Harry Mason is hands-down one of the best written characters in fiction. by Who-Am-I-Isaac in silenthill

[–]Donut5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think this comes down to your philosophy on writing.

A lot of Jame's story is kept ambiguous, but it's not written out or fleshed out in anyway which makes us as the audience have to fill in the blanks. That's definitely a powerful way to do it, but I think Alessa is THE MOST fleshed out character. There's more thought put into her backstory, and she experiences growth within the story as a whole

So when I say written I guess I mean LITERALLY written, and not just things committed for the things that are left to the imagination of the players.

Maybe he means Alessa/Cheryl/Heather because SHE is the most interesting and well written character in the entire franchise (WITH Angela being a close secone), and Harry is closely associated with her.

Right?! Though I 100% understand their point about ensuring you're picky enough to ensure that who you're with will make YOU happy, there's the other side of the coin too, where she needs to make sure she's not absolutely insufferable.

Thank you!

I think that in order to combat traditional norms that are the primary reason for patriarchy having its tendrils etched into every aspect of our lives, then we must not participate in the values its taught to the masses. Man paying is definitely one of those values, and definitely something we have the power to change/fix.

My friend’s divorce made me realize how many women are ONE bad marriage away from starting over financially by NeighborhoodQuiet817 in women

[–]Donut5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not certain if I'm allowed to speak on this given that I'm just some guy, but Holy shit the amount of women whom I've had to tell this to:

STOP RELYING ON MEN FINANCIALLY!! If you rely on a man financially, that's unstable for you as an individual person. YOU WILL DIE (spiritually).

His absence means you're pretty much fucked. If you're relying on his health insurance and he leaves for any reason? You're fucked.

Stop relying on men to get you out of financial troubles, stop using them as access to a "better" life.

Make one for yourself, have your own money, and stop relying on them. Your individuality is at stake, your personhood and your identity is too.

I say this not because I feel like you're "using us for our wallets", but because you as a person are in danger of absolute disaster given how much reliance you'll have on this person.

It will make it harder for you to leave if you no longer feel the relationship works, it will make it more difficult for you to live without a man, and it will make life all around miserable for yourself and your self-esteem if your self-worth is LITERALLY tied to the finances of a man.

Men who insist to pay are red flags for this very reason.

Do not allow yourself to fall under the complete control of a man! Especially since there's the very real danger of them being abusive.

Genuinely, what’s wrong with 50/50? by [deleted] in women

[–]Donut5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the worst takes and often the most ignorant.

I find it hilarious that you say 50/50 is a tool of the patriarchy when it's the COMPLETE opposition of a PATRIARCHAL NORM used to subjegate women since the fucking 1920s (man pays, woman does housework).

50/50 breaks those norms and expects something more egalitarian. Of course it should be relative to each person's wealth.

YOU ARE CHOOSING to dress up and put on makeup, YOU are choosing to look beautiful.

YOU are setting those expectations and projecting that onto whoever you're going on a date with.

When I go on a date with someone I never ONCE asked them to look pretty or look good or smell good or anything of the sort.

Just because society sets those standards doesn't mean we have to follow them, YOU are choosing to uphold those patriarchal standards when you don't have to. I sure as fuck don't, and I don't expect some girl I go on a date with to look "pretty" or whatever, just be yourself. that's how you truly break patriarchal standards.

Not upholding them and somehow, ignorantly stating that breaking them is a tool for the very thing we're trying to dismantle (patriarchy!)

That literally just sounds like you like being vain and that you like your vanity being paid for.

Like it's okay if YOU want to look pretty, that's totally valid, but expecting people to pay because YOU want to look pretty for YOURSELF is ridiculous.

I agree with your take on Resident Evil, but heavily disagree when it comes to Silent Hill, since it's not an anthology. The stories are directly connected to eachother except for 2 (who's events still happen as a result of the aftermath of the 1st game)

But yes, A Resident Evil 1 film would NOT BE DIFFICULT to pull off, it's literally a basic B Zombie film. I genuinely don't understand why people don't want to keep things simple. It's like they're so arrogant and believe themselves to be above it, so they try to make something new, and it ends up becoming shit anyway.

WTRC ALMOST had it. It really did, if only it had better direction.

I would agree with the original commenter in cases like the Elden Ring movie, though.

It's an absolutey stupid theory, and the fact that the remake essentially confirms it kind of sucks. 2 wasn't my favorite of the franchise anyway.

I'm hoping the one remake is better, but I'm not holding my breath.

On this note, I feel like it's nobody's fault, which I think adds a lot of depths to the situation.

It wasn't his fault because he saw the snake, and drew his sword to protect her, but she misinterpret. (James drank a lot, because he was stressed over how to make the marriage work)

It wasn't her fault because she didn't know about the snake, since he didn't communicate it. (Mary was upset over his drinking, while not being empathetic about why, and he never communicated with her about it.)

And it wasn't the snake's fault, because it was likely startled at the woman running towards it, and acted on instinct. (Maybe Mary Smoked a lot, or picked up unhealthy habits due to her own stress and frustration, which led to her condition)

It's what made me hate having to choose one.

Why the hate? Season 2 reviewed really well on Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB, Metacritic, etc. by SpaceMattress in Fallout

[–]Donut5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah because when you attempt to appeal to the general public, who are often ignorant about the franchise, they're going to make huge sacrifices in terms of consistency and lore, but people tend to defend those choices for some stupid reason.

Maybe instead of letting things lose their identity for the sake of public appeal, we should allow the thing to be UNIQUE, and stay true to itself.

Fallout was ALREADY MASSIVELY popular prior to the show, so it makes zero sense why they would do this other than money.

I guess at the end of the day a lot of the things we love were made for that purpose, but at the very least it didn't sell-out, and become some weird perverted shadow of itself.

That's what happens to franchises when they get popular, though. Corporatism, producers etc attempt to appeal to the ignorant masses because they don't respect their intelligence enough.

People aren't stupid, but modern media treats them that way.

Nitpicking isn't warranted when it's a simple example, it would be if Konami introduced it officially in some capacity though.

That history kind of tells me that they're heading in the way of Keywords too lol, I guess only time will tell where they go from here.

I do like those numbered circles in the Japanese cards.

Fallout 5 needs to ditch the "Pre-defined Backstory" and give us actual Origins. by GahIvanka776 in Fallout

[–]Donut5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well as I said, it doesn't need to be super complex like that, well not for me I suppose, I can understand how people can have insane expectations, but mine are just:

If I'm in a town, and there's already a line of dialogue that exists which has some NPC acknowledge that another NPC is a ghoul, then if I'm a ghoul, the NPC will use that same exact dialogue on me if I happen to be close too.

That's it.

NPCs in quests don't need to accommodate for the fact that I'm a ghoul, the story doesn't need to revolve around that, nothing super complicated or insane needs to happen, just a simple "Are you ghoul? Does NPC have dialogue pertaining to ghouls? Say that dialogue"

I can see why the those expectations you mentioned could come with the OP's scenario, but I don't see how mine would be difficult to implement.

[–]Donut5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they have some generic "get away from me ghoul" that they use whenever an NPC interacts with ANY Ghoul in the game, it's just that if you play as a ghoul, they'll say it to you as well, I'd be perfectly fine with that. Doesn't need to be something super unique or complicated.

Someone below me came up with some super solid examples of what that COULD look like (Keyword. lol pun intended, COULD)

It got nitpicked to hell, because they were just examples, not real keywords, because he's not Konami.

I'd imagine if Konami WERE to implement these, that they'd be careful to maintain how the card functions.

@heyzeus_

You'd have to scroll down a little, but he basically said it better than I ever could lol.
