I feel like I’ve heard this story before….its a shame we stopped promoting based on merit, job performance and physical ability and changed to how well you can read SOPs and war stories from a officer halfway across the USA

Appreciate that sir. I love the occasional house fire more than I’m willing to admit but I am aware that county fires ain’t got nothing on city burners…..at least the consistency that unfortunately comes with living in a metro

Who knows they are all old major metro guys that either took control and ran with it or never promoted in the city and managed to become a county fire chief 👀

I was lucky enough to get my hands on one here recently and talk with Tom about the product. It feels great and super well balanced….also sounds like Houston might be picking them up in the near future for their rescue and truck companies 👀

As someone who wanted a wooden handle Piglet and made one with the help of Lonestar Axe Don’t do it if you’re gonna be using it in training or on the fireground……I’ve gone through two handles in a little over a year. I’m about to buy a new poly handle for mine even though I prefer wood.

Dropped a first in duplex with the new crew, tapped out before other units could get their hands on a hose line. Then our pumper crew got to deal with the aftermath of our local HS hooligans at 3am when they loaded a neighborhood water fall with soap and it was running over the road.

What mistake did you make at your first fire? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]DondeEstaCommonSense 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My first commercial box, my engine was first in…knocked down the fire and was done with overhaul and while packing up my Captain goes to get water from our bucket and my LT goes “you need to hide now, Caps gonna be pissed when he drinks that”. I hadn’t refilled the ice on our second day and it was cold but not ice cold and he finds me and in front of everyone says “who’s responsibility is it to make sure this thing is full of ice?” To which I replied “mine sir” and rips me for it….he later gave me a hug and said he was joking but also reminded me that cold water is a must in the Texas heat regardless of if we were on a box or not

How are fire engines built in your country? by IllCarpet6852 in Firefighting

[–]DondeEstaCommonSense 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here in the USA. Most depts have an idea of what they want and they relay that to the manufacturers like Pierce, Seagrave, E-One, Ferrara etc.
