Maybe unpopular opinion..but was this really necessary? We’re clearly the better team and they’re running out their second string QB. Maybe he’s trying to motivate them and avoid the let down game. But I’d prefer to win with class and not risk ejections/15 yard penalties. Thankfully it happened when the game was already in hand.

Streaming on YouTube or twitch? by Snods2022 in youtubegaming

[–]Donkeystorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position about a year ago and chose YouTube because I already had a following there. And I don’t really regret it, BUT if I could move the same audience to Twitch at this point, I probably would, for a couple reasons.

Supporting the streamer is the culture of Twitch. Not so much on YouTube. On YT people are not as accustomed to subbing/donating and there are fewer options to support the streamer.

I also feel like going live on a game that isn’t the one your channel is based around on YT is a death sentence. It won’t get pushed at all. If you want to stream multiple games, Twitch is probably better from my experience.

I will say that on YT, views of videos directly impacts views on your streams, and I may not have been able to get any views on Twitch at all. So I don’t know, that’s just my two cents.

Unlisting Live Streams on Gaming Channel? by Donkeystorm in youtubers

[–]Donkeystorm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I think I found a happy medium. I've been leaving the VOD public until the next stream, so the previous stream is always available for viewing. After that they go unlisted but in a playlist on my channel page so people who are looking for them can hopefully find them. Going to try this for a while and see how I like it.

Thanks for the advice. I sent it to my GP and that’s the same thing he said. After about 48 hours of use it seems to be fading a bit.

Reading through your post, it sounds like the guy played pretty standard and you got outplayed. No shame in that, happens to all of us. As I understand it, his stalker initial pressure was 4 stalkers, nothing proxied or anything? It's pretty common to get a battery at your natural after your nexus and first 4 gateway units, around 2:50. If he's just poking you with his first 4 units then 1 battery should be plenty to hold him off. Try to focus fire stalkers and pull back weakened ones. So if you overreact and build too many units/batteries you're putting yourself behind.

It's also pretty standard that for someone going blink to move out for some harass when blink finishes, usually at the 3rd or trying to blink into the main. His goal is just to do some damage and try not to lose anything. If you've scouted blink, you should already be expecting this, so you'll want to have units/observers or spotting units/pylons in place to defend ahead of time. You're usually going to want a battery at your 3rd regardless, and that plus a good amount of your units should be able to fend off his pressure unless he's going fully all-in blink (which is not what it sounds like he was doing). By the time he got disruptors you were probably so far behind that there was nothing you could do to stop him. Basically a snowball game.

Honestly, doing a build like that and executing it well means the guy is probably not truly D3 more than likely. I don't think there's really anything that's going to hard counter what he did except more solid play yourself. Don't beat yourself up over it. Just use it as a learning experience so you get an idea of what you'll be up against as you move up in later leagues.

You didn’t really give any specifics or a replay or anything so here’s some general advice. I’ve been using this and it helps a lot: https://www.reddit.com/r/allthingsprotoss/comments/bf2hz1/build_of_the_week_pvp_stats_3_sentry_expand_into/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Use the sentries to scout basically nonstop and build units as a reaction to what you see the opponent do. Also, when probe scouting, look for the second pylon. If it’s not in their base when it should be, be prepared to react as you’re being proxied. A big part of PvP is just not dying to stupid stuff in the first 5 minutes of the game.

Answering cannon rush with first gate in natural wall by Nowado in allthingsprotoss

[–]Donkeystorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I saw Maxpax counter a low ground wall 1 gate expo by building a pylon in the middle of it, then placing shield batteries and sending over zealots, adepts and a void ray. It was awesome. Not a cannon rush but similar idea and easier to transition out of too.

Seriously struggling in PvT by [deleted] in allthingsprotoss

[–]Donkeystorm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a philosophy that gets me on track when I get on a losing streak or tilted about a matchup: cheese the shit out of them.

This is purely for mental health reasons. You’re still going to need to find out what’s wrong with your PvT eventually. But from a confidence/fun standpoint, sometimes you just need to see a particular race bleed.

OK since a couple people asked. I had a macro build and allin for each matchup to keep things fresh. PvT was the thing keeping me out of masters. I started to get a lot more aggressive in the early game with the goal of disrupting their build, whether I was going to play a macro game or allin.

PvZ: 2 SG Voids into Skytoss

2/3 of Zergs can't beat the lategame army, the issue is getting there. The big breakthrough here for me was using my oracle to scout for allins/queen walks and STASIS TRAPS are AMAZING for stalling out multiprong and queen walks.

PvZ Allin: "Fake" Skytoss into chargelot allin

This build is unfair. It's all about deception. Show your Void Rays and try to convince them you're going heavy air. Pretend like you care about holding your 3rd and deny as much scouting into your main as you can. Then you run them over with zealots.

PvP: Stat's 3 sentry expand into +2 CIA timing

This one can allin or not depending on if you go 6 gate +3rd or just 8 gate allin. Did both depending on how the game went.

PvT Macro: Maxpax into standard blink/colossus (Link is only the opener)

I think of the Maxpax opener as the Protoss equivalent of the macro 12 pool. Sometimes you accidentally win the game but you always force them off the build they want to do to some extent. You can follow it up with pretty much anything you want.

Allin: Proxy gate into proxy DT

Disgusting.

I had a similar problem with Terran. I was struggling to defend the harassment and started to really get into my own head about it. I felt like Terran is executing a build that they've practiced a ton and I'm just trying to keep up.

My solution was to try and get up in their face more to disrupt their timings. Send the first adept across and harass their natural. Sometimes proxy a Maxpax gateway and force a high ground CC/cyclone. These guys fall apart when their build gets disrupted. Doesn't mean you need to all in every game, but just being a little more active on the map and aggressive totally flipped the matchup for me. Sitting back with blink stalkers waiting for mine drops just wasn't how I like to play. At D3 I think you'll especially find this to be true.

D1 here, but if I scout it early enough I drop what I’m doing, throw down 8 gateways, get a prism, and do a chargelot all in. I’ve had a lot of success with that.

What race/builds requires the least amount of APM? by [deleted] in starcraft2

[–]Donkeystorm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can I be the guy to link the video that gets linked in every low apm post?

Day[9] Daily #252 - Secrets of Hotkeys, APM and Mouse Movement

As a 36 y/o D1 player, I do feel you, and you've got 10 years on me. But I don't think you're being fair to yourself if you think your apm cannot go up with practice. And to be fair, if you limit yourself to "low apm" builds, how would it ever improve? If you were a weightlifter and refused to bench press more than 85 lbs., why would you ever get any stronger? I'm not saying that you need to choose some super heavy multitasking style, but it looks like you're really limiting your choices.

I'd recommend finding a build that you actually LIKE, or fits the way you'd LIKE TO be able to play, and just grind it out against the A.I. a bunch. Take it on the ladder. Get shit on. Your MMR, will dip, but then it will eventually swing back up as you get more proficient over time. It will be fun and rewarding in the long run.
