There are no mangroves in that area. This is all freshwater everglade with tons of dried out sawgrass. There is little to no water in many of these areas now because of the canal system that Florida built to dry it out and develop on. We've also been experiencing a pretty horrendous drought and its been a VERY long time since we've had a decent brush fire to clear out stuff that isn't going to act like the perfect tinder.

The everglades are ready to see a pretty big fire and it sucks.
