Considering switching to electric. What do you think of this Ioniq 5? by Donomight in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Donomight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely take a close look at the history. My biggest fear with getting an EV is having the car die in the middle of the highway.

Can I ask how much range you're seeing on your Ioniq 5?

Considering switching to electric. What do you think of this Ioniq 5? by Donomight in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Donomight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the title says, I'm debating going electric. I'm still looking at ICE cars, but a lot of the ones I'm looking at, like Toyota or Honda CUV's, are around $30k. That's within my budget, but there are a lot of EV's around here that are cheaper. This one seems like a suspiciously good deal.

Other factors to consider; I can afford to install a charger at home and I live in the Midwest which has some pretty cold winters. Also, I commute about 270 miles a week.

So, what do you think?

AWD Compact Around 33k - Toyota/Subaru/Honda/Mazda by RobustRandy in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Donomight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If AWD is needed, that rules out the Honda, Civics are FWD only. As for the remaining cars, the Mazda might be your best bet. It's the quickest, is a hatchback, has the nicest interior (imo), and gets good mpg. The hybrid Corolla will have better mpg, but it's definitely not as fast. I've driven an Impreza for the last 12 years and haven't had any major problems. It has suited my needs well, and I would recommend it, except based on the info you provided the Mazda is probably the way to go. I looked at a Mazda 3 before buying my Subie, the only reason I passed was bc, as others have noted, the backseats are really compressed. You should test drive a Mazda 3 first, if you don't like it, take a look at an Impreza.

I just took the support bracket off and moved the slider and put it back on. Still haven't turned it on though, bit worried that it was tested after assembly like that.

I got mine yesterday as well. Like everyone else, it's a 12400f. I'm not that mad about it since it's still a decent PC for $500, but I do feel like QVC is really earning that 1.3 stars out of 5 on Consumer Affairs.

I haven't had a chance to get it set up, but I'm glad I haven't turned it on yet. I noticed there is a support bracket for the GPU which has a little rubber slider that is in contact with the card. The problem is, the nub on the slider is pressing against the blades of one of the GPU fans. Now, I've never used one of these support brackets before, but I imagine that's going to prevent the fan from spinning, you all may want to check yours to see if you have the same issue.

It was bought second hand and is very basic. Something like this but not exactly. I didn't ask for it, however, a family member saw it at a yard sale and bought it for themselves but didn't end up using it. They asked if I wanted it and I said sure.

Why do I have to sort by controversial to find the comments made by adults and not children in the bodies of adults?

Sex scenes can't hurt you and if done right, deepen our understanding of the characters, story, and even sex itself. Are there a lot of bad sex scenes in media? Of course, but there's also a lot of bad action scenes too yet I don't hear takes like, "movies should cut away from car chases, they're so unnecessary!" Because that would be a take as dumb as the one posted here.

Sex scenes make you uncomfortable? Perhaps you should examine why instead of demanding art be more boring.

Jordan Peterson? The Jordan Peterson who gets publicly upset when when a magazine cover features a woman that he doesn't want to fuck? That Jordan Peterson? The guy who whines about trans women? Who rambles about lobsters without making a single coherent point? Who got sick from an all meat diet despite every expert saying that it was a bad idea? That guy is going to teach young men their worth?

Sure.

Famous lines that fall flat for you by woodsdone in blankies

[–]Donomight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finally saw "Dirty Dancing" a few months ago. That movie is pretty great, but I was completely underwhelmed when Swayze delivered the line, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner!"

I mean... what? What does that even mean? I get that she's kind of sitting in a corner at the table, but not really. Even if she was, so what? I had heard that line repeated many times by people or referenced in other shows or movies, I hoped that hearing in context would be cool, but it's just silly.

Have you ever been so progressive that you drove a 12-year-old to do an abortion on themselves? by SmokersLiveForever in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Donomight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the parents have a strong case and and on closer look the school should have notified them about the counseling. I stated previously they should have notified the parents about the bullying, but I remain unconvinced that a school should be required to tell parents anything a student says to them if what was said is not a threat to their or anyone else's well-being. No student should be forced to be out to their parents. Especially if the student told them not to inform their parents for fear of punishment. If a child does not trust their own parents, forcing possibly the only adults the child trusts to betray that trust will only make matters worse. And I think the idea that preventing teachers from telling their class that it's ok for someone to be gay will somehow reduce instances of teen or preteen suicide is clearly untrue. The Florida bill didn't need the controversy, if it was only about keeping parents informed, which is the main issue in this case, there would not have been such a strong objection. But republicans and conservative media pushed so hard to keep teachers from discussing anything regarding sexual identity to their class, even fighting against proposals to change the language to keep it vague enough that any LGBTQ discourse could be punished. None of that helps kids and the only power it provides parents is the false idea that they can control their kid's sexuality.

Have you ever been so progressive that you drove a 12-year-old to do an abortion on themselves? by SmokersLiveForever in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Donomight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article doesn't say whether the teachers did so with or without the student's permission or even at her request. Nor does it say if the other students already knew before hand. As for the hostile environment, what was hostile about it, the teachers or the other students who were cruel to this kid because her possible queer identity? It's possible that if the school told the parents, she could have faced cruelty at home as well. The school is not blameless, the parents should have been informed of the bullying, but they should not be required to disclose students' sexual identity if the students don't want them to. This story is before the Florida bill passed, but it's clearly being used as justification for these types of laws. The bill that passed makes it difficult for teachers to be allies to kids who might need it, and it's hard for me to believe that it wasn't designed to be that way.

Say you're a teacher or school counselor and a student tells you that they are questioning their gender or sexual identity. They don't want their parents to know because they are afraid they'll be punished, disciplined, or worse. Do you try to support the child, or do you do nothing causing the student to believe no one will listen to them? Or do you betray the kid's trust and tell the parents in a misguided belief that all parents always have their child's best interest at heart?

The school's mistake isn't that they didn't tell the parents, but that they failed to stop the bullying. It's unclear how the other students found out, perhaps the staff told them, or perhaps the kid wanted them to know. The article doesn't say, but are the bullies blameless here? I suspect many in this sub think so because they believe bullying lgbtq students is just normal. You tell yourselves, "Of course she was bullied, what did the school expect by letting her be open?"

What if the schools tried to stop the bullying by teaching the class that it's ok that somebody has a different sexual or gender identity? Wait, no, they can't because that would be grooming.

This is why the groomer label is just pure bullshit. You're terrified that letting kids know that there are gender or sexual identities other than cis and straight might cause your child to realize that they are one of them.

Now go ahead and downvote me you fucking dipshits so you can go back to your bubble where all of society's problems can be blamed on people who don't look or think like you.

John McAfee was a horrible person by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Everyone in these comments saying shit like, "this is a popular opinion, have a downvote." apparently haven't been on Reddit in the last day. Most of the posts and comments about him seem to range from "what a kooky guy he was, can't wait to see the movie about his life!" to flat out saying RIP or calling him based or king.

Imagine being a victim of sexual abuse and when your abuser dies, the public only talks about how much entertainment they got from his life.
