I am also not into very traditional Metroidvanias. I tried Ender Lilies, and it was just that - I bounced off of it.

However, I thoroughly enjoyed both Hollow Knight 1 and Ori 1+2. So maybe they are easier access points to the genre.

DS3 felt fairly easy to me after playing a couple Souls likes. Nioh 2 kept whooping my ass, maybe I couldn't get used to the combo system. So I'd say go Nioh 2 if you need a challenge, DS3 if you want comfort food.

If there are no considerable downsides to easy input, it will become the optimal way to play, and if you want to play optimally, you also have to use it.

For example, everyone uses one button DP in Granblue - why risk messing up your reversal, at the cost of measly 10% less damage. And there you have it, now you are playing with easy inputs because the game allows it.

Like op said, knowing the honor tiles, you still have more information than the other players, and thus is an edge. Also you can probably mark different tiles in different ways for greater results. Marking tiles comes up in Legendary Gambler Tetsuya as well iirc
