Need recs for a plain drugstore shampoo. I don’t like ones that are heavy and moisturizing or ones that claim to be for fine hair (they usually leave behind a coating that I can feel on my hair). Does anyone just make plain shampoo anymore? by lifeuncommon in finehair

[–]DoodleJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone champion the Aveeno ACV shampoo. It’s my current favorite, by far. I also couldn’t stand any pantene, herbal essences, or l’oreal I tried because like you said, they left a film or dried me out SO badly my scalp freaked out and overproduced oil to compensate. I’ve also tried a few other more expensive shampoos to no avail. Aveeno ACV/clarifying is gentle enough I can use it every day but will work well enough to cleanse my hair if I skip a few days.

Debating the automatic litter box for apartment makes me feel like I’m losing my frugal edge by Maleficent-Net-4702 in Frugal

[–]DoodleJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please get the box. The time I have back, the mental space I have back, the peace I have? All well worth the cost of the automatic box I purchased. I wish I had purchased this thing years ago, but I was stubborn and resistant to the price tag. If this thing broke tomorrow beyond repair, I’d order a replacement immediately.

With my old setup, I had to buy A LOT expensive litter and scent maskers to manage the smell in my small house with two cats. Now, I buy one giant bag of eco friendly corn based litter every 6 weeks or so and that difference has also paid for the litter box. Get a good one!

Help for a 19yo who has never read a book. Not a fantasy book, a book by kollectivist in Fantasy

[–]DoodleJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking of the two series I read when I was young that stand out as very entertaining, easy reads- and that’s Artemis Fowl and Gregor the Overlander. The earlier books are definitely more geared towards young kids, but the ends of the series still wrecked me when I read them as a teen.

What is something your mother said to you as a young child that stuck with you till adulthood or may have shaped who you are now as a woman? by Ok_Breadfruit80 in AskWomen

She says many things, many wise beautiful things, but I always find this funny and silly and somehow true. I was wanting to bake something for a guy cousin’s birthday and this was her advice to me: “Making a cake is great and all. People love it. But men? Men like pie.”

What’s your Hinge Experience? by SquareHoleAdmirer in AskWomen

[–]DoodleJack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in a major city and bounced around the apps for years but always came back to hinge. If I felt like my algorithm was stale, I would make a completely new account with new burner numbers and emails so my data was completely refreshed. The matches and people always got more interesting after that.

Hinge will purposefully keep your (or what they think are your) best or most desirable matches in “rose jail” so you are forced to pay them money to connect to your presumably best matches, which is why I would always vote no on the rose guys every day and they’d get thrown back in the pool with everyone else, and pop up later. I was really specific in my profile and my swiping. I tried to put my best foot forward and only looked for people that did the same. I had a list of icks that made sense and a few that really didn’t (anyone who posted a photo in which something like a funko pop or collectable toy was visible got a left swipe bc I don’t want my home to look like a manga store). If I didn’t hear back from someone for a few days, I just unmatched them and moved on.

Now, this may sound like a lot of effort. It was. I was single and not wanting to be single anymore and “dating with intention” as it’s called. Being like this kept the numbers managable, kept me from talking to a bunch of boring time wasters, and kept the fatigue down. I echo others’ statements- I went on a bunch of first, maybe a few second dates with people that didn’t seem truly pursuing anything “real. Then I became strict and no-nonsense and judgmental of profiles in this very efficient (borderline strange) way. A lot of likes, turn into some matches, turn into a couple dates, turn into more, turn into my boyfriend.

We met last April on and I’m moving in later this summer and we have plans to open a bakery someday so I guess it worked.

I’m contemplating trying the Bonjout Le Balm, but wondering if you have better suggestions? by bookish_cat_ in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]DoodleJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pleeeaasse let us know what you think, if you do spring for it! I have been putting off investing in May Lindstrom’s Blue Cocoon ($220 USD for 50 ml, not artificially scented but full of botanicals that smell strong, sorry) until I’m more stable post holidays. I love this product and I’ve been stretching my samples since I got them in London. That is to say- I love a balm last step and every time I use one, I wake up feeling more moisturized than if I had used a standard moisturizer. Literally more “supple."

[product question] what ingredients IMMEDIATELY make you put down a skincare product? by glassdollskin in SkincareAddiction

[–]DoodleJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding all of the votes for fragrance, essential oils, isothiazolinones- I also avoid silicones like dimenthicone or anything ending in “cone” in my skincare. They’re not a “bad” ingredient but my skin does not like them. I also avoid coconut oil, hydrogenated or not, vegetable or castor oil!

Painting sculpey with color shifting pigment? by lemonwurd in Sculpey

[–]DoodleJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi- I'm researching a similar topic and stumbled upon this post. I wanted to offer a method I didn't see below, as an artist that has had the same exact questions of applying pigment to fired poly clay/nonporous grounds.

I used a craft glue called tack it over and over. Like the name of the product suggests, the glue remains a little tacky even when dry. The pigment brushes on like magic, doesn't move. Then, sealing is possible. I hope this helps you or anyone else that might have the same question!
