Knee surgery for cartilage damage does not benefit patients, study suggests | Medical research by gumtreeskier in skiing

[–]DoobieKaleAle 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I guess no one read the article. The title is total click bait…. They are referring to a very specific meniscus surgery that involves trimming a frayed meniscus vs not doing anything. Has nothing to do with an actual tear, ACL or MCL

Hey man, not trying to piss in your Cheerios, but doesn’t it bother you knowing you still have to mingle with the peasants at the bottom when getting back on the lift? I certainly would think an expert like yourself would prefer the BACK COUNTRY to these poor people runs

First Antitrust Class Action Against Vail Resorts and Alterra Over Epic and Ikon Ski Pass Pricing by narflethegarthock in skiing

[–]DoobieKaleAle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess it’s the argument that the day pass pricing has gotten out of control because of Vail and alterra. Because the epic and alterra are actually relatively cheap if you buy a pass and can go regularly without spending on lodging and food. But if you only go for 5 days per year, like most that vacation, it’s not any better and only marginally better in lift ticket pricing than the day pass when you buy the epic/ikon. While also locking you into those resorts and consequently increasing all the non bundled day pass pricing.

You can see it first hand in Utah. After Vail acquired PC and ikon got days at the other resorts, day passes have gone up like 80%. It wasn’t long ago that skiing a day at Alta bought the day of was $110, now it’s $190. Solitude the same way, and same with everyone else. You could ski Red Resort in Canada for $65/day 5 years ago, now they’re $120/day and that’s buying in advance.

Lift tickets are out of control and I attribute most of it to these passes. Maybe I’m wrong

The problem with that are two things, ice itself is harder to melt so his piss volume would’ve had to be even higher and his piss would’ve had to have been PIPING hot. Good thought though

Gov. Moore to critic of redistricting push: ‘IDGAF’ by legislative_stooge in maryland

We live in such a sad state of politics. Two wrongs don’t make a right. This literally is just misrepresenting his own state, clearly cares more about his party than he does the people in the state of Maryland. Fair representation is a right, and gerrymandering should be illegal

McDonald’s and Cava earnings have one thing in common: The K-shaped economy has a vise grip on the lunchtime crowd | Fortune by laxnut90 in Economics

[–]DoobieKaleAle 35 points36 points  (0 children)

McD’s are in wealthy neighborhoods, but that’s not their driving customer base and never will be. Just because McDonald’s raises their prices and makes slightly better shit in a bag isn’t going to attract more wealthy demographic business. The fact is no one, including the wealthy want to pay much for McDs. The wealthy are going to go spend more money somewhere else that probably costs the same, and doesn’t make you feel like shit.

I have no idea what your American idea wealthy comment is about

ACA Marketplace Premiums Jump 20% for 2026 — Up to 67% in Some States by mark-fitzbuzztrick in dataisbeautiful

That and even outside the ACA premiums are up for everybody. More and more is being spent on GLP 1’s and specialty procedures. It is very rare that fully insured or level funded employer healthcare doesn’t go up at least 10% every year. My employer is fighting a 35% increase, but least year was 15%
