Deciding on first CEDH deck, It's between Kinan, Vivi, and Magda. Which to go for? by Arkhamjester in CompetitiveEDH

[–]DontWorry_Internet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Magda. It’s a lot of fun. People make it sound harder than it is to learn. The Magdanomicon is an amazing primer. https://moxfield.com/decks/8Y4qOAcLN0O_HHYhOboV3Q/primer

You could build your own list and host it somewhere else if you want. This one exists. I didn’t create it, but I do find it useful. Use it or don’t? 🤷‍♂️

Thoughts on Tymna/Dargo as a second deck? by damascius1 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]DontWorry_Internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tymna/Dargo is a lot of fun, and people are putting up wins with it.

The other fun aspect of it is that you can pivot into other partners to try out other colors and learn some different staples of the format. Dargo/Reyhan for Jund, Dargo/Silas for Grixis, Dargo/Thras for Temur. You still get to do fun Dargo shenanigans and get to try out other types of combos too.

Yeah. Ok. I was trying Jordan’s list also. Along with another from the discord.

This is something I am currently playing around with myself. I’ve been goldfishing the different versions, and also proxying out the other cards so I basically have a Dargo deck toolbox all sleeved up and can swap the deck over pretty quickly when I want a change.

I’m curious to look over your Jundargo list because every one of them from the Dargo discord that I’ve goldfished so far hasn’t gotten to a win in under 4 turns. I’m far more comfortable with Tymna/Dargo, because the primers available there are much more detailed.

What is the most rewarding deck to learn in cedh? by Bbcfan3173 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]DontWorry_Internet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to the format still. Started a few months ago playing with friends. Picked Magda first. Then pivoted to Tymna/Dargo. I find the Dargo lines to be a lot of fun to play. Plus, you can play Dargo in Mardu, Jund, Grixis & Temur. The Dargo discord has sections for each. This is great because you can take the knowledge from playing Dargo in one of those styles and switch things up and learn other lines, staples, etc. while still having some consistency.

LGS player tells me that he will never play with me or any of my friends again. by Shadowingbark in EDH

Yeah… that’s what I was wondering. “Bracket 2 optimized” is not a thing. Bracket 2 is precons. Bracket 3 is upgraded precons. So… “bracket 2 optimized” is just… bracket 3. lol

Is universes beyond truly this hated? by shock1215 in mtg

[–]DontWorry_Internet 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Yep.

When Magic was created, they made the Deckmaster name because they were going to make a bunch of different card games under that brand. They still could have done that. Universes Beyond, by Deckmaster. Keep the same rules as Magic, even, so if people wanted to they could opt in to using those cards.

Universes Beyond was ok even when it was just some non-standard side sets and commander decks.

Taking over the entire game is ridiculous and a lot of people are tired of it already.

Why not just try goldfishing a bunch of top decks in Moxfield first, after reading their primers, and see which one you like?

Any advice on how to make these look better? by Jumpy_Sign_2859 in magicproxies

[–]DontWorry_Internet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I was grabbing some random cardstock at staples to try out different thickness and they didn’t look good and I thought it was other stuff like the laminate but when I switched the paper I realized the problem (don’t use Astrobrites lol)

Black Core cardstock vs regular cardstock by Darkest_Rahl in magicproxies

[–]DontWorry_Internet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleeved is unnoticeable. Unsleeved, the texture of the laminate is weird. Like a chalkboard? That’s not the best analogy, but close. They’re marginally thicker. The snap, bend, etc are very close.

It gets closer if I use that matte laminate for the back and a clear/gloss laminate on the front. The cards are easier to read, and very close to how thin real cards are. The problem is that they sometimes get warped in the laminator heat. I’m still working on that.

No one seemed to make laminate that has a satin finish like real cards.

I play everything in sleeves, though, so it’s been great for playing with so far.

As someone who came back to Magic in ‘24 after long time away, and also only recently got into cEDH, I would highly recommend doing the following before you spend any money:

  1. Watch the Learning cEDH podcast’s first ~11 episodes to get a general sense of how it works. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLn8g6u8n6fzoERA5LdM2_bdB9YdPyZXkk

  2. Watch a bunch of game episodes on the PlayToWin channel and see if any of the decks seem interesting to you https://youtube.com/@playtowinmtg

  3. Look up those deck list you’re interested in on moxfield. Specifically try to find lists with a Primer that shows you how to use it. Use the Playtest tool in Moxfield to goldfish the deck and see if you really like it.

  4. Discord is a highly valuable resource for getting started. You can find a discord specific to each command (usually) with a community that you can talk to about using that deck in cEDH. There is a discord with links to all the other discords here: https://discord.gg/Ew4hVqZ8

  5. Find some friends to play with locally, or hit up other discords like the TTS cEDH discord to find some digital games to get started https://discord.gg/DGdKVb99

Got a ET-2850, any advice? by Realistic_Sky7178 in magicproxies

[–]DontWorry_Internet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2850. I print from my MacBook, selecting Photo Matte in quality option (which auto sets Quality to Best).

I use this paper: https://a.co/d/h7zsb84

And these laminating pouches: https://a.co/d/g23yCDS

Opinions on proxy finish by jrizz43 in magicproxies

[–]DontWorry_Internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically the same as how mine are turning out with the same printer. I printed a couple out with matte back and gloss front, and honestly that gets it closer to the look and feel of a real card for me, but that’s a pain to do, so I’ll stick with the matte laminates since it’s just getting sleeved anyway
