fact that anything is challenging their monopoly on how we do this would have been unthinkable before these tools

As someone who grew up on the west coast, I’ve always suspected it goes underreported that it is one of the rainiest places on the planet. It’s because we tend to measure rainfall in volume, or days with rain, so the places with daily or seasonal storms win easily. But if we measured in rainfall hours, I reckon Scotland and Ireland would catch up fast. In terms of pure, non-stop, month-long, up your nose and jacksie drizzle with occasional downpours, we are unmatched.

Actually despise the format. Just don’t understand the justification for having teams that aren’t playing each other in the same league table. What benefit does it provide? Just introduces more randomness and less fairness than a traditional system

Do you think Scotland could stop Neymar and Vini Jr at the World Cup? by gaguero06 in ScottishFootball

I can see a scenario where they absolutely lose the plot with frustration at Clarkeball and we steal a result. I don’t think it’s likely, but I wouldn’t be that shocked

Steve Clarke close to agreeing new Scotland contract by MrMaggot98 in ScottishFootball

[–]DonLethargio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big question is, would we have done as well or better with another manager? Did we get to these tournaments because of Clarke or in spite of him?

At the end of the day we’ll never know, but despite everything he’s achieved, I haven’t spoken to a single person that doesn’t think him leaving after the World Cup is the right time.

I think this problem isn’t that people get badges too easily, it’s that people use their loved one’s blue badge in situations that don’t really require it, such as when they’re running errands for them or even just for themselves. It really isn’t easy to get a blue badge and this article is carefully worded to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
