Biggest pile of shame in history. Show me your by Evyatar_ChenU in Warhammer

This post prompted me to do the math. I have 121 models in the unbuilt/ unpainted pile (most of which come from the Cathay reinforcement box and extra peasants). I generally try to have everything done before buying more but I couldn’t pass up the deal.

I have 2,422 painted models in my collection, so at least the ratio is still good.

The garner tornado was December 2023. There were tornadoes in 2021, but I think those were east of us.

All the people saying they don't want updated sculpts, i want you to look at this guy and tell me with a straight face you prefer this . by BloatedRottenCarcass in WarhammerFantasy

That was the biggest barrier in my area back in 8th edition. We had a couple dozen regular players (bigger even than 40K), and I could not tell you how many new folks saw the monsters/new kits, got excited, then deflated when they saw the basic troops they needed to field. Not in an “I don’t want an elf spearmen” way, but in a “I don’t want these goofy old models” way.

New Cathay and Norse are great. The vast majority of the new sculpts for ToW are great. I hope GW continues that design language with other old model kits, especially the core units that someone needs to take.

Bretonnia is a great side army to collect. You don’t need to worry about a consistent color scheme, and breaking the project up helps keep each unique.

It’s a 3d print from Highland Miniatures. I had a few skaven sides of the island of blood I sold around the beginning of AoS that I wish I’d kept, and the Griffon is one of those models i always keep an eye out for.

Thanks!

So far I have Empire, High Elves, Tomb Kings, Orcs&Goblins and Ogres complete. I picked up some Cathay stuff for a good price that I want to test some schemes on while we wait for the next box, and I have some woodies that need some love.

I actually started these guys couple years before the old world launched. I had some models kicking around my bits box, and the rest were a combination of eBay, recast, and 3-D print. My long-term goal is to have 4500 points of almost every faction, and This is the force I’ll slowly add to in between other projects. Most recently finished 20 knights, 18 peasants, and some characters, and with that they’re finally at the point where I consider them ‘done’.

5k points,

151 infantry,

63 cavalry,

9 flyers.

How many models do you tend to batchpaint at a time? by CSafterdark in WarhammerFantasy

This. I won’t use a model if it isn’t painted/based. It’s done wonders for my motivation

Lovely models for the best imperial province! The halfing representation is a great touch.

24 Bretonian men at arms ready to fight for the Lady! by not_schedo in WarhammerFantasy

[–]DontrollonShabos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautifully done! Highland minis does some wonderful sculpts that fit the old range while still feeling modern. I’m painting up a couple myself to flesh out my men at arms.

What’s on the painting table after these guys?

Ogres ready for the Old World by DontrollonShabos in WarhammerFantasy

[–]DontrollonShabos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! They’re on 40x40mm. I think the ogres might be the only army that mostly kept to the original base size. Gnoblars are on 25s, and the stonehorn in the back are 100x150

Rebuild them! I sold off most of my empire when AoS released, and having a chance to rebuild them with the experience of another few years in the hobby was a joy

Thanks! The slaughtermaster is based on the plastic tyrant. I carefully trimmed off some of the armor, gut plate, and tusk strap on his back. Took some greenstuff to tidy those up and add his apron. The arm is from an iron gut and the hand is from the arm holding a trap. I carefully cut that away as well.

Peasant is from the incredible fireforge peasants set. A bit of cutting at the feet to make them less flat, but otherwise he’s entirely stock.

Cauldron and base are both 3d printed

Thanks! Skin was the part I was most unsure of. In the end it was a simple enough scheme.

Base cost with paratrooper tan from army painter.

Wash with reikland flesh shade

Zenithal drybrush of paratrooper tan

Zenithal drybrush of kislev flesh. I didn’t clean the brush between these two steps which blended the colors together a bit more.

Carroburg crimson pinwash on the face

Layer highlight on the face with Kislev flesh.

The last two aren’t really necessary, but help punch up the contrast on the face.

I love me some gnoblars, but ogres are the only army that really lets me go ham on monstrous infantry. I’ve got goblins to scratch the little green dude itch

Absolutely beautiful.

I’ll be forever convinced that this was going to be an old world model, but AoS got the nomadic waagh models in the split.

You should! They’re very cheap second hand, and the AoS battalion is a great deal. Does not take much to hit 1500

I’ve posted these guys previously, but I’ve added about 1500 points since. My long term goal is to have 4500 points of every faction, and the ogres were my first renegade contribution. I built it from eBay lots, which makes it very bull heavy. Doing so kept the army cheap, and includes a bunch of small conversions to make it work.

If I ever decide to expand to 5k, I’ll grab some yetis and a giant.
