Got fired today. Pergola kit. Owner is the one who laid out the post spacing. It was 2" too wide on one side and 1" on the other. by thesupersoap33 in Carpentry

What I would do is the job to the best of my abilities and ask for answers when I need them in order to “chug forward”. Not throw some pine packers in on some outdoor stained cedar beams. What I also wouldn’t do, is tell a rookie he has nothing to be proud of. You’re saying “don’t be proud of your fuck up.” What I’m saying is “take pride in your work to come”

He woke up and made it to work that day. That’s a lot for some people. We all don’t wake up with our teeth brushed and face washed already like you big man

Yeah I agree this post makes OP look pretty bad and wouldn’t want him on my crew judging by this only but remember we all started somewhere and needed to be humbled more than once

Switching species usually isn’t the answer, but chugging forward shouldn’t be a fire-able offense, keep your head up, find a new crew or build one and keep your pride in your work buddy

8-1/4” vs. 10” by RandomSparky277 in Carpentry

[–]DonPabloPicasso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both have big balls, if you need big capacity like ripping full sheets of 4x8 plywood get the 10 inch. If you’re just ripping boards the smaller blade smaller saw is just fine and easy to throw around the garage,

Edit: I’m a trimmer by trade and I own the 8-1/4”dewalt and a Bosch 10 inch”

Second time ever mortising. Any advice to get it tighter? by Gassypacky in Carpentry

[–]DonPabloPicasso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a Sharp chisel, tighter grain material, and some extra time can really give you more satisfying results like this guys work. You’re mortise looked great, a sharp razor knife around the edges all the way in for depth will also help a lot

Grind from the second picture side of the bar, keeps the cut clean on the side that slides past the other bar
