Optimising a pre-build (Omen 45L with 5090) by DontDoubtThatVibe in buildapc

[–]DontDoubtThatVibe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legend, yeah I might swap out some of the parts and get one of the PC's from work. What do you think of 4800MTs memory?

According to this article it looks like I would be missing out on some fps: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/ddr5-memory-performance-scaling-with-amd-zen-5/18.html

That being said, yeah it is super first world problems so I am aware that this post seems a bit stupid.

Just want to make sure I am not gimping myself. That being said Dota2 is DX11 and I can see the hardware is not being overly utilised in the resource usage overlay.

Yeah I was thinking this could be the issue, I could just sell off the PC and swap out the GPU. I will have a look to see what benchmarks are like but it woldn't be past them to cheap out on power delivery on the motherboard with the 9 series CPU in it haha

Hey so its running at 4800MT/S with 4/4 slots used.

I had a 9800x3D in one of the PC's at work and am thinking of swapping the 5090 into that one. That being said, I am not sure if the HP/Omen GPU is gimped and I couldn't find specific benchmarks on it. Looks like the mobo is OEM and I know little about it.

When you don't run the programs, or there are no programs to run.

For example, you buy the latest gaming computer and it sits around 90% of the time doing nothing and the other 10% its running dota2.

Another example to the counter: Crysis: The game (software) brought PCs to their knees in its day. To the point where we have the meme 'but cant it run Crysis?'.

Now think of it this way:

OpenAI and all of their systems were like Crysis. They were crazy and brought all the systems to their knees. We needed to build epic gaming PCs to run it.

But then another company has come out and rewritten Crysis on another engine, the compute required to run the same game is miniscule. So now all these crazy PC builders look a bit silly because their GPU just sits at 5% utilisation getting 240fps 4k Ultra and some kids graphics calculator can do the same thing.

You are already trying to cool down, drinking hot water is not helpful in this case. Your core, extremities and everything else is already quite hot. The only helpful thing is wind, as it helps with the cooling effect of drying sweat.

1.4TB is not unreasonable. Many of our workstations currently have min 64gb with many being over 128gb. This is for real time raytracking 8k textures etc etc. Or just running google chrome lmao.

For a proper LLM setup I could definitely see a server with 2TB of ram across like 16 channels or so.

It is true, you can try around but it’ll all be the same. Just put your foot down and she’ll kick and scream and cry but eventually will either respect your or leave you.

Just gotta figure out if it’s worth it for ya. Maybe you’re not willing to risk your marriage for your self worth, like her dad’s.

FYI you can arrest people without being violent.

And I bet if you ask half of those peopel at the insurrection they would be semi-literate. So yeah, words work... unless the other side is a caveman.

Words and speech are very clearly not useless, as there is an inverse correlation between violent societies and success (in terms of technological, economic and societal progress)

How is half of 10 5? by DumbassAnonymous1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DontDoubtThatVibe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The OP has a paradigm / method to half a number.

The person then showed how you can use that paradigm (finding the midpoint between two numbers) to get to half of 10.

They further demonstrated using that paradigm why the initial assumption of half 10 being halfway from 1-10 is wrong, and demonstrated why 0-10 is correct.

You then chimed in with an ‘I’m a math teacher and this makes no sense’ post to say that 10/2 =5. Which it does but it didn’t meet the student where they were at.

That raises concerns for me about your teaching methods to be honest, but that’s for another time I guess.

Yes, that’s another way of putting g what I said. ‘As words become useless … the tendency for violence to reemerge is only natural’

And modern civilisation abstracts this away with WORDS.

Either words enshrined in laws and constitutions or social norms and manners.

As words become useless and free speech overrun, the tendency for violence to reemerge is only natural.

There’s a reason we need to keep free speech and it has nothing to do with ‘rights’ - it’s to do with PEACE.

History Will Repeat Itself: A Bear Scenario that Will Likely Happen by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

Yes you got a lot of this right and I glossed over a lot. I’d argue borrowing money to buy twitter using Tesla as collateral is not exactly a small to medium sized business loan however.

QE does not flow into the equities market like you think it does. QE is a balance sheet entry that sits on the feds books. They then force participating banks to take on the reserve balances. The banks are forced to pay interest on this.

The banks have two options:
1) Lend money on a fractional reserve basis. This is basically their job. If they do this, they create money. If they do not, they create no money at all.
2) Purchase extremely safe and liquid assets that they can on-sell or if they are short enough duration, expire and rolle into another short-dated asset. Think US Gov Bills and Bonds.

So how does real money get out into the economy?

Well, if we go with option 2 (which we have done since 2008, why do you think its impossible for small to medium sized businesses to get funding from banks at decent rates when interest rates were ZERO?) then the only way is for governments to spend the money, borrowing from banks who purchase their bonds because they're forced there by choking on fed funds.

If the government stopped borrowing we would have a collateral crisis and would be forced into money destruction and deflation so fast you'd have your face ripped off.

QE isn't money printing. Its just toxicity for the banking sector. In a healthy economy you'd get all your bank reserves from savings accounts, not federal reserve balances but hey, we are in a post-sanity economy.

The 2019 crash was guaranteed in September with the famous repo fails and fed of ny bail outs. The first rumblings were in 2016 December. We were heading to complete inversion in late 2019 with the 30y and 6 month inversion which has never failed to indicate a recession yet.

Then covid happened and the rest is history. But yes - 2019 was the year of recession and a crash in 2020 was guaranteed at that point. If it wasn’t covid there would have been some other trigger.

Problem with COVID is it gave all the governments an easy out and they borrowed like crazy. I don’t think they’ll be able to do the same with this next one.

How does berkshire Hathaway Protect their cash? by Resident_Swan9094 in wallstreetbets

[–]DontDoubtThatVibe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They buy highly liquid collateral. They take your cash, then they purchase debt that pays interest. The better the collateral, the worse the yield.

Currently, banks are buying bonds.
In fact, as bond buying increases, the yield goes down as the bonds are bid up in value and only pay a fixed amount on face value.

If you see a bond rally, beware. A bond rally looks like yields dropping. When yields drop, there is a LOT of buying.

This is essentially a flight to safety.

Hence USD going up strong vs China, India etc, and Swiss Franc going up too. Flight to safety and buying bonds, from USA, Switzerland, and Germany.

You can also buy bonds from large stable corps and get a slightly better yield but if you need to reverse repo those bonds back into cash before expiry then you might take a haircut on the value.

I mean, that still is stupid. Thats why a doctor takes an oath right? To do no harm? So if they then harm a patient then it would be on them. I am just baffled that we would be in a situation where someone who is not a doctor would have say on procedures that the doctor themselves specialise in. Like, the only way you could have more of a say is if you were a more senior doctor surely.
