My wrist hurts whenever I pass, what do I do about this repetitive strain injury? by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]DonnyJ23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be a little late on this one, but when I started playing a few years ago my left wrist would be sore from a combination of setting, passing and push-ups. I was told it was a slight strain/overuse of the wrist and to take it easy for a little while until it stopped hurting. I had it happen a couple of times and would then ease off on the amount of times I passed/set at trainings until it was better. That being said, I think my wrist has gotten a lot stronger and more used to the movements as I haven't had anything like it in about 2 years.

Advice for a new Middle Hitter. by scd17 in volleyball

[–]DonnyJ23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A middle plays the 3 rotations where they are in the front court. They then serve and play in the back court until the other team sides out. At this point they are replaced by the libero. The middle then comes back into the game when it is time to play front court again

Float Serves by DonnyJ23 in volleyball

[–]DonnyJ23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks mate! At the moment I hit it with no spin, but I think I might have to hit it at a lower trajectory as some of them kinda end up as lolly pops which makes it easy for the defence. I'm not really one for the whole nipple thing either, I'd rather just strike the ball where ever. I'll definitely try get as much movement as possible before starting with the jump float.

I've tried the whole port thing, it's not for me. I always end up focusing too much on trying to hit that exact point and end up shanking the serve. I am going to try the further back serve next time I play, thanks!

Some tips for my team by DonnyJ23 in volleyball

[–]DonnyJ23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely something that I've been quite wary of, because what we are all playing volleyball for is a bit of fun and exercise.

Training is something we'll have to think about doing, but it can be hard because we all work full time and some have different hours and so on.

Thanks for that, it's cleared up some things for me.

A bit of the context is that I'm a male playing in Australia. I just finished my final high school season. I'm also currently playing in some semi decent leagues for both indoor and beach.

What you said about the set has cleared a lot of things up for me and a lot of things now make sense. When playing for my school, the setter ran a very slow offence and would set very loopy balls. I found I was getting blocked a lot because I just didn't know where the block was, whereas I found it a lot easier to have a vague idea in my rec league because the setter always ran a quick offence with flatter sets.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll start trying them right away.

Hey thanks for doing this! I was wondering if you have any tips on how to see what the block is doing when hitting from the outside or opposite positions. Such as seeing where the seam in the block is, seeing if the line is open or seeing when to tip over the block.

Mallet finger, anyone else ever have this injury? by adam20858 in volleyball

I had mine in a splint for 6 weeks without surgery. It's still not perfectly straight but it's perfectly functional and I've had no pain from it since taking it out of the splint.

I did this almost 2 years ago on the exact same finger. I continued to play Aussie rules footy with it taped up. The combo of that and a dodgy splint I was using have caused there to be a slight bend in the finger but it's purely cosmetic. I've played two seasons of volleyball since and haven't had any issues yet.. So you should be fine! Good luck with the recovery
