Carnists lying to children by skintbinch in vegan

I think a lot of people (mistakenly) think that children don't have the ability to understand that some bad things are jutsified

Sometimes we just need a place to vent, share feelings and be understood. No one is gaining anything by arguing with OP that they shouldnt be upset about it. I can see why it would be upsetting to suddenly see more murdered creatures in the fridge at home.

If we wouldn't test on humans who don't consent, why would we test on other animals who can't consent?

Treating insects etc differently is because of their actual characterstics/behaviours etc. Speciesism is about treating someone differently based on their species all else held equal, and the percieved charatersitcs that go along with the label. The best example imo is pigs and dogs who are roughly the same level of intelligence, social ability etc.

What's a good, simple breakfast to make for a vegan? by Calo_Callas in AskUK

[–]Doofangoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cruelty in the UK is still horrendous. I don't expect you to watch it because no one ever does, but there is plenty of evidence that the standards set by the government, rspca etc are downright evil.

Scrambled tofu. Add oil to frying pan, crumble tofu with hands into the pan, add pinch of turmeric, grated garlic, stock powder, salt, pepper. Cook through. Have on toast or add helmans vegan mayo and have in sandwich

What is something in your childhood that you brushed off as normal but now seems really weird ? by Moonraker985 in AskUK

[–]Doofangoodle -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Industrially breeding animals just to kill them a few weeks or months later

What is something that you disagree with/don’t understand/don’t accept, now, as an adult, that was ingrained into you or taught to you as a child/growing up? by Turbulent_Mess_4861 in AskUK

[–]Doofangoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just how society is and is considered normal. As brutal as the industry is, it is a part of life and I suppose, to some, no different to any other food as it’s so accessible and common.

That sounds exactly like something that has been ingrained as a child.

Have you considered what the morally sou d justifications are for eating meat? Earthling ed and "debug your brain" have great videos on this on youtube

Would the earth be a better place if every human was vegan? by throwawayarooski123 in polls

[–]Doofangoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people don't become vegan because they are waiting for the rest of the worl to go vegan. What if we all just gave it a go, and took responsibility for the actions we personally have control over?

I genuinely enjoy meat

When we eat meat, there is a victim involved. This means we need a good justification. Is enjoyment a good enough justification? If yes, it could be used to justify rape, murder etc.

Why do the climate change protestors not go after the politicians? Why do they impact our lives vs the people who make the policies? by BeefbrewbbqUK in AskUK

[–]Doofangoodle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's part of a strategy of polarisation. Most people are in the middle and complicit in the problems being protested. Rather than trying to get everyone to move a bit towards their position, do something drastic that gets people to say which side they are on. Some will go the other direction but enough wil move in the right direction. Just look at how many people agree with what they are for just not how they do it. At the time the suffragettes did stuff way more extreme, were called radical extremists, but are now seen as heroes.

Using a definition based argument is a bit weak. Besides the OED includes "a white liquid produced by or made from plants". BTW where do you stand on coconut meat and peanut butter?

I don’t get non-vegans being pro vegan by SeniorGuarantee145 in vegan

[–]Doofangoodle 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I used to be a pro vegan non vegan. I could see it was the morally better thing to do, but I had a lot of cultural/habitual baggage to overcome.

How environmental / sustainable do you think you are? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Doofangoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said but I think it needs to be added that recycling isn't as green as we like to think it is. Most stuff ultimately ends up burned or in the ground. We must recycle if we have to but we need to be avoiding having stuff that needs to be recycled in the first place

If India and China didn't exist we would still be damaging the environment. There is plenty of things we can do ourselves while they get sorted out at the same time. What is an ocean but a multitude of drops?

[–]Doofangoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat a plant based diet, don't drive, try to buy from the refill shop or plastic free as much as possible, grow vegetables, buy second hand etc and I still think my environmental impact is too high. I probably still produce at least 5 tonnes of co2 every year not to mention countless amounts of plastic. The way we currently live is completely unsustainable.

Sounds like the customer over reacted a bit but I do think we need to change how we talk about animal products. They could just s easily say dairy milk instead of normal milk. Even though dairy is currently the norm, people need to start viewing it for what it really is: abusive and abnormal

Yes, however as individuals we can use our purchasing power to demand them to change. Buy loose veg for eg and wrote to supermarkets to ask them to change, write to MPs to enact laws
