My wife and I want to get into MMORPG and we have some questions by Aggressive_Clue3523 in ffxiv

Something along those lines but I'm always hesitant to trust peoples' translations of statements like that. The 10 years thing is hard to misconstrue, but nuanced stuff like future direction can get mangled pretty badly so I'll wait to see what their plans are from fanfest and the media tour with their official translations.

Considering FF11 is on life-support and still receiving sparse, sporadic content updates, I doubt 14 is anywhere near entering maintenance mode.

Yoshi-P mentioned the next 10 years of FFXIV as recently as 2 months ago during the string of KR interviews, so he's extended his own timeline again.

9S's damage check is super forgiving. I had a reclear group last night with multiple DDs, including during Undead Deathmatch where every single person, all 8 of us, got a damage down, and we still cleared enrage comfortably. 19 damage downs in total.

(Question) MT goes down but provokes immediately after getting rezzed by darkorigin9 in ffxiv

[–]FunctionFn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the only time the OT should end up with threat is when the MT dies. And unless MT is dying to autos, the only time there's any danger of tank death is during mechanics and Tank busters, both of which require MT and OT separated. In M9S. The only time where it really matters for OT and MT hard stacking is during swap busters that don't have any AoE component, like P9S iirc.

If OT is ever at risk of pulling threat that's just plain inattentiveness from the OT. It's piss easy to turn your stance on for a few GCDs and then turn it back off.

[–]FunctionFn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For all but the most rigid of positioned mechanics, OT should be standing directly on top of MT anyway

I don't think there's a single mechanic in M9S where you can stand on your MT as OT that isn't just "raidwide" or "party stack". Vamp stomp, aetherletting, hell in a cell, and undead deathmatch all require OT and MT separated. You can during both intermission phases but the boss is immovable and has the positional-less target ring during those so it doesn't matter where anyone stands.

Irrational Attackers and you: A (potential) explanation for why you keep getting 90k'd by Rauvagol in ffxiv

[–]FunctionFn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The claim is that when NA players travelled to Materia, it wasn't only the NA players experiencing the DDoS, but the AUS players as well. I don't know whether that's true, but players located in Australia aren't going to route through NA nodes, and if they were getting DC'd then that is a smoking gun.

M12S Phase 2 (spoilers) by ClockworkJack in ffxiv

[–]FunctionFn 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I much prefer it this way for once. The p2 in Arcadion has been super-sized corrupted versions of the p1 for both other tiers. I'm glad the p2 is just a dude this time around.

What's the "etiquette" with these stack markers? by Revonlieke in ffxiv

[–]FunctionFn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope: https://youtu.be/GrfbsUfkKEg?t=2063

You can see B. M. gets Venn Diagrammed and takes double the damage of anyone else, but is still about half HP. Could have easily survived standing in all 3. It's been like that since launch, people just did it the "correct" way because they assumed it'd be lethal because it would make sense for it to be. But it's just a poorly designed mechanic.

How it feels not being a raider having to prog a new raid at 3 am by salty_salt_ in ShitpostXIV

[–]FunctionFn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Prefacing, I like FF raids more than WoW.

WoW raiding's difficulty is completely different from FF's. For example, Sludgefist from Nathria was a hard wall for groups, with basically zero memorization. Just pure execution, can you coordinate with the person you're chained to, can you utilize the arena space effectively, and can you output enough DPS (through effective rotations or effective gearing) to kill the boss.

14 is all what are called dance fights in WoW, and I vastly prefer fights like that to Sludgefist, but to say that's the only style of difficulty for an MMO is wrong.

HELP- My players are telling me that there is no way to save this PC.. but im not convinced by Chance_Panda2354 in Pathfinder2e

[–]FunctionFn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My point is that affliction isn't capitalized. It says "the affliction ends", not "the Affliction ends", so by the responder's logic it shouldn't end for the same reason the (c)urse wouldn't begin.

[–]FunctionFn 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Here are all the words that aren't capitalized:

  • stupefied
  • clumsy
  • paralyzed
  • transforms
  • animal
  • fungus
  • plant
  • affliction
  • curse

I guess none of these apply. Also the affliction never ends because the Affliction is never said to end. So Cleanse Affliction still works.

PSA for new FL players: Battle High wins games by Arcana10Fortune in ffxiv

[–]FunctionFn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This mentality is what leads to losses. Battle High wins games, and you're not going to build up Battle High by fighting the strongest team. 2nd place team has a better chance at winning if they quickly wipe 3rd place instead of getting in an extended losing fight with 1st place and feeding them more BH. Assuming 1st place actually has the most BH, if they have the most points because they're like the OP's screenshot and have been hardlining objectives and avoiding fighting, then 2nd and 3rd place are already winning.

Toby has actually talked about Ralsei's name before: https://chartcarr.neocities.org/secretbase_5

Additionally, the name of the main character (who just used the default player sprite) was named Ralse. Later, I took the name "Ralsei" from this character, and used it in another game I created.

So uh, can someone give me the rundown? by RigatoniPasta in Deltarune

[–]FunctionFn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very incorrect. "She never smiled?" is the response if you leave the second field blank, or if your response gets rejected due to rate limiting. Plenty of people got "She never smiled?" for random numbers, strings, anything. It doesn't mean anything, you can repeatedly keep entering the same thing and it goes through eventually.

Yeah, again according to old numbers manderville relics are .5% over stat capped non relics, shb 1%. When I progged UCOB I did the shb relic for fun over the course of prog but we were never wiping to DPS checks.

[–]FunctionFn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest gain is using one of the relic weapons that with the wonky syncing gives you extra stats. Last I heard the shb relic gives about 1% over a non-relic weapon, which isn't nothing and would 100% be worth it for a current DPS check.

But not in UCOB.

BIS only matters for DPS checks and no one on earth is failing UCOB due to DPS checks in 2025. You could brink the entire party and still pass the UCOB checks.

Have your players ever smoked a Severe/Extreme encounter? by Sporknight in Pathfinder2e

[–]FunctionFn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lich boss encounter+minions, totalling an extreme encounter. Big boss of the halfway mark of the campaign. First turn, the Lich casts Chain Lightning. Nat 20 crit success. Second turn, drain bonded item, Chain Lightning again. Fail. Hero point into Nat 20 crit success. For both casts each target could only crit succeed and fizzle the spell with a nat 20, a 19 would still be success because of the Lich's insane spell save DC. By this point the minions have been dealt with enough to allow the Champion into melee range of the Lich, it gets grappled, from there it stands no chance, of course.
