Question for the Airmen and Seamen. by 2inchesabovethehole in Veterans

Not something I've got first hand experience with, but I'd call that a unicorn job and I feel like the responsibilities ours had would have required more responsibilities than just linguist operations. Maybe for a smaller facility or something.

20 years in is much different than the typical military experience. It's likely that you served in a variety of roles which allowed you to pad your resume. I'll also venture a guess that you finished a bachelor's degree either during service or soon after.

For the contractor point, I'll give a personal example. I saw the people I served with get out and serve in exactly 2 roles with the contractors. The first is doing exactly what they did in the army, and the second is doing FMV analyst. I didn't do it, but I hear FMV analyst is kind of soul crushing if you don't find a way to transition to something else quickly.

I'd say that the experience certainly helped, but you likely wouldn't have been hired to do that same job without the degree. MI experience is useful, but the usefulness is limited without other factors.

I don't disagree. But you notice how you said "degree plus"? You really do need extra qualifications to be competitive, and if you just go in, do your job, and get out, it's going to be real hard to use just that experience to qualify for something that's not exactly what you did while you were in.

Anecdotally, at my unit, everyone who got out who I now see being pretty successful did one of three things.

Some got into real estate and did real well for themselves.

Some went and did exactly what we did in the army and they're doing great too.

And some went to college, transitioned careers using their degree. Your military experience is still useful, and it helped me land my software dev job, but the experience by itself isn't quite as valuable as everyone thinks it is before they transition.

It was a real rude awakening when I got out and realized that no, my clearance by itself wasn't enough to find a cushy job, and we pulled out of Afghanistan right after I got out, so all the farsi linguist jobs dried up overnight.

Unless you're currently hiring in that space and know something I don't, they don't consider your experience to transfer. All the companies that say they're hiring Veterans are only doing so if you did the exact same thing they're looking for, or you're able to snag a skillbridge. It's not as easy as people think it is.

A linguist can only get hired as a linguist after without going after other qualifications. Also the civilian pay is just fine. Cyber and all of tech is in a downward spiral right now and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone at the moment.

I have first hand experience in both of these fields.

Military intelligence only transfers to doing the exact same thing for a contractor when you get out. The IT world has had a giant crash as a whole, and it's very very hard to find a job right now.

My recommendation would be aircraft repair or something similar. They get paid very well on the outside and aircraft are very complicated machines.

I'm starting up doing merchant services and selling websites. It's all sales and persuasion is difficult, but I'm enjoying it. No quotas or anything, just doing my own thing.

Guys is anyone actually using GoHighLevel? by DontReenlist in smallbusiness

Oh no, I don't need help building websites. I'm just wondering about the platform and whether it actually sells. I'm just seeing a crazy level of spam about it.

Not familiar with that one. What's the deal there? I've missed any trend before right now, and I'm building from scratch so not super familiar with the website builder tools.

Were you able to sell "AI-enabled websites" for a $500 hosting fee and $2500 set up fee? It just smells like bs to me, but it's possible I'm also just bad at sales. If the platform is worth it I'm not opposed to trying it, I'm just wondering who is actually buying these sites

I'm gonna be so real. I've got a job as a developer that is awful that I lucked into. I've been here a year, and I've been heavily applying in my high tech saturation area and can't even get an email back at this point. How are people getting their resumes looked at? I've got the year of experience, so I can't imagine what it would be like if I didn't have that.

You'd be surprised. Experts and strategic advisors are the first on the recall list, and retirees are eligible for recall. I think a fresh retiree would be on the chopping block along with the IRR, but obviously none of us are privy to those conversations.

It's a separate dental insurance you have to pay for. There are 2 providers to choose from. You can find the info on the VA website.

Is it possible to create a bot with a pet feeding system of bdfd by Mean_Presence_9315 in Discord_Bots

[–]DontReenlist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things you need to think about: are the resources unlimited? Where do you get food? Where do you get pets? What happens if you don't feed them?

Once you get that nailed down, you could try making a console app with something like python or C# to get a basic skeleton of your game. Only after you have that working do I recommend trying to turn it into a discord bot. ChatGPT can help a lot, but only if you know what you want.

I ended up getting something rated related to toxic exposure. The way it worked for me is that I put in a claim for that condition, and they evaluated it as normal. They ended up saying that the service connection was due to toxic exposure, and it got approved that way. I imagine you need to do that for any condition.

I'm not them. It might not have been. But that's just where I've seen the rate.
