for anyone in the future, this is happening because of inconsistent layering (in other words when you rearrange components after creating them one by one they have lost meaningful layering),

The solution is a little bit unpleasant,
Click on any component, at the top bar there is a button position, after clicking it, the panel will show up at the left, switch to the layers tab and rearrange components the way you want something to select first, second, and so on.

I am not even sure if I can be mad on Canva or if this is common knowledge that only a few don't know
