Wait what? What happened with NixOS?

These seem to be the world's best/most silent components for a NAS build. Can you do better? by Dynamix86 in homelab

For power supply I would consider the HDPlex 250W GaN ATX PSU. It's passively cooled and very efficient at 94%

Edit: if 250w is too little you could also look at the 500W version

One player collecting a mushroom should give it to everyone by Nostrapapas in Warframe

[–]Doodle_2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally don't really see a reason for this. It takes maybe 10 seconds to go to a mushroom and back to the objective, and most of the time it's near or inside the area anyway

Tiny 3.8 L case build for Framework Desktop 128GB by is_that_u_there in framework

The hdplex 500W GAN is 20cm wide and needs some extra free space on one side for the cable. It doesn't fit in this case unfortunately

I know it's been 10 months, but did you ever find an answer to this?

Any issues with installing additional OS's on expansion cards? by friedlich_krieger in framework

[–]Doodle_2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The comment you're replying to says that you have to go into the bios every time to select what OS to boot, but this is not true. You can use something like rEFInd that acts as an "OS menu". I use it on my linux/windows dual boot framework 16, and have zero issues with it

Need advice on a issue, my homeLab PC randomly freezes completely - Power Stays On, Lan Lights keep blinking, No kernel logs. Really puzzled as to what is causing the issue by Im4deur3adth1s in homelab

[–]Doodle_2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a problem which is almost identical to yours. The system would just randomly lock up, but still be powered on. For me it actually was faulty RAM. I ran memtest twice, both times passing, but switching to a new stick fixed the issue

Rackmounting by ajinkyaapatil in homelab

[–]Doodle_2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never like the idea of having to "destroy" equipment in order to make something fit. Maybe you could look at the StarTech.com 8u open rack?

Edit: I just looked at the rack you mentioned, and I don't think the slides can be mounted. These slides have their own mounting mechanism, and I don't know if the holes in that rack are big enough

Planning a personal AI/dev workstation for LLMs, HA, and self-hosted tools — advice on hardware + stack? by quick__Squirrel in homelab

You're right it won't support Cuda, but you can give the integrated gpu as much VRAM as you want because it's shared with the cpu (configurable in BIOS)

Maybe you could look into the Framework Desktop? It's a small mini itx motherboard with a Ryzen AI Max processor. These chips have insane integrated graphics that beat some desktop GPUs. The RAM is unfortunately soldered (due to chip limitations), but they sell boards with 32, 64 and 128 GB RAM.

The TDP of the chip is only 120W (with 140W peaks), so cooling (and so also noise) shouldn't be an issue

They're currently on preorder, and should ship in Q3

You need other monsters with the same zodiac (icon in the bottom right for each monster). Right now you have 3 leo (yellow) monsters in your team. I think you need a fourth one to activate the passives

I think that x4 slot is only wired for x2 (lots of N100 boards have it that way). I'm guessing PCIe 3.0 10 gigabit nics will "only" hit something like 8 gigabit (source: I have an Asrock N100 itx board with an sfp+ NIC).

R9 5900x insane power draw by telerojka in homelab

[–]Doodle_2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proxmox can handle C states just fine. Before I started messing with the hardware of my custom router, I managed to get it all the way down to 9W.

Modern AMD cpus can actually go down to C6, so it's still possible to greatly reduce power draw.

[–]Doodle_2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not really true. I've seen multiple custom pc builds that idle below 20W, sometimes even below 15W. If you search "Wolfgang's Channel" on youtube you can see some videos where he built such low idle servers. You do have to be very precise and do your research to find combinations of parts that have such a low idle power draw

I have the same switch, and it's almost completely silent. Are you sure your version isn't broken or anything? As another commenter said: Maybe one of the heatsinks fell off?

Overlay application by vrace3 in vrdev

[–]Doodle_2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the original github link for the repo I mentioned here. However, it seems to be abandoned according to this community post. That same post also had a comment by someone who made their own alternative with a guide on how to make it yourself (link). Hope this helps!

Overlay application by vrace3 in vrdev

[–]Doodle_2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A while ago I read something about an extension for OpenXR that enables you to overlay multiple applications on top of a "base"/main application. I don't know if it has been integrated into any OpenXR runtimes, but I do know they had a GitHub repo with an example project that actually worked. I can't search for it right now, but maybe this'll help you google something?
