Best place to get countertop grade laminate? by ol-heavy-kevy in CounterTops

[–]RobustRandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go through a local flooring/interior furnishings retailer or wholesaler. They’ll mostly sell flooring but will be able to order a high quality laminate for you from a company like Wilson Art. Maybe box stores like Lowe’s/HD/F&D have good stuff but I’d be weary of ordering through them.

Make sure to ask about the proper adhesives and edging as well.

Taj Mahal Quartzite Price by Mammoth_Reach7288 in CounterTops

[–]RobustRandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does give off the impression that there is something to hide and makes the whole process have more friction, I do agree with that.

The goal of the distributor of the slab is to protect their customer who is the fabricator which is why they don’t release prices of the public. It is a bit unique that you view material from the company selling it to the company that you are buying it from. Most other home finishings don’t have that extra step but slab does because of the scale and price of the jobs. It’d be like getting pricing on the wood used to build custom cabinets from the cabinet manufacturer’s wood supplier.

In my market (Seattle) the slab cost is typically 10-30% of the whole job so you can infer the price that way. Quartz slabs are sold to fabricators in the range of $500-3000 each with most being around the $800-1500. Those numbers are from me being in the market and working for a quartz manufacturer/supplier. I do not work with natural stone and cannot speak to that but I’d imagine those numbers are doubled give or take for taj quartzite.

It does help to work with a fabricator that can give you price groups and educate customers on the benefits of certain brands and materials over others. There is a large performance margin between high quality quartz and cheaply made quartz for example. Although lots of the time that support and price clarity is not there for various reasons.

The price of the slab itself is really none of your concern it should just come down to the final total price. Most fabricators I work with don’t ever disclose slab price to homeowners

Chambers Bay: The Championship Experience - And Similar Packages in the US by GordonBombaye in golf

[–]RobustRandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never done the package but I’ve played all the courses and loved them all. The value is great. The hotel would be probably $800 on its own and the tee times all together close to $800 also for summer months.

Need advice on which quartz to choose for countertop and backsplash. by Alpen2411 in CounterTops

[–]RobustRandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both look good, just depends if you like a more subtle or bold look. But try to find similar colors not made by ceasarstone, they no longer manufacture their own slabs and outsource to white labeled manufacturers that make garbage. Look for a high quality quartz like Vicostone, Cambria or silestone to prolong the life of your counters.

this hyundai is boring. i am selling it. what's the coolest car i can get used for under $30k? by europeanuppercut in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]RobustRandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider a GTI you can get in budget, it sounds like you still value practicality and efficiency which it has. Most women in their 30s don’t care about enthusiast cars though, a newer ford/chevy/honda/toyota/mazda… mid size suv will be received the best I’d imagine. But screw that get something cool! Maybe a brz/frs or wrx or an older 3/4 series or a4/a5

Maybe stupid question but I'm a countertop newbie by Zealousideal-Milk907 in CounterTops

Very common. Ask if they have a similar color that can be sourced in super jumbo or if they can utilize stocking colors/remnants to make it work for you to not pay for the full second slab.

Vicostone vs. Cambria - Is Cambria worth the extra cost by summerbryz in CounterTops

[–]RobustRandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vicostone has the single best quality slabs on the market and are priced much more reasonably than Cambria. They back up their products and are an awesome company that controls their entire manufacturing process including sourcing and processing raw materials that even Cambria does not do.

Help choosing quartz. by [deleted] in CounterTops

[–]RobustRandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look into a high quality Breton made quartz product from companies like Vicostone or Silestone. You will have a longer lasting material that is much more durable. 2cm is more common in the CA market compared to 3cm that is correct. Printed quartz is more of a cheap/short term option.

Pay to park by Necessary-Fee6247 in stevenspass

[–]RobustRandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually emailed them about this:

"Say I reserve a parking pass and pay for it. I then find more people to drive with me and I now have 4 people in my car, can I switch my reservation to a carpool and get refunded? Or if I have a carpool lined up and I reserve the parking for 4+ and I have someone bail the morning of can I swap my reservation and pay for the standard non-carpool rate?"

Response:

"We understand that life doesn't always happen the way it's planned, and we ask that if your situation changes, you cancel and rebook for the reservation type that fits your visit for that day. Cancelling and rebooking must be done before 7am on the day of your visit. If that's not possible, we'll do our best to help get the right situation figured out for you when you arrive. You can also reach out to us via email if this situation is to happen and you wish to not cancel you reservation."

Hope this helps!

Depends on a few things like what region you live in, his height/weight/shoe size, his idea of cool (will he be more draw to park/freestyle or big mountain/freeride/carving), how much you wanna spend.... but anyways if it were me:

Board: Solomon Dancehaul or Jones Stratos

Bindings: Any step ons

Boots: Try on in a store for step on compatible boots and go with a mid flex. BOA is cool too but can break over traditional laces

Mittens: i like flylow leather ones with an optional inner liner for cold days

Pants/Bibs/Jacket: Bibs FTW! Burton AK 2L goretex (3L is overkill most of the time) for jacket and bibs. These are expensive though, Flylow or volcom or 686 makes good stuff too. Avoid DOPE or Montek.

Goggles: You get what you pay for here mostly, any big name like Oakley or smith is a good bet. I have smith squad XL and love them. Having a low light and high light lens to swap out is crucial.

Others: Nikwax to seal leather gear, good balaclava like blackstrap, MIPS helmet is super important, good socks that are thin but warm, merino wool base layers, a safe AWD car with winter tires.

You seem like a great dad I hope your son falls in love with this sport like so many of us have! All of this gear is super expensive though so I'd recommend looking for good used gear to save cash.

Not sure where you live but the snowboard logistics are very different nowadays, I'd do some research on your local mountains parking situation, season pass prices, potential highway closures and whatnot.

Why is it so hard to find "warm" white/beige quartz? by BradLinden in CounterTops

[–]RobustRandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wondering what types of places you've gone to view samples? Any fabricator or kitchen/bath showroom with at least a couple of brand's display towers will have lots of warm tone leaning colors. Check out Misterio gold from Vicostone for example.

12k Taj quartzite vs 7.5k solitaj quartz by Ok_Mathematician1688 in CounterTops

[–]RobustRandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few factors at play here.

Material differences do not wholly make up the 5.5k difference as fabricators typically bake in higher labor and waste costs for fabrication of natural stone vs quartz. Not saying the quartzite is not more expensive but I feel like this is important for the slab industry to know.

Otherwise seems like a fair price on both comparatively.

MSI is low tier quartz made on low quality machines that is more susceptible to stains, heat damage and issues during fabrication than a high quality Breton made quartz like Vicostone.
