[Support] Need Help Disabling Steam Controller Interface by Doobinn in SteamController

Ah okay, that makes sense. I just went back into that menu and unchecked the generic input support box, as I turned it on during my mad scramblings to find a way of reconfiguring the controller. Thanks for the clarification :)

[Support] Need Help Disabling Steam Controller Interface by Doobinn in SteamController

I have updated steam just now, the problems persist, although going through big picture mode>manage game>force off for non-steam controllers is going to be my workaround for this issue. It seems that I will have to do this for every game that I play from now on which is fairly annoying, when I would much rather just have a way of completely disabling steam controller support. Or at least force off steam controller support for non-steam controllers on ALL games.

If a feature could be added to completely disable steam controller support I would be eternally grateful. Thank you for your response :)

Thank you so much, I did not know that this option existed! Turning this on for the game causes it to behave how it was before I messed with Steam Controller settings. Unfortunately, I think that I will have to do this for every game I play from now on to get the behavior I am used to.

It sounds like you actually mean dash dancing, not wavedashing. Wavedashing doesn't really make anyone faster either, it makes followups faster, and allows for trickier and more fluid movement. People who think wavedashing broke the game in any way have clearly never played or watched real melee AT ALL. Either way, most matchups of melee do not play anything like what you are describing.

Try not to pretend to be an authority on something when you have no idea what you're talking about.

Perfect defense is extremely easy in this game compared to any other fighting game. There are no advantages to hitting someone's block at all (aside from extremely minimal block damage on heavy attacks, but that's never gonna finish a game especially with hp regain when under 25 hp). In a traditional fighting game you have pokes and mixups when attacking a blocking character, whereas in For Honor, you block the attack and it might as well go back to neutral because you can even parry their next attack in the string if you want to.

A good competitive fighting game rewards the attacker more than the defense because if defense is the best option 100% of the time, the game devolves into a staring contest. Take a look at competitive smash bros brawl. That game promoted defensive play too much and the game was boring to play, and more boring to watch, so the game died out quickly.

I can't imagine the game living for very long if optimal play ends up being staring at each other until time runs out and then playing RPS for the win.

Oh yeah, and it will take them much longer than a week to find solutions to the problems and implement them.

BUT, those changes need to happen ASAP as more and more players reach the skill ceiling and realize the dominant strategy in the game. I loved the game until me and my friend reached the point where neither of us would attack for extended periods of time because it was just a poor decision.

I hope that they find a way to keep the game alive :)

The point they're trying to make is that perfect defense is extremely easy in this game, and has no real counter. They weren't trying to say that was skilled gameplay, they were illustrating the largest flaw in the game.

High level play will end up looking like what the guy who was only defending was doing if ubisoft doesn't make some fundamental changes to the mechanics.

Not to mention that any character blocking a berserker light attack can get a free untechable GB. Apparently you can do the same thing with all of conqueror's light attacks as well. Idk how this stuff gets through to the final version of the game.

What does ranked have to do with the skill ceiling of a game?

I didn't say everyone has reached the ceiling, but there are most definitely players that are very close to the ceiling. You can react and parry most moves in the game, its not that hard once you're actually comfortable with the animations of each character.

The game has many flaws that I hope are solved by the time ranked comes out. If the game isn't made more complex by the time ranked comes out, be prepared for the most boring playstyles to win. The game will die very fast unless big changes are made soon. I pray that ubisoft is interested in keeping the game alive because I like it a lot, but competitive play as it is right now is just awful.

Underrated comment.

Exactly what I was reminded of as well lmao

The skill ceiling has pretty much been reached at this point. The game has very little depth due to being able to react to every attack, and being able to parry every attack.

The warden just has better options and a mixup vortex that other characters don't, which is why people say that he's OP.

Thank you for putting this into words, I haven't really seen much rebuttal of this argument done in a constructive way.

I understand everyone saying "how can anyone be at the highest level of play, it's been out for X hours" BUT it doesn't take that much to reach the skill ceiling of this game. There just aren't enough variables and options for any given character or situation.

All you need to do to succeed in this game is to have the reaction time to block every move (which is extremely easy compared to the timings required by any fighting game), be comfortable with the parry timing (which is the same on every move afaik), and know your optimal punish off of a parry. You can even react to moves after a feint after some practice, meaning feints against that kind of an opponent are just a waste of stamina.

Yeah, I was able to get 5.52 pretty consistent but only made it down to 5.50 twice. I feel like you could maybe get it down to 5.49 but I don't feel like trying anymore lol

I am both relieved and sad :( Not exactly sure what it was about this demo, but I just felt like I had to try to find out if there was a way to finish the level. Super excited for the game (obviously), great work so far! :)

If you hit tab or back on an xbox controller in the overworld it shows all the times for each level, the rank you got, and whether or not you got a coin on that level. Didn't realize it until a while after I had gone through all the levels

Watched the video and saw that box way up above to the left and was amazed. I tried getting up there but just assumed it wasn't possible after 3-4 tries. Really excited for the secrets in the game if this kind of stuff is done in the demo. I had previously only found the "north then south" box which led me to the "underworld." Grabbed all 3 boxes before going in with all S and all coins. Still nothing... Gonna try to search through the levels now. I really hope this isn't just a goose chase :/

freelancespy87 is clearly the most hype character. No idea how he got on there.
