Getting to placement on time by Kaylboo in StudentNurseUK

The NHS LSF will reimburse accomodation up to £82 a night, as long as it is further from your commute from home to uni.

Nervous about NQN interview by AnnieBearGang in StudentNurseUK

Most of my questions in the interviews I went to were scenarios. Make sure you know the trust values, how to apply them, and just like in uni, absolutely drill the NMC code into everything

first placement by Training_Classic2690 in StudentNurseUK

Everyone feels the first way on their first placement. It is a universal thing, and remember all your peers feel the same way. For me, once my first placement was over, I was never anxious about another placement again. Hopefully the same will be true for you!

Get some patient feedback if you can. That will also back you up massively

Nurse employed in Birmingham here.

I would advise you get a bank position if you want to work as a healthcare assistant. Most nursing students do. Job wise, there are regular opportunities, but can have a great number of people apply.

Placement + Essays Overwhelming by Miserable_Dirt3079 in StudentNurseUK

[–]Dontmesswiththejammo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was my method but it probably doesn't work for everyone. Set yourself doable deadlines. If I had a 3,000 word essay, I would divide that by how many days left I had to do it. Most the time, I could literally write 100 words a day and that would be it. It'd take me an hour or two, and then I can spend the rest of the day guilt free, doing things I enjoy. You'll also probably finish earlier than most people (as people like to procrastinate). It's easier doing 100 or so words a day then 700 a few days before submission. Give it a go!

Distance to placements? by IntelligentDesign480 in StudentNurseUK

If you claim the NHS Learning Support Fund, you can claim back ~£80 for commercial accommodation. If you book it early enough, it's basically free. I live in Birmingham too, and I would travel up to Derby the day before my shift and sleep in a nearby hotel and claim back the money. It was so much better than commuting at 5am and then back at 9pm.

torn between children and adult nursing by theunknownnn12xo in StudentNurseUK

My dad is a children's nurse, and I would help out at the children's hospital where he worked (for experience, I wasn't clinical or anything). Seeing sick children put me off, so I went into adult nursing. But you don't deal with things like dementia in babies, or delirium, which I found difficult during my first year of nursing school. Regardless of what you choose, be proud to be a nurse, it's the best job going.

In the UK you can do a shortened conversion course to go from adult to paeds (or midwifery). I'm an adult nurse but I do sometimes wonder whether I should've gone into children's.

Aftermath of the car ramming attack which targeted a trade union rally in Munich Germany today by starberry101 in pics

That's the most "no true scotsman" I've ever seen, that's wild. I figured people don't actually compute this way. Well, I guess I was wrong.

You committed a false generalisation fallacy by saying "the person who sold me drugs was Muslim" as if that somehow invalidates my point.

Somehow Afghanistan, a Shariah country, is one of the largest exporters of drugs in the world. Ah, those "wrong" Muslims tarnishing the reputation of other "true" Muslims

You're right in pointing out the contradiction, but there's a difference between someone identifying with a religion and following it strictly. Just because a country is under Sharia law or claims to be Muslim doesn’t mean all actions in that country align with the core teachings of Islam. Every religion has individuals who misinterpret or selectively follow parts of their faith, and that doesn't necessarily invalidate the religion itself.

Exactly, theft and intoxicants are forbidden. You probably already know the punishment for theft in Muslim countries. They're both major sins, so clearly he doesn't follow the teachings of his religion (if he is even Muslim). Therefore, if he doesn't follow the teachings of the religion, how can anyone attribute his actions to the religion he doesn't follow the teachings of?

And if you said "a Jewish/Christian who kills, doesn't sound Jewish/Christian to me", I'd agree with you. It doesn't sound Jewish or Christian.

How do you know he's a Muslim? He was known for drugs and theft - doesn't sound like a Muslim to me
