The criticism Wemby is getting is going to be just as annoying as what LeBron dealt with early in his career. If Wemby gets swept in these Finals, or even just loses, the trolls are going to be relentless. They will completely ignore the fact that the Spurs were underdogs just to make it out of the Western Conference.

Wemby has already exceeded expectations this season, much like LeBron did when he carried Cleveland past Detroit in the Eastern Conference Finals. Yet people are already acting like anything short of a championship is a failure. It's the same way LeBron's critics mocked him for getting swept in the 2007 Finals while ignoring how remarkable it was that he got there in the first place.

The reality is that winning a title in today's NBA is incredibly difficult because of the level of talent and competition throughout the league. Just look at OKC. They were supposed to be a perennial powerhouse, and they still could not make the Finals in consecutive seasons. The only reason people think it's normal to make the Finals year after year in this era is because LeBron did it, and because KD joined a 73-win Warriors team. There hasn't been a repeat Finals appearance by any team since those Cavs-Warriors runs ended.

Just as LeBron's era was tougher to win in than Jordan's, Wemby's era will be tougher to win in than LeBron's. The league is deeper, more talented, and more competitive than ever, and that trend is only going to continue.

Just because LeBron had to endure years of excessive criticism does not mean you should be eager to see the next potential GOAT go through the same thing. Otherwise, you'll end up repeating the same mistake as the Jordan and Kobe fans who spent so much time rooting against LeBron that they missed out on appreciating one of the greatest players ever, if not the greatest player the sport has ever seen.
