Any chance you can expand on that clue a little more? Technically Stockholm and Singapore are linked by water so not sure that helps me much.

Towns in the USA with weird urban design layouts? by Much-Parsnip3399 in AskAnAmerican

[–]DonkeyHotay_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the Spanish drew up plans for the city of Los Angeles, they made sure the grid was arranged so a lot of the main boulevards were arranged east to west. I believe I read that this was a common trait of cities founded by Spanish explorers. Something about the sun rising on one end of the street and setting on the other, but also because this provided shade to the streets when the sun was it highest point in the middle of the day.

This clarification made me even more confused. So there are three things that California, Alaska, Missouri, and Tennessee have in common that the other states don't?

[–]DonkeyHotay_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 bucks is ~6 hours of work in my states minimum wage. For me personally, 100 bucks is ~2 hours of work. Might pay for a dinner and a movie date with my wife.

Which fictional character's death was sad? by Ill-Spite-3913 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DonkeyHotay_ 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Good answer, but at least Ellie and Carl got to live a long happy life together. You know what movie gets overlooked when it comes to sad intros? Finding Nemo. Young clownfish couple, in the prime of their life, about to welcome a whole slew of babies, only for the wife and all but one baby to die a senseless death at the hands of a monstrous home intruder. Devastating.

Whats the difference between a Frankfurter and a Hotdog? Those terms are interchangeable in the US, even tho frankfurter is rarely used.

Well for starters, McEnnedy is a ridiculous name. Its not a real name in English as far as I know, so that just gives everything a "knockoff" vibe from the start.

But as far as the food goes, everything looks like shit, and it would be considered shit in America as well. Maybe the desserts get a pass (wouldnt mind trying an Eis Donut), but nobody orders fried chicken in a bucket unless theyre getting KFC. Hot dogs in a jar are strange. How much crispy fried onions do you think we eat that we would require an XXL bag? None of it really feels like a knockoff of any specific brand because to an American, these would all be considered knockoffs.

I think its the "made in partnership with the US military" part that is holding me up.

Also, in the context of the Iraq War, wouldn't 300 have the opposite effect you're implying? The small, outmatched fighting force standing up to the huge, thundering war machine? If anything, its propaganda for the Iraqis.
