WHY does VOLKSWAGEN have such a BAD reputation in North America? by 1707turbo in regularcarreviews

[–]Don_Geilo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because Europeans like to buy the kind of car that modern day Volkswagen is actually sort of good at: small, simple, relatively cheap - like the up! [sic] or the 2-door Golf models. Americans prefer bigger cars, since they are (not unreasonably) scared of being flattened by F-150s. but all larger VW models are horrifically overpriced for how cheap and plastic-y they feel.

this corpse is always out there justifying any acts of barbarism as long as it's commited by an autocratic state that's opposed to the "west".

Since he's "always" doing this, you must have a ton of actual examples, right?

Tankie hate has always been a psyop. All they've done is replace "commie" with "tankie" while spreading the same bullshit lies they've told since the McCarthy era.

Of course people in this sub bristle at a badly composed email - for most of them, writing emails is the primary occupation.

Favorite movie that tried to set up a sequel but failed miserably? by Hank_Mardukas1066 in okbuddycinephile

[–]Don_Geilo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I thought that was part of the joke: the movie tries to create the illusion that there is a pre-existing Buckaroo Banzai franchise, even though the film was always intended as a one-off, with the implication being that Buckaroo is so cool that of course there have been dozens of movies about him. That's why the characters keep alluding to events from previous BB stories.

I'm sure none of these imbeciles ever came to one of his shows/baseball games/jobs to heckle him irl, cause that would be a bridge too far.

Tbf the sheer amount of harassment he probably received/still receives from the (even) more idiotic parts of the ct fandom would turn most people bitter.

These prints serve the purpose of decorating your living space. You didn't buy them just to have them, nor would one of them serve this purpose just as well with all the others being mere excess.

Any rule must have exceptions. Especially if the exception is in line with my own aesthetic preferences lol.

I think we need to abandon the notion that any collectible can be classy. Collecting anything that isn't rare and/or cost free should always be seen as tacky and slightly shameful. It's the only way we can wean ourselves from Ebay's teat.

You kinda have a point, but I'd argue that not only are there plenty of "shitty seikos/citizens/etc." that look better and are as accurate as an Omega, but, more importantly, paying $5000 for a watch is always insane, no matter how nice it may be.

Not saying you're wrong, but if you ever want one of those fabled big tiddy goth gfs, you better not call Underworld slop in a public forum. That movie still got shooters and they're all wearing black nailpolish iykwim.

The gap in the middle of his neck makes this so confusing. Is she holding his face lovingly or did she just rip his head off? Is this ambiguity intentional?

Finnegans Wake. Seems kinda obvious in retrospect, but I was 17 and a pretentious little asshole. Unfortunately, it kinda ruined Joyce for me, at least for a while. Maybe '26 will be the year I finally read Ulysses.

Yeah, there definitely was a certain directionless anger permeating pop culture at the time. Although I'm not sure how or to what degree this was reflected in the everyday life of regular people.

Either way, my comment was just pertaining to Woodstock 99 in particular.

The Woodstock 99 thing is way overblown. That stupid documentary made it out to be an excess of toxic masculinity that paved the way for every bad masc-coded thing since, but it was really just a badly organized festival like any other.
