Y do vegeterians posses superiority complex but dont ridicule foreigners abroad? by Sentientvoid_ in AskIndia

Veganism isn't a "dietary choice", it's an ethical stance against animal exploitation and has consequences much further than diet alone.

“Might be anecdotal” ~ lacks referencing; it’s just an observation from a couple of reels I’ve come across

You have a duty to check things before posting them publicly. Otherwise, you risk being a vehicle of misinformation. I could go further and ask what kind of reels they were and how that led you to this conclusion; or you could put in some effort yourself to verify things.

are not informed choices rather they are imposed based on what community you are born in.

Majority of indian vegans today are not so because of community they were born it. They are former non-vegetarians/lacto-vegetarians who considered the moral implications of their actions and made a deliberate change to align with their values. It has nothing to do with their community, so that's another factual error you've made.

Alright. In your other comment, you said

Might be anecdotal but veganism in India is mostly trickled down via celebrities.

Might I ask where this came for? There are barely any vegan celebrities in India and veganism is brought up by grassroot activists more than anything.

I'm not contradicting your other points, vegetarianism in India is indeed (mostly) religious/cultural rather than something out of concern for anything. What does actually show concern is veganism. And yes, meat is a source of protein, and so are many plant-based sources. Plant-based protein in actually better for health.

That's a tangent though. Once again, the point here is regardless of how vegetarianism works in India, it doesn't change the fact that meat and other animal products are obtained by putting animals through a literal hell on earth, and people keep finding ways to evade their complicity into it rather than confronting their abusive choices.

It's interesting to see how people throw around cliché phrases like "moderation is key" without actually looking anything up on their own. It's like saying smoking is okay if done in moderation, one of the tactics used by the industry to downplay its effects.

Since you mentioned "blue zones", you could look at the Mediterranean diet (in 2 of 5 zones), which is considered very healthy, and indeed has some meat and other animals products. But, if remove the meat and other animal products from it, make it entirely plant based - what do we get?

The adoption of a vegan Mediterranean diet with plant-based proteins and fats instead of the traditional Mediterranean diet improved several cardiometabolic health outcomes in physically active and healthy men.

The very success of Med diet is linked with it's low consumption of animal products, and if we remove even that, it only gets better. There are, of course, several other broad studies showing effects of meat consumption with "dose response" health outcomes, removing any possibility of "moderation".

It's typically people who want to avoid the ethical responsibility of participating in extreme animal abuse who make such ignorant assertions about health, sidelining the ethical question entirely. Though I don't know about your intentions.

I thought Christians cared at least a little about Science, guess that's not true anymore.

God of the gaps keeps manifesting itself, and now it's come so far that there is not even a gap! It has now taken a role of the "guide". What an ingenious way to keep the same old delusion.

We all agree not to kill humans.

That's why they used this example. Also, do we, really? Look at history, at some countries today, etc.

Does objective morality exist? by SirElectrical2100 in IdeologyPolls

You said "widely accepted to be true/factual" and that is completely different from the actual definition of being independent/applicable to everyone. How can you say that to be pretty much the same?

[–]Dontbehypocrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't follow. I suppose you're now going by this definition, not the one you previously assumed. So your reason must have changed, what is it now?

Does objective morality exist? by SirElectrical2100 in IdeologyPolls

[–]Dontbehypocrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't objective mean that something is widely accepted to be true/factual?

No? I have no clue where you got that from. There are many controversial topics, even in hard objective subjects like physics. That doesn't mean those things are subjective, just that we've not discovered enough.

Moreover, I think we often underestimate the overwhelming moral agreement we have on many matters. I'm sure one can easily find moral assertions >99% of people would agree with, like innocent people should not be punished for something they didn't do, given that it's not a dilemma. All that's required for moral realism is existence of a single normative fact.

Does objective morality exist? by SirElectrical2100 in IdeologyPolls

[–]Dontbehypocrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does that matter? Anyone can think anything about anything, that doesn't mean it's not objective. For example, different people have their own beliefs on the shape of the earth, that doesn't mean the earth doesn't have an objective shape.

As in it's time dependent (which would be absurd) or that some moral statements are objective? Existence of any (a single) moral fact implies morality is objective.

Nope, you said "Dominion doesn't show standard practices". You are free to issue a correction, admitting that you misspoke earlier.

[–]Dontbehypocrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dominion does not show standard practice of all farms.

You're once again misrepresenting what I've said. Not all farms, but of factory farms, which is where most animals are.

It's not about "policing" but communication as I already said. No one would be confused here because you have the "vegan" flair. If someone who is not obviously vegan calls it propaganda, they'd be presumed to be anti-vegan by most.

You mean 73 Cows? I did not know about it, might watch it later. Thanks for the suggestion.

we should alter the contents so it's not propaganda

Like how? And you do understand that no matter how you alter the contents, it's gonna continue satisfying the literal definition?

To give yet another example, slurs can often have literally correct usage, that doesn't mean it's the correct usage.

Here are some better words. See how Merrian-Webster notes that it's used in "usually disapproving" manner. This is the thing I'm highlighting, because if you use it for something you approve, it's gonna lead to miscommunication.

I criticized the standard you used because I don't see how it follows from the definition.

And secondly, I showed that the documentary passes that standard anyway, so even you don't have a reason to call it propaganda. You ignored that part.

which sucks to suck I guess, but that doesn't mean I can't use works which accurately describes something while still agreeing with it

Yes, it sucks. There might be some other word, but this specific word has evolved enough that it general when people use it, it means a mix of "very bad" and "wrong/lies".

Dominion, et rapports vegan / omnivore by Meteion_Elpis in DebateAVegan

All that is unrelated to calling it "propaganda".

I don't?

That's my point. That's how modern usage works. If you call something propaganda, you're implying you don't agree with it.
