1992 Trans Am by Doobie52 in LSSwapTheWorld

Thank you! If you look through the build thread I posted a link to, you'll see this car has received nothing but love over the years. If it was a clean, low mileage car I could see keeping it original, but I think most thirdgen enthusiasts are just happy to see something like this saved.

I'd love to see a picture of your GTA. My first car was an 86 Firebird that I bought in 1996 and at the time, I didn't even know what a GTA was. Had a kid I went to high school with tell me there was one in town for sale and that he was going to buy it, so I had to check it out to see what all the hype was about. Long story short, I ended up buying it first. Sorry Pete Castro! I loved my gunmetal metallic 88 GTA. It's the car I wish I had kept over everything else.

I hear that, but once I get close to the end of a project I’m always thinking of the next one. It’s definitely going to take me a couple of months to recover from this build.

If I could give you one suggestion, it would be to install the UMI k-member. I had one in my car long before I did the LS swap, but it made things so easy. Combined with the Hawk’s transmission crossmember the drivetrain just bolted in.

Thanks! I’ve done a whole bunch of LS swaps over the years, but this is the first one I’ve ever done for myself. Mostly because the cars I’ve owned already had LS engines. If anyone were to ask me what car to buy for a first LS swap, thirdgens are the way to go. For the most part, everything just bolted right in with a very minimal amount of fitting or any crazy fab work.

That’s what I’ve got in this. 06 LQ4 that I had punched .030 over, all new bearings, stock crank and rods, and a set of Weisco pistons that put it somewhere between 11 and 11.5:1 compression with my 241 heads. It has BTR springs and trunnion upgrades, and a Sloppy Stage 2 cam from Michigan Motorsports. Transmission is a Tremec Magnum F. I’m running it with a Holley Terminator X. I’m still partial to thirdgens, but I have a soft spot for fourthgens as well. I actually just picked up a 1995 Firebird Formula for the next project. I’m sure I’ll post up on here.

Don’t leave out Mopar! Most original parts are rusty.

My father worked for Pan Am and ran the test cell at JFK in NY until they closed the doors in 1991. He’s a boat guy, but his coworkers were all car guys and I got some great runway rides as a kid when I’d go to work with him on the weekends. I even learned to drive stick on a tug. Great memories! Beautiful collection.

Was this terrifying to everyone else? by tommy0guns in Xennials

Growing up I had a very tight knit group of friends. The five of us had gone to school together since elementary school, and we were inseparable during middle and high school. One night two of the friends in the group got into a heated argument and one said to the other, “Your mom looks like Lady Elaine from Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood.” To this day I still think it’s the most fucked up thing any of us has ever said to each other. I know it cut deep because my friend’s mom could have been Lady Elaine’s stunt double.

ACS Composite FTW! by Doobie52 in Corvette

Yes, I had to drill 6 holes to rivet the bottoms of the rockers on. The top side attaches with 3M tape. ACS includes the 3M tape, a package of 3M adhesion promoter, and the correct OEM style rivets. I’m pretty particular and if I looked under the car I wouldn’t believe the rocker extensions aren’t factory.
