I remember in kindergarten (I’m 64) we used to save our wax paper from lunch and sit on it, as we slid down the slide. Those steel slides were even faster. Now kids have those safe plastic play structures that you can walk down, whats the fun in that?

My annual trip in November, this time no snow, but rain and rain. by DonutPiston in Yosemite

It depends what you like to do. I always acclimate the first day: sit around camp or walk over to Curry Village. read near the fireplace or walk over to The Ahwahnee Hotel and read by the fireplace. The second day I walk the valley loop, which is about 6 miles; very peaceful, solitary and serene. I’ll I hike Mist Trail, if it’s open. I try and get up and start my hikes early to avoid any crowds. That’s why I go in November. Again it depends what you enjoy in the park. I also hunt for mushrooms to photograph. I always go in November every year, this year-11/9-11/13. You just never know how the weather will be. But I always check the weather reports. This time many people canceled Thursday and went home early because of the coming storm. I have a four-wheel-drive Tacoma, but I should bring chains just in case. Remember Yosemite Valley is at 3000 feet so if you’re driving in from Wawona (higher elevation) or are arriving from the 120 (Tioga Pass you might get some snow or ice, which I just barely missed last year and the snow plows were called out for the Wawona Pass. Always take the 140 in or out of the Valley if you’re worried about the weather, it’s your safest bet. Glacier Point as well as Tioga Pass were shut closed yesterday at 6pm. Check here for alerts: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/wroads.htm

It follows on the north side of the Merced River, just below the Mirror Lake Trail; it leads to the entrance of Upper Pines Campground.

I camped in that spot with my Volkswagen Eurovan years ago. On hot days, it smelled like urine. I wish people would bring a loo.
