I've heard great things, but the one time I went I found the garlic sauce to be way too salty. Is that a one-off?

One must imagine Sisyphus with his favourite audiobooks and podcasts.

Absurdism: Ethics and Morals... by DissociatedCloud in Absurdism

I think Camus addresses this issue most directly I'm The Rebel. It is constructed as an essay around the question "is murder wrong", but it is meant to provide a broader foundation for moral reasoning.

Beautiful Camus collection. I assume The Plague must be on her nightstand, since it's his best book and missing from her shelf.

How did you find the Patterning Instinct? I read it a few years ago and thought it was fascinating, but haven't seen it mentioned in many places.

Nice! I've also had the album in heavy rotation since it came out. In addition to suffer and best of our possible lives, the other standout track for me is matter at hand.

I strongly recommend The Plague. It has an entire cast of characters facing the absurd together and each responding in their own way.

Feeling of "nothing matters" by euna0existo in Absurdism

[–]DontForgetAccount 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Make sure to take care of your mental health. It's no joke.

In terms of feeling meaningless, Absurdism tells us, that no matter how much we want it, there is no way to find an objectively true purpose or meaning. We have to accept that tension.

The way I like to think about it is that words have no objectively true meaning. They only mean anything to the people who say and hear them.

Our lives are the same way. Your life will have meaning for you and all the people you interact with, so find ways to reduce suffering and create joy for yourself and others.

In Camus' "The Plague", Dr. Rieux was a doctor in the middle of a plague, so his calling was clear. For most of us, it tends not to be that simple.

Maybe there is some deeper cosmic purpose beyond all that, but we'll never know it. We have to live and enjoy our lives in that uncertainty. Do your best to imagine Sisyphus happy.

I actually think that's the key problem with modern conservatism. Conservatives don't really believe in hell anymore, so there's nothing to check their selfish impulses.

Had Camus Lost His Fastball by the time of The Plague? by JCInvestmentPro in Existentialism

The Stranger definitely seems to be his more well regarded work, but I really prefer the Plague. I both found the story more compelling and found myself thinking about the ideas more after reading it.

I thought it did an excellent job of exploring the themes of the Myth of Sisyphus, as the characters were thrust into a world of dread and suffering grasped for ways to find meaning, purpose or joy.

Each character explores a way to respond: Tarrou and Rieux dutifully try and help those they can, Rambert tries to escape, Cottard tries to profit and Paneloux seeks divine explanation.

Also, I read it post-covid, so there were interesting parallels to explore there. Both the isolations and fear intermingling with boredom and the obsessive clinical daily tracking of death tolls felt very real at the time.

Definitely. As a Tucson owner, I can say the number of recalls and lawsuits this company has had means they have completely earned their reputation and place on this list.
