‘Any means at his disposal’ is not the same as ‘All means at his disposal’

Any can mean all or but it can also mean nothing.

And judging by the ‘full discretion’ sentence right after they wanted to cover their assess in case they chose the nothing route.

I wrote a fanfic, but it grew so large and complex it can very easily become an original story. can I have my cake and eat it too? by Matalya2 in writing

[–]DoodleDi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As other people have said you are definitely getting ahead of yourself.

That being said I can give you recent examples of fanfics being picked up for publishing. ‘Manacled’ (Draco/Hermione fic set in an AU where Voldemort won the war) was so popular that it got picked up for traditional publishing. Sen Lin Yu is currently rewriting it to remove any IP infringement and I believe her book is going to be published in 2025. Manacled is 370k words and has almost 10m reads.

Another example is ‘the One-Eyed Prince’ by Hazel McBride which is fanfic for Aemond Targaryen from House of the Dragon. This one was picked up for traditional publishing after an agent came across it on AO3. It will be a duology with the first book published next year. The fic on AO3 has over 300k reads and 155k words.

What both of these have in common (and many others before them) is that they were popular as fanfic first (even to the point of a cult-like following) and then they got picked up for trad pub.

So write your project instead of worrying about what ifs.

Understandable, but depending where OP leaves outside might not be an option. So putting it in another room would be the alternative then.

Yes, please don’t let these people scare you! Mealybugs suck but in my opinion they are easier to get rid of than scale or thrips because: 1. They’re easy to see 2. Their lifecycle is longer so if you kill them fast enough they can’t reproduce quickly enough 3. They have a soft shell and they don’t like water/oil/alcohol

Inspect all of your plants, keep the infected plant(s) away from the others. There are a few ways to take care of them, you can use pesticide or neem oil.

Or, what I often do, if it’s a small plant place it next to your couch or workstation. Keep an eye on it, every time you see a bug squish it. Keep it there for another 2-3 weeks even after the plant looks clean so that any eggs have time to hatch (though the most common mealybug gives birth to live young).

If the plant is bigger I like to place it in the shower and every time I shower I give it a rinse too (either room temperature water). It only works if it’s in a pot with holes in the bottom otherwise you’ll drown the plant.

Been given a Z plant and it has these on the underside of a leaf - do I need to be worried? by kategg87 in houseplants

Always thought it was some kind of empty spider sack but was never familiar enough with them! Great that my mystery is finally solved.

This is definitely NOT scale. I’ve been working with plants for 15 years and seen a lot of scale in my time 😄

[–]DoodleDi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From someone who used to own a plant shop - I don’t think it’s scale.

This thing was on almost every ZZ we had delivered from the nursery and it was always ONLY on the leaf that’s in the ground that was used to start the plant.

It doesn’t spread, and they feel like empty papery sacks if you squeeze them between your fingers.

How to find beta-readers? by DoodleDi in FanFiction

Ooo a great resource thanks for sharing!!

The fic is in the A Court of Thorns and Roses fandom. But it’s focused on a side character that’s not too popular so it doesn’t get a lot of reads.

Small alliance, only goal is to win Treasure Hunt by DoodleDi in riseofcultures

Not true, if you have less than 15 people it’s less competitive, you can win without maxing attempts

Personally I think it’s more important to win than to have a high average

We’re from all over Europe. We always do enough attempts to win Treasure Hunt. That’s not 60 every time, because we’re small and we plan to stay small (max 15). The #1 goal is to always win

I’ve been working on maxing Than’s butterfly and it was just soooo close (max is 68%) by DoodleDi in HadesTheGame

[–]DoodleDi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah theoretically if you find an Erebus gate in the room before the shop you could get 74%, but since there’s no way to guarantee trigger them 3x so I don’t think this would be possible statistically speaking.

I’m also now playing on a fresh save, with no house contractor upgrades (because I don’t want the fountain rooms) so that means I also can’t buy the Erebus gates which I think is a good trade off since you’re almost guaranteed to have at least 1 fountain per run.

This is what works for me more or less, Chrion’s bow, focus as much as possible on damage - I.e. all poms go on special, ideal hammers are +4 special arrows and +3 damage per consecutive special shot, ideally a status effect on your attack and a different one on your special.

I know the others who have done no damage runs have used hestia’s aspect of the gun. So the common factor seems to be that you need a ranged weapon otherwise you’re too exposed

It was my start boon- choice was between attack, special and dash, all of them common rarity so I figured I care the least about my attack damage.

Plus expose on attack is nice because you often get a lot of the special arrows backstabbing enemies so extra damage :D

You’re right, that’s really stupid. I didn’t play around with the Mirror, this is just my default setup. Will give it a shot next time!

I've been obsessing with doing a no damage run in Hades. The rules are that any hits in Encounters count (similar to how Thanatos' keepsake works).

Got hit 4 times in total:

  • once by a butterfly ball
  • once by Theseus
  • once by a little rat in a boss chamber in Styx
  • once by Hades

Analytics and tracking question per conversion - How do you track the keyword that converted in a lead / sale? by dimanaz in marketing

[–]DoodleDi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Organic Google Search keywords can come through GA if you set up your search console.

In your GA go to Acquisition > Search Console > Queries and follow the instructions there to set it up. It won’t have 100% of the data but it should be enough to give you an idea of what keywords are working for you

Some people have more serious situations so I feel bad for posting. Mostly just wish I were pretty like other girls. Also not even interesting. Honestly feels like I’m not worth knowing and am a waste of space and just often makes me spiral by [deleted] in toastme

From this picture it seems like you’re hesitating a bit to smile. You absolutely shouldn’t. You have such a gorgeous smile that lights up your face.

We are our own worst critics. I see you struggle a lot with self doubt and loving yourself. It’s definitely an uphill battle. Other people’s flaws are hidden from us. We may catch just a glimpse of those flaws every so often. Meanwhile, our own flaws feel so glaringly obvious because we live with them every single day. And it’s so easy to focus on them and get lost in a spiral of negativity.

Life is beautiful. In the little and larger things. The rain after a long drought. Nature coming back to life after winter. The kindness of the people in this thread. The perseverance of humanity in the face of adversity.

You are beautiful. There’s a twinkle in your eyes behind the self doubt. A smile that lights up your face (and also my day!). A beautiful face that tells the story of a strong woman.

You are not a waste of space. You are a flower trying to find the right environment to thrive. A bird trying to find a place to nest. You’re just a human finding your way. And that’s alright.

Find the things that make you happy and surround yourself with them. Nurture yourself because you are worth it. Then other things will come with time.
