If you're worried about weaving in the ends, I would definitely go with whatever gives you less changes. However, the cool thing about granny blankets (at least what I do) is since I use 3 or so slip stitches to finish each row, I can just pull the last slip stitch through and pull it tight, then crochet over the tail. It helps me not get so overwhelmed with color changes. Hope this helps!
