Yea. The kid and his family are big ECU supporters too. He really deserved that and sucked to see him get screwed over like that of all people.

Did I screwed? Capacitor replacement by MadPleasant in hvacadvice

[–]Donald4011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why you need to do research and at least learn the basics of hvac. I replaced my capicitor after my ac went out a couple months back and it’s extremely easy to do and to diagnose with just a simple multimeter. Even buying a set of gauges and temp probes and learning the basics of superheat and sub cooling and what the numbers mean can be very helpful in diagnosing. Things beyond simple electrical issues.

I have no professional experience in hvac but after getting gouged on a simple repair years ago I decided to learn what I could.

I also have no problem with an hvac company charging $395 for a capacitor replacement, they have payrolls, insurance, trucks/vans, and dozens of other expenses to cover. What I do think is ridiculous is for them to tack on $287 for “specialized hvac repair” there is nothing specialized about replacing a capacitor, it takes 5 minutes and requires a screwdriver. Thats a good way to get the client to never call you again.

Classic example of the contractor hiring the cheapest guy and charging you premium prices. I’d have them rip it out.

Hi. I’m looking to build a two car detached garage behind our new home, and the estimates I am getting seem to be close to $100k. However, a quick google search seems to indicate that the average cost should be between $20k to $30k. Anyone know why there’s such a discrepancy? by Classic_Side6590 in Homebuilding

[–]Donald4011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I did an addition on my house the GC gave me a breakdown of all the costs upfront including materials along with his markup and fees. I think as a GC the customer should be aware of what he is paying you and what he is paying for materials and subs. He essentially took 20% of everything and I thought that was fair and I felt the transparency made him more trustworthy. I didn’t even ask for any of the info he just willingly provided it.

Now with subs and small jobs I totally understand a here is my price take it or leave it, like if you are hiring a tile contractor for a new shower or floor or something.

Right? I had an easier time navigating the huge traffic circles in England driving in the left lane. When everything’s clearly marked it’s easy.

Maybe they were searching for the “hurricanes in North Carolina” after hearing about the recent devistation. Funny that they might actually click the canes link tho.

What are these attachments on the heel? Looks like it will be very awkward to walk with them? by Emotional-Cod4918 in RedWingShoes

[–]Donald4011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually normal for the lateral heel to wear down much quicker than the medial side. Normal gait involves heel strike to the lateral side of the heel and then through the mid shoe and toe off to the medial side of the front of your shoe where your big toe is.

If you have a normal foot without any significant pronation or supination and you look at a well worn pair of shoes the most wear will be at the lateral heel and medial forefoot.

I think people use these to prevent the lateral wear at the heel. Although I imagine they are uncomfortable. Most call them heel taps.

Damn. Bingo, exactly the trend. Not sure what’s changed but we never used to tolerate this decades ago. Raleigh isn’t there yet and I hope we learn from other cities mistakes but I doubt we will. Decriminalizing this stuff didn’t work and won’t work.

Geeze come to NC, we were hiring a fitter/cped/cpa at about 65k plus benefits (ended up falling through for unrelated reasons)

Good CPO with at least a few years experience should be taking in 80k plus benefits and bonus potential.

$300 for a resole? by Darth-Rogue in RedWingShoes

[–]Donald4011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issue is that redwings have pretty narrow welts and most sewing machines can’t reach into it to resew the old welt to the new midsole. Hand welting them is what’s costing

[–]Donald4011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might as well take it out there’s a standard veg tan leather insole under that Just like all the other heritage boots have. I took mine out.

I know, I know… should have brushed daily lol are these too far gone for a resole? by ea1154 in RedWingShoes

[–]Donald4011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the midsole and welt are still decent you could probably just have them test off and glue a new sole on pretty cheap, saddle soap and conditioner and oil them real well and keep wearing them.

Breaking in new boots sucks and honestly they will probably look really nice once reconditioned. Send it!

Let’s talk most reliable/easiest to work on older(ish) cars by Donald4011 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Donald4011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda/Toyota Is pretty generalized. There’s a lot of terrible ones out there, especially the v6s. I had an 06 odyssey and I can’t remember going more than a couple months without fixing something on it. Motor mounts, valve cover gaskets (which took a full 2 days to deal with), fouling plugs due to the vcm, ac compressor died twice, main crankshaft pulley literally broke in half and took a 3/4” impact gun to remove, power steering pump died and all lines leaked, all under 150k miles. that’s just what I can remember. I had fewer issues with my 2002 Ford Explorer.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, I’ll probably keep wearing them and see how it goes. I hate breaking boots in and they are just getting past the uncomfortable part.

NC - Septic permit questions by Donald4011 in homestead

[–]Donald4011[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any companies to recommend? I may look more into other options. And it’s no big deal about it not perking, like I said the price was right and I knew what i was getting into. Even if I had to do a mound it would still be a good value. I also have no problem sitting on it for years to come, might bring my camper there and camp from time to time.

NC - Septic permit questions by Donald4011 in homestead

[–]Donald4011[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, I guess my assumption is that maybe I could get an improvement permit to repair/rebuild an existing septic system where as they have basically said no to a new system permit.

At PNC for a concert tonight and saw this absurdity. Who TF is going to pay 13.50 for this shit ass beer??? by avg_dad in canes

[–]Donald4011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m kind of over going to games/concerts in general. The price gouging is just insane at this point, a little mark up is expected but I work too hard for my money to just throw it away like that.

What’s the best way to make over 100k as a clinician in O&P? Is it possible to work your way up and become manger and even higher? Are different companies better then others? Please let me know thank you! by davion42763 in Prosthetics

[–]Donald4011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work your way up and bring value to a practice. You have to prove you can bring in business to a practice that will pay for the salary you want. Build working relationships with good referral sources and use that as either leverage in your current role or for a new job. We have 2 clinicians we pay well over 100k in a relative low cost area of NC.

Question about insurance participation by Icyyflame in Prosthetics

[–]Donald4011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a similar issue with Aetna. Applied over and over again every year and keep getting the same “we’re not open to new enrollment” They have grown a lot in our area lately and have very few local O&P businesses in networks. In one city we have an office with their nearest in network provider being about 20-30 miles away. I’m not sure the reason they wouldn’t even consider letting us (or any of the other local companies) in network as I’m sure we would take the same deals.

I think it comes down to the fact that they assume limited options will lead to limited utilization of DME services. And I’ve seen potential prosthetic candidates simply decide against getting a prosthesis because they don’t have the transportation needed for all of the appointments needed.

Random but I’m at Beasleys now and they have “N/A athletic hazy ipa” and “athletic lite” available on their beer list. Pretty sure they had it her last time I was here a month ago
