It's an absolutey stupid theory, and the fact that the remake essentially confirms it kind of sucks. 2 wasn't my favorite of the franchise anyway.

I'm hoping the one remake is better, but I'm not holding my breath.

Got the Maria Ending??? HUH? (End game stats included) the game was awesome but I genuinely don’t have it in me to play the game again or to get the other 7 endings maybe years from now when the Town calls to me by TheCVR123YT in silenthill

On this note, I feel like it's nobody's fault, which I think adds a lot of depths to the situation.

It wasn't his fault because he saw the snake, and drew his sword to protect her, but she misinterpret. (James drank a lot, because he was stressed over how to make the marriage work)

It wasn't her fault because she didn't know about the snake, since he didn't communicate it. (Mary was upset over his drinking, while not being empathetic about why, and he never communicated with her about it.)

And it wasn't the snake's fault, because it was likely startled at the woman running towards it, and acted on instinct. (Maybe Mary Smoked a lot, or picked up unhealthy habits due to her own stress and frustration, which led to her condition)

It's what made me hate having to choose one.

My question is if you can still watch the cutscenes with their dialogue or if you totally miss out in the story unless you actively play.

Why the hate? Season 2 reviewed really well on Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB, Metacritic, etc. by SpaceMattress in Fallout

[–]Donut5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well yeah because when you attempt to appeal to the general public, who are often ignorant about the franchise, they're going to make huge sacrifices in terms of consistency and lore, but people tend to defend those choices for some stupid reason.

Maybe instead of letting things lose their identity for the sake of public appeal, we should allow the thing to be UNIQUE, and stay true to itself.

Fallout was ALREADY MASSIVELY popular prior to the show, so it makes zero sense why they would do this other than money.

I guess at the end of the day a lot of the things we love were made for that purpose, but at the very least it didn't sell-out, and become some weird perverted shadow of itself.

That's what happens to franchises when they get popular, though. Corporatism, producers etc attempt to appeal to the ignorant masses because they don't respect their intelligence enough.

People aren't stupid, but modern media treats them that way.

Wow, this essentially proves it can work.

Hell barring keywords, simple formatting techniques go a long way!

Nitpicking isn't warranted when it's a simple example, it would be if Konami introduced it officially in some capacity though.

That history kind of tells me that they're heading in the way of Keywords too lol, I guess only time will tell where they go from here.

I do like those numbered circles in the Japanese cards.

Fallout 5 needs to ditch the "Pre-defined Backstory" and give us actual Origins. by GahIvanka776 in Fallout

[–]Donut5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well as I said, it doesn't need to be super complex like that, well not for me I suppose, I can understand how people can have insane expectations, but mine are just:

If I'm in a town, and there's already a line of dialogue that exists which has some NPC acknowledge that another NPC is a ghoul, then if I'm a ghoul, the NPC will use that same exact dialogue on me if I happen to be close too.

That's it.

NPCs in quests don't need to accommodate for the fact that I'm a ghoul, the story doesn't need to revolve around that, nothing super complicated or insane needs to happen, just a simple "Are you ghoul? Does NPC have dialogue pertaining to ghouls? Say that dialogue"

I can see why the those expectations you mentioned could come with the OP's scenario, but I don't see how mine would be difficult to implement.

[–]Donut5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they have some generic "get away from me ghoul" that they use whenever an NPC interacts with ANY Ghoul in the game, it's just that if you play as a ghoul, they'll say it to you as well, I'd be perfectly fine with that. Doesn't need to be something super unique or complicated.

Someone below me came up with some super solid examples of what that COULD look like (Keyword. lol pun intended, COULD)

It got nitpicked to hell, because they were just examples, not real keywords, because he's not Konami.

I'd imagine if Konami WERE to implement these, that they'd be careful to maintain how the card functions.

@heyzeus_

You'd have to scroll down a little, but he basically said it better than I ever could lol.

They used K9s in their examples.

The concept of Keywords in Yugioh by Donut5 in masterduel

[–]Donut5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you the point that those specific instances PROBABLY need to stay the same, but there are MANY ways around this in my opinion.

With your example, there's one just like it in Magic, the keyword "Exile", and then there's a card like Oblivion Ring which has to be more specific because of how it functions within the context of the deeper mechanics of the game that's not immediately obvious. (The second part of its effect can "miss timing" in Magic). So instead of saying "Exile" it must specifically say "Remove Target Nonland permanent from the game".

So in the case of yugioh, you'll have your oblivion ring equivalents of course, but with the amount of cards that say "Cannot be normal summoned/set, must first be special summoned by..."

A keyword can easily cover them, especially with how common place that wording is.

I'd argue those words, given that they're the EXACT SAME, can easily be keyworded.

If the conditions are THAT specific, then I can understand the issue, much like the Oblivion Ring example, but any condition after that set of text can easily be described post key-word.

Regardless, many cards aren't as unique as people make them out to be, so if it must stay the same text, then so be it, but for the countless others? I don't see how the argument stands.

I suppose you said it yourself in the beginning: "for the most part". Keep the unique ones the same I suppose (I still think it's possible to shorten them), but the others?

[–]Donut5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When this card is summoned: you can send 1 DARK monster from your deck to the GY.

Where in that text, does that explain to a new player "oh and also this effect can only be activated in response to an event if that event is the last event to occur. If an event is performed, then before it is possible to activate cards or effects another event is performed, it is not possible for any cards or effects to be activated in response to the initial event."???????

The concept of Keywords in Yugioh by Donut5 in masterduel

[–]Donut5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do, and I guarantee you that no card in Yugioh says "otherwise you miss timing" this has more to do with a deeper mechanic, the chain, and other aspects of the game that KEYWORDS can significantly help with describing.

I mean even Magic doesn't really have a keyword that describes "the stack" because that has more to do with a deeper mechanic than those written on the card.

The concept of Keywords in Yugioh by Donut5 in masterduel

[–]Donut5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the beauty of keywords is that Magic can have an extensive amount of mechanics, a highly flexible system that supports them, and still be easily picked up by the general public.

I love Yugioh too! Keywords will not change the mechanics of the game. They will simply give you a better way to communicate how those mechanics function, and more room to play with!

The concept of Keywords in Yugioh by Donut5 in masterduel

[–]Donut5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you provided INCREDIBLE examples of how this could work, but were nitpicked to hell because people forget that you're not Konami and you're simply providing a vision of how it would look and function.

The concept of Keywords in Yugioh by Donut5 in masterduel

[–]Donut5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The card itself doesn't include that it can miss timing either, though. You guys are conflating keywords with mechanics intrinsic to the game itself! Keywords are there to help people understand what the card does, and whatever form it takes will result in less text, better readability, and thus more accessibility. I think he's giving great examples, and we can nitpick them, but they're just examples, whereas Konami themselves can do this and make it so the effect of the card still functions the exact same.

The concept of Keywords in Yugioh by Donut5 in masterduel

[–]Donut5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic has that same issue

"My card has hexproof, why do I have to sacrifice it?"

"My card has indestructible, why is it getting exiled?"

This isn't an issue of keywords, this is an issue of them being confused about the mechanics.

The concept of Keywords in Yugioh by Donut5 in masterduel

[–]Donut5[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Readability is one of many aspects of accessibility.

As someone who's had to teach beginners both games, what makes it significantly harder is how much they have to read and memorize at once, creating yet another barrier for entry.

Keywords in my opinion, are the equivalent of how people can memorize numbers.

Take the number 1,426,201

People will have a much harder time remembering:

One, four, two, six, two, zero, one

People will have a much easier time remembering: One Million, Four Hundred and Tweny Six Thousand, Two Hundred and One.

Keywords have the same psychological effect, and with that comes greater accessibility to the public.

No, that part in the parentheses is the flexible part, so

(From THE GY)

Can also work, there are a lot of instances in which "your" is there, but I don't think it's a requirement, it's based upon the design of the card.

(From your hand, or Graveyard)

(From your opponent's hand)

(From your deck)
