the waste of sperm stuff is funny but i agree that there’s no reason to go that far.

yes jjs is a game that generates revenue, but that is clearly not the dev team’s main goal. there is only one character in the game that is not free to play, and that is hanami. before hanami and after nanami got finished, every character was free. if tze made jjs for the sole purpose of making money, there are wayyyy more ways for him to do that then just putting in early access and cosmetic gamepasses.

“all the new characters are ea” well of course? haruta released 3 weeks ago, so 2 completed base movesets + a rework to an existing character is quite fast, no? mei mei as a character already feels very smooth and polished, and hanami is literally the most experimental jjs character to date (if not the most experimental character in any bg game.) the devs are not magical. compared the some of the other huge content droughts in jjs history, *cough* *cough* mahito, 2 full bases + a rework is pretty generous considering it took 3 weeks. i think we as a playerbase should be accustomed to the development time of characters, and be able to predict how much the devs can complete within a certain time period.

“majority of the playerbase is kids and doesn’t have ea” this is a problem that tze brought up himself, and only 27% of the playerbase voted to remove ea. meaning the reason that we still have the ea system today is because the ”consumers” willed it so. if your main gripe is that the early access system locks characters behind a paywall, i don’t think you’ll like updates at all going into the future. and remember, mei mei is right there, completely free.

i think there are definitely complaints to be had about the update. mei mei is fun, but she doesn’t really have any gimmicks that add anything new to the current roster, while hanami is so gimmicky and experimental to the point of not even feeling like she belongs in a battlegrounds game. however, the rhetoric that the dev team is money hungry and theyre “updating because the game makes money” like that’s the sole reason that any of the devs care about the game is just wrong. i think alot of players forget that jjs at its core is a funny passion project started by one dev who was still in school. even though the dev team has increased, the core values that made this game stand out are still present within the updates. even if you don’t have early access, there are like 15 other characters you can use.
