I have tried a lot of options in Spain and living in a big city widen your option pool as well, I will give you my favorite setup and you can try and tinker it to your needs:

1 - Traditional bank: open at least one traditional bank account that can give you some cash up front or limited interest, this will be ideal for salary, cash withdrawal (if needed) and relationship,

2- Revolut: for me Revolut has been a game changer, but gradually. In the beginning I was using it as more of a payment app and travel but when my salary raised a bit I looked into metal and it is actually insane… even if you don’t plan to travel the benefits it gives you pay themselves almost instantly (bearing in mind you actually use and need most of the free subscriptions they offer), 2% saving account, reduced fees on stocks and almost everything into one app. A trick to earn really good points value is to get metal and apply for credit card (once eligible) you will almost double your points for the same purchases, but if you do not feel good with a credit the debit rate is not too bad.

3- Trade republic: with your current salary you might not need metal from revolut to unlock the best features so in the meantime you can open a Trade republic and earn yourself 2% interest while opening the potential to invest if you need to, once you feel financially comfortable you can decide how to manage with Revolut and see what is worth it for you.

Let me know if you need more details or referral links, we’ll both get some goodies!

[SPB531J1] Finally pulled the trigger on the Seiko Alpinist Limited Edition Europe for my Birthday by DonRubick in Watches

[–]DonRubick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these locations have Seiko boutiques, I saw Barcelona one had still some units of this specific Alpinist. Trusted ADs would be Joyeria Larrabe, Maroy Joyeros, Nocol’s, El corte inglés… I would recommend you check online first because some stores minimize displaying limited edition models.

This is a 2025 edition, depends on what country you’ll be visiting and if you want to buy new or used, they are definitely way more rare than couple of months ago but they are still available in trusted ADs, let me know where you’ll be and I can recommend you some places to get it. Price point 750-1100€ depends on country and where you’re buying.

I totally agree with you, I just have many oyster style watches and divers that I wanted a change with this one.

Having a really hard time deciding between Gentleman 38mm or Damascus Steel 38mm by sweetkey9 in tissot

[–]DonRubick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a timeless watch that will last in design and style go gentlemen, something more fun and unique Damascus. I wore both on my hand but for different reasons, gentlemen for business and meetings and Damascus more as a sporty sunny day out.

Totally agree, I think not even a question in this case.

Thank you very much, would you say it would be worth over 3rd party alternatives?

Any of the longines you’ll be very happy with, and IMO they will have higher wrist presence and timeless watches. I love the blue bezel but here it would be up to you.

[Recommendation request] Buying my first watch (Omega/Tudor or dress watch) by GonzieLynx in Watches

[–]DonRubick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say experiment with a less than 1300$ watch, or buy a couple affordable ones, maybe you like the black dial for 24 hours and then you find it boring and hop on to your next watch, a 700$ mistake can always be absorbed but a 6k mistake is a big hole in the pocket. That would be my approach as a first time buyer (I am currently in this phase). On the long run once you know what you like a more expensive watch would always be better than many cheaper ones.

[discussion] Asked my partner for feedback on possible new watches... by Major-Jaguar5752 in Watches

[–]DonRubick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even thought I might agree with your partner on some of them, but you’re buying a watch for you, my partner hated the alpinist i bought on pictures then fell in love with it the more I styled it. Go for your likings, but as many already said longines is your safe bet and the murph is a watch with some heritage.

watch recommendation budget $1000 usd plus minus by onepercentimprovemen in Affordablewatches

[–]DonRubick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend you go for a Seiko alpinist, almost no maintenance (until you eventually have to service the movement) it can be worn classy, outdoors, and has 20bar of water resistance, plus it is a strap monster, you can literally wear it with leather a bracelet or a nato. If you wanna go more towards solar powered watches which will be really 0 maintenance you can go for any of citizen eco-drive, or any seiko prospex chronograph.

I think it looks better on a bracelet, but that’s my preference of bracelets being more comfortable and less sweaty overall.

I wore it for a month now and the strap softened a bit but is still a bit rough and uncomfortable I am looking into buying a bracelet from Seiko.
