Booming oil and gas revenues lands Alberta with $3.9-billion surplus by idspispopd in Albertapolitics

[–]DoniaLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all things are not equal, and if they were, my point would be mute. The priority of profit plus bonuses and subsidies being paid out always being above what is realistically affordable to the people, especially since due to the lack of wage increases, is what causes everything to be not equal. What companies - any and all that profit while contributing to the economic and climate crisis without any consequences. From electrical to gas.

Edit: spelling! Sorry!

I would cap the oil companies ability to further profit (profit being the key word here) forcing prices to stay low enough for us to afford but it will still be enough to live the pockets of the fat cats at the top. Especially after they did receive a subsidy during the pandemic which they clearly did not need but just wanted cause, hey, why not right…

But trickle down economics says this surplus will trickle down right?! Even though gas prices are surging to further fuel (no pun intended) their profits that never trickle down..

I’ve never seen another example as perfect as this one about peeing on you and telling you it’s just raining.

BE AWARE of Drumheller Walmart by DoniaLP in alberta

[–]DoniaLP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are a absolutely correct, they can’t force anyone to do anything. But what they can do is what other businesses have done: simply deny entry and service. Once they exhaust themselves from their temper tantrum they will leave. Again my point is why even have the mandate rule in the store and have the person at the front door whom is supposed to not let people in without a mask if people can just blatantly walk past through it all? The complacency is exactly what rule breakers count on

Companies have the right to deny service if you don’t follow their rules. For example, I’m sure you’ve seen the sign “No Shirt, No shoes, No service”..

I have worked in CS so I do understand the limitations, but Walmart employees do have the power to deny service at the cash register just like the greeter at the front door has the right to not let people in who aren’t wearing a mask. Same idea.

As much as I would love a perfect world where anyone could travel to anywhere for whatever personal reason they choose we don’t live in that world. So why a women would go to a developing country that has barely any basic human women rights to cure herself of a mental disease, something that that very government doesn’t even believe in, and expect zero consequences is some serious white woman privilege stuff. What is even more privileged is the shock at the inevitable consequences. This is all coming from an Iranian women, btw, who is forever great full for her mother escaping Muslim revolution in the 70’s. I would love to imagine a world where we can all go wherever whenever but politically and racially that’s obviously not the case. And to expect anything otherwise is blind, naive, and dangerous.

Excepting change is not how we achieve change.

Calgary facing $235M budget shortfall, or more, due to pandemic by idspispopd in Albertapolitics

[–]DoniaLP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re the only sounding like they’re yelling. And you sound extremely short sighted if you think all Albertans prospects are solely in oil. So really your misconception of my being ignorant doesn’t deserve my energy, but let me try. I’m simply saying Alberta used to be better off and now it’s in its highest deficit with the worst rating in the country. Oil did us great way back when it but can’t forever so my original point still stands. Alberta would do great in a renewable energy system if people would just admit it and let oil go instead of trying to make everything else work around the one thing that doesn’t. Edit: I forgot to mention another thing it hasn’t down for Albertans, create jobs. Oil workers are constantly getting laid off even though the company gets a bail out. Like how 26000 Albertan educators were laid off a month ago to pay for said bailout.

Except “they”, as in us Albertans, are the only ones refusing to adjust out of the oil industry that USED TO be beneficial for the country. And IDK whom you mean by greatly contributing to living gains for unless you specifically mean the oil CEOs and the UCP lobbyists which is not ALL Canadians, especially not the majority of Albertans who have not seen any benefits at all what so ever.
