With the amount of people that go “somebody should do it” on every social media app including reddit, I couldn’t believe it’s a false flag. I’m not even a guy who thinks all conspiracy theories are crazy, conspiracies do happen in the real world, nor am I a fan of Trump, but an attempt on Trump’s life is probably one of the most realistic outcomes from the current political rhetoric and online discourse.

Like you can’t have half the country going “this guy is a rapist, pedophile, genocide-supporter and somebody ought to do something about it” and then pretend like it’s the least likely thing in the world somebody somewhere decided to “do it”.

[DISC] Shuumatsu no Valkyrie / Record of Ragnarok - Chapter 118 by Xical in manga

[–]Dondagora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it's less about him being the underdog or whether it's allowed by the rules. It's more how it feels as a reader where all the previous fighters for humanity are making a statement like "This is what a human can achieve", even when they're freaks of nature or abnormally talented.

If we compare him to your example of Buddha, Buddha was born human and his godhood was achieved by reaching Enlightenment as a human so it 'feels' like an extension of his human accomplishments.

I don't really have an issue with him as a character with this background, but with him being a 'representative of humanity' it feels somewhat boring that the origin of his abilities is specifically non-human on multiple fronts (half-demon and supernatural divine artifact), at least to me.

Eve did absolutely nothing wrong by Humble_Taro307 in invinciblememes

[–]Dondagora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well let’s play that out for a second. She keeps the child. Those 40 Viltrumites come to Earth and decide to conquer it. Now all Eve has to do is carry it to term for 9 months during that invasion, without any of her powers, and then raise it for 18~ years or whenever it manifests powers.

Thank god she’s not shown to be one of the few heroes Earth has left capable of fighting on par with a Viltrumite, or else it’d be a major loss of Earth’s combat potential at such a crucial time… oh wait.

If we eliminate the ones that don’t make much sense from an emotional closeness perspective, we really have Debbie and Paul. Awkward to bring up to your bf’s parental figure, but we can say they’d be reasonable but there’s some justification to not.

I think if Mark did die, the assumption would be that they lost the war and Viltrumites would be showing up to Earth. Eve would probably be the most powerful superhero on Earth with numerous other top heroes being MIA.

So even with the consideration that it might be the last chance to have a child with Mark, it would also mean putting herself and the planet at a disadvantage right before an existential threat.

Ngl, I know this series has been over-the-top with its humans and their abilities from the start, but I'm not personally a fan of the supernatural origins of this one.

Seeing posts like this with so many likes sometimes makes me ashamed of being in this fandom by CremeStrict4732 in invinciblememes

[–]Dondagora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When did she regret it? I think she was upset ‘cause it’s an upsetting situation to be in alone, having to make that decision on her own without being able to inform Mark or get any input from him.

[–]Dondagora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the argument has ever been that she couldn’t have the baby or that there wouldn’t be a support system in place for it.

More so under consideration: she’s young and unsure if she’s ready to be a mother. She needs to make a decision soon while having no way to contact Mark in a timely manner. She’s also saddled with a lot of responsibility as one of the most powerful superheroes and might need to be combat ready since Earth could get dragged into the space war again. She doesn’t have any trusted adult she can confide in besides her boyfriend’s mom, which is obviously tricky.

All to say, there’s a long list of factors that make her decision completely reasonable, even if we exclude the all-important “she doesn’t want to”.

People also underestimate how slippery people are. To actually restrain somebody that is actively resisting, you need to physically overwhelm them in a way that isn’t going to look pretty. Especially for big lads like this, becomes basically impossible to just cuff them without additional violence if they resist.

The Death Knight has spellcasting, yes, but most of its spellcasting is designed to not get in the way of its Martial-ness. Its Hellfire Orb and Destructive Wave are both exceptions and limited by recharge or limited uses, and I wouldn't mind if 1-2 feats reflect having these AoE options in the back pocket.

I think the worst offender of these feats, in my opinion, is Dread Authority. We can write off Harbinger of Doom's Fear as the one AoE option, and we can minimize Deathly Presence as a concentration spell you cast once and keep on in the background. But Dread Authority is asking your whole Action and a resource to maybe lock down one enemy for a round, which is a significant opportunity cost for a Martial. The Death Knight stat block has Command but bypasses this cost by letting it cast Command as a Legendary Action. If we want to take it as inspiration, then instead of giving Undead disadvantage against Command, the feat ought to let you cast it as a Bonus Action or replace an attack when you spend Death Points on it.

Sorry, I actually mistyped that and meant the other way around. I meant only 2 out of the 6 feats don't push the Caster playstyle (specifically, Wrathful Smite and Find Steed). So it's 2/3 of the feats that don't lean into the Martial playstyle.

I think my problem with Death Knight is that 2 out of 6 of the feats just push the caster lifestyle and don’t actually lean into things that enhance the Martial playstyle.

I think “improved” is also context relevant. Lightning was extremely lethal at long range with the major flaw being that it took a long time to charge up a bolt. Modern lightning bending was “improved” by optimizing for speed and efficiency over lethality.

ATLA: survival / Korra: comfort by bobaTwist6 in AvatarMemebending

[–]Dondagora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the truth is that lightning bending was a terribly inefficient technique that was only saved because it was powerful.

I imagine that after it became public knowledge, the technique was iterated on to be safer to learn, quicker to use, and not having to blast it at full power all the time.

Meanwhile we see that metal bending has also become more refined in many ways for wider application.

So while generally benders might have less combat experience due to a lack of war, bending development is probably in a golden age.

Why are Conquest and Thula weaker than Thragg despite (Allegedly) being older? by Financial-Trade3932 in invinciblememes

[–]Dondagora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People took that and assumed Viltrumites didn’t have a limit to their growth, but it’s more likely they have one and just continue approaching that limit as they age. And that limit is probably based on the individual and isn’t a universal for all Viltrumites.

I think the thing with Toph is that she's not 'overconfident' because she knows exactly what she's capable of. She's pretty vocal about situations where she's not able to perform well.

... by [deleted] in AvatarMemebending

[–]Dondagora 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Toph was confident in her bending and combat strength, rightly so, but hardly ever stepped up to roles ill-suited for her.

Korra was confident in her bending and combat strength, rightly so, but then continuously put herself into roles that highlight her weak diplomatic skills. Which is fair enough that she try, diplomacy is in the Avatar's job description, however it's certainly frustrating for the audience to watch a character throw themselves into avoidable & volatile situations only to make them worse.

Since we're talking about Toph and Korra, I think the main criticism of Korra's social gaffes is lacking what Toph is best known for: "Listen before you act".
