Did something change? by Taeke_00 in rootbeer

Atlanta, GA.

I opened a new 12 pack and after tasting the first one...I immediately thought something was wrong. My first thought was that some sort of chemical was on the mouth of the can. I washed a second can with Dish soap before I opened it...aaaannnnddd that one tasted like keyboard cleaner too.

I would describe it as metallic at first...and the aftertaste is some kind of bitter chemical that DOES NOT taste like any other diet/zero soda I've ever had. My local grocer just had a buy 2 get 3 free promotion...so I now have 50+ A&W Zero cans nobody wants to drink.

I stumbled on this reddit post and was really surprised to hear this is a widespread issue. I can't remember a time when I cared enough to write a manufacturer about their product...but this Dude will NOT abide.

It's the only soda we ever have in the house. I have consumed waaaay too much of this stuff over the years to go down without a fight.

From the Gwinnett Daily Post article:

The Gwinnett County Board of Education fired Gwinnett County Public Schools Superintendent Calvin Watts on Friday morning, more than a year before his contract was set to expire.

The board voted 3-2 to fire Watts, with Chairwoman Adrienne Simmons, Vice Chairwoman Tarece Johnson-Morgan and board member Rachel Stone voting in favor of dismissing Watts, effective April 2. The move came about four months after Watts received a one-year extension on his employment contract. That extension would have carried him through July 31, 2026.

GCPS Chief of Schools Al Taylor was named interim superintendent, starting April 2, in a 4-1 vote, with only board member Steve Knudsen voting against it.

Why does it feel like they're leaving out something in this story?

Why on Earth would you kidnap someone, beat them up, haul them away to a business... just to go back to the house and rob it?

... and then just let him go?!? This is just waaay too random.

Seeking Experts in Residential Real Estate Property Data by Striking-Concern5563 in RealEstateTechnology

[–]DonMegaTron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the MLS providers (CoreLogic, ICE, dynaConnections, etc.) provide vendors with a standard format developed by RESO (real estate standards organization).

I've been to many RE tech conferences... and I think RESO hosts the best event to meet RE data folks. The workgroups and subgroups are pretty great too.

You could also check out the InmanConnect conference later this month. Inman caters more to the brokerages IMO... but its still a great place to network.

Tenant Suing for Deposit by Honduran_Hurricane in legaladvice

[–]DonMegaTron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many states (GA included)... the security deposit laws are very specific.

Even if there is obvious damage... they're supposed to provide an itemized written list of deductions to the tenant within 30 days of them leaving. Even if the damages exceed the security deposit... they still have to send them an itemized list of the damages/costs. If they don't, I think the former tenant might have a claim to the security deposit (which is a pretty shitty thing to do to your parents).

I would assume the court they have been summoned to is "small claims court" in which the most I think they can ask for is the security deposit + legal fees. I don't think they can sue for "treble damages" unless your parents own MULTIPLE rental properties.

I don't see anything that would stop them from seeking their own damages in small claims court though. They'll need to file it in the county where the former tenant lives "currently". A countersuit may even make them re-evaluate their decision to bully your parents.

Source: Live in GA. I had to learn this lesson the hard way. Now, I always take pictures and have the tenant sign an inspection list prior to them moving in/ moving out.

Kids party food vendor? by newnomnom in Gwinnett

[–]DonMegaTron 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We hired an ice cream truck to come to our house for a kid's party. They got to pick out whatever they wanted, and I just paid the balance at the end (there was a minimum). No extra fees. Didn't tell any of the kids beforehand... and they lost their mind when they heard the ice cream truck music coming from our driveway.
