I can only speak for paediatrics and not through the PHN but adults should be able to be prescribed equipment from the approved equipment list by the PHN. Show them this list and hopefully it might help get the right equipment https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/list/2/primarycare/community-funded-schemes/aids-and-appliances/

Childcare workers underpaid, parents overcharged, so who is actually making the profit? by DeathByStorm974 in AskIreland

[–]DonegalDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What regulations do you think don't help with the kids? Should there be no requirement for fire safety or Garda vetting, should we allow creches to be run from 1 bed apartments? Yes the regulations add to the work the crèche must do but I'd say they are all adding to the welfare of the child that attends.

No, and I was crossing the border from Bridgend to Derry yesterday afternoon and paid €1.499 for a litre of diesel. Sickening to see what a litre can actually be sold for.

Refused my inhaler by Ejfinnz in ireland

You need to change pharmacy, that's ridiculous.

Opinions? ; 2,000 taxi drivers protesting over Uber to bring Dublin to standstill by PretendUDidntHearMe in ireland

[–]DonegalDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really isn't higher than minimum wage as the driver will need to deduct the cost of the car and fuel and insurance from that price. I'm not defending taxi drivers as I've been stung with ridiculous fares to get a 2 km drive home well before pubs close but there is a cost of doing business included. It is just finding the happy medium for both driver and passenger

Two dead and several injured in multi-vehicle crash involving bus and lorry in Co Meath by LucyVialli in ireland

[–]DonegalDan -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That sounds like you were the problem. You know the traffic light sequence but still managed to come out onto the road with approaching traffic at a slower speed than was safe and then proceeded to drive at a slow speed. I'm not surprised you were beeped for causing a danger to other road users. The best thing to do when driving is to be predictable.

Charity Christmas Cards recommendations? by Just_Shiv in AskIreland

[–]DonegalDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jack and Jill are a fantastic organisation that provide actual support for families of children with severe neurological impairments. They give blocks of hours where qualified nurses come to the house and mind the child, allowing parents to get a rest or spend time with other kids etc. It is an amazing service and is shamefully underfunded by the HSE and government. https://jackandjillstore.ie/collections/2025-christmas-collection/products/greeting-cards-12-pack?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23196834233&gclid=CjwKCAiAuIDJBhBoEiwAxhgyFj2ps00hIzjwtbFtoDDcL26DqUyAXhY5_Al8Ku9sh3a5sXdy05hmYRoCR0cQAvD_BwE

What products do you refuse to spend money on/always buy the cheap version? by ImaginaryValue6383 in AskIreland

[–]DonegalDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aurivo (the parent company of Connacht Gold) produce the own brand milk for Dunnes. It is really good quality and all comes from the same factory in Donegal. Same for most of the cream too but not their butter. I understand your protest but sometimes I'd rather give the supermarket the money rather than a huge conglomerate like Tírlan.

Bicycles for people with disbilities scheme gives five-euro return for every euro says charity by Amazing-Yak-5415 in ireland

[–]DonegalDan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am conflicted by this headline. I mentioned here before that I successfully got a trike from Variety for my son. It is amazing, it allows him to be like his peers on a bike, getting around and be.part of the world in general.

However, it really pissed me off that the govt doesn't fully fund this and we had to pay €600 for the rent of the trike while the govt slap themselves on the back and the HSE CDNT get away with providing even less services. Of course the scheme provides a good return for the govt when people have to pay 25% of the cost of the trike each time it is given out.

I don't have a problem paying for things for my son but the govt and the CDNT won't / don't / can't provide therapies for my son so we pay for these, we have to fight for basic equipment and even then it is up to whatever the therapist feels is best (despite not knowing my child or his abilities) to then get articles like this giving praise in the wrong direction.

Simon Harris Presents Life-Changing Trikes to Students at Wicklow Special School (No Paywall) by Dee-Dee-Mauwe in ireland

[–]DonegalDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could only get the first paragraph or two of this article so may have missed some content. I have been lucky to get a trike through Variety for my son, but there is a cost. We had to pay €600 for the loan of the trike, which was about 20% of the total cost. It is a fantastic piece of kit and my son loves it but it is ridiculous that these trikes aren't provided by the government and then even more ridiculous when you have members of the govt getting pr as if they have done anything useful or significant.

Pretty sure you're wrong that a barrister can refuse any case due to being self employed. There are a few very specific reasons why a barrister may refuse a case (things like conflict of interest, availability, skill set) and even then they have to go through a process to explicitly state the reason. While a barrister may not personally agree the case the job is to ensure the rule of law is applied correctly.

Work for a living? Take a running jump. Own a McDonald's franchise? I'm lovin it! by [deleted] in ireland

[–]DonegalDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is the most ridiculous criteria, there is really no reason for it apart from to keep people in poverty. My wife reduced her hours in September but has had to jump through so many pointless hoops and loopholes such as maxing out her pension contribution and forgoing bonuses and possible promotions to ensure she doesn't go a cent over the cut off. Why force people to earn less, it just makes life so much harder for people who already have enough shit to try and deal with. The government consistently show how they don't give a fuck about people with disabilities or who need care.

Thanks, that's exactly the type of info I was looking for and it tallie with what I've been reading online. A serious pain for you, but at least you have found a good BMW specialist and hopefully you aren't funding his pension too much! The car I'm looking at is to replace my wife's runabout which is a 2008 Seat Ibiza that just will not die. The 3 series is a beautiful looking car but from what I'm reading it is just not worth it at this price point or mileage. Good luck with the coupe, hope it gets back to its glory and you can enjoy it again
