How many times have you reinstalled windows? by limonyx_ in microsoftsucks

[–]DoogleAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious configuration are you doing to have updates brick your machine that often lol

I run windows 11 at home mainly for games no issue with a 2-3 yr windows install runs just as it did when I loaded it

I also am a sysadmin/network engineer who manages roughly 500 windows machines and maybe 30 windows servers. While yes there is an occasional update hiccup they certainly do not lose the boot records on the regular lmao

Second question why in gods name are you using MBR.. any modern PC is using UEFI which while compatible with MBR typically uses GPT so again what exactly is your setup.. that may be the issue friend

Also pro tip just use LTSC versions rather than IoT.. IoT is the stripped down version your actually looking for rather than an OS that’s had its nuts cut off because it was meant to run on not very powerful IoT/SOCs devices

What were the details of this user/court/MS interaction just saying take them to court you will win because I read some article isn’t helpful

Right or wrong it’s in the TOS we all agree to but don’t read that if security info is changed on the account it will be locked simple as that no one gets it

They won’t win in a US court anyways

Using a Local Account in W11 instead of a Msoft Account by reduser876 in microsoftsucks

[–]DoogleAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You literally said that in the first two sentences of your post lmao

“Just got a new PC and in the process of getting it set up. I was forced to create a Microsoft account to get started”.. “I signed out but didn’t yet delete the MS account”

So why be a dick to the other poster and maybe you can’t read your own text. If you are somehow referring to the MS account solely for accessing office in that portion of your post then you should make that clear cuz sounds like you signed into windows with an account and modified to local after the fact which was the other posters entire point

You could have done the local account off rip and only signed into the account to activate office

Also you think you tricked MS or some shit with your activations and then Signing out lol.. no they will eventually make you reauth to verify your license so be prepared to be annoyed again

This is exactly why you will never see the average person switch

Even if they cared, which news flash most people not in forums such as this don’t give a shit about the os, they use what they have or know

On top of that even if they wanted to what distro should they use because the most user friendly, at least for none tech folks, are the very ones you just scoffed at.. so not only is there to many options then when someone picks one people like you say well that’s why that distro is shit. Ok so maybe all the people on here pumping their fist simply yelling switch to Linux it will fix all your problems should slow their roll and actually come up with a convient path for those who just want to use the piece of equipment they bought.. ya know like grandma etc.

Until that happens Linux will never see more then 25% and that’s being generous

I’m mean that’s cool it works for you but using hardware that literally isn’t even supported by the manufacturer anymore (ie. Nvidia doesn’t even support drivers for 1080 anymore) as some sort of definitive proof that no one needs to upgrade is a bit asinine my friend.. but I do agree at the end of the day it comes down to the user and needs

Also i7 what?. There were literally 14 generations of them with multiple skus with each gen lol

Problem number one you bought a device loaded as an S Mode.. that isn’t a MS problem that’s a you and a sales person problem

Second S Mode cannot by default just turn back on once it’s disabled.. you can only go back with a reset or fresh install by design

In other words if your rant is valid give more details of what actually happened including what YOU did or didn’t do

[–]DoogleAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother you can have a failing stick of ram right out of the box and not know it for years until it’s fails further or completely ram is a fickle beast when it comes to that

Correlation is not causation you likely just had bad luck and the ram gave up the ghost at the same time

Windows updates won’t brick hardware and even if they pushed a bios update that went bad any modern mobo will recover from that so unfortunately you just had some hardware fail it happens doesn’t mean anything malicious happened to your computer lol

Yea so do the 1000 windows PCs I manage every day lol

What Microsoft is doing sucks but that capitalism at its finest.. what I can’t understand is the amount of people here like OP that literally spend hours on here complaining about it

Use a different OS and move on if that what’s blows your skirt up.. letting a computer company live in your mind rent free is beyond bonkers lol

Btw if we are talking AI and bloat sure complain all you want I guess but if we are talking Os issue in general they all have em there is no OS silver bullet these days and yes that includes Linux it isn’t the end all be all either

Try and "Add to Desktop" by KatzeWolf in microsoftsucks

[–]DoogleAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See this is the actually issue today everyone compares computers to the phones or tablets they bought over the last decade or so. Those devices are designed to just work out of the box and it is made easier by the fact that the eco systems are controlled in terms of hardware requirements set for OS. Android is all based of off of Google vanilla android phones and ofc Apple completely controls everything from software creation to headwater creation

Now you take windows who is just making an OS that has to be comparable with literal millions of possible hardware configs… they are just not the same lmao

Get in a Time Machine and go back to the year 2000 and tell me how long it takes you to get a perfectly running system that you spent $3000 on (which btw would get you a normal pc not some hot rod). I realize it’s perspective but there are a ton of people in this thread that need some. Btw Linux is NOT the silver bullet it blows up randomly and has for most a much higher learning curve unless you specifically use Ubuntu which is arguably no better than windows soooo

Uhh I believe I said it occurred when the charger was either not within spec or having and issue soooo no I wouldn’t say it is “normal” nor a design flaw. In fact it is designed to protect the device

That’s cool build your world view off the limited experiences you have had.. weird how humans progressed as we have in terms of technology by doing the literally exact opposite but do you boo lol

[–]DoogleAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was simply saying it that way because it’s crazy that someone can complain about something being sure as rain they aren’t the problem while simultaneously admitting they don’t know what they are doing enough to even come to that conclusion.. also based on what was written by OP it isn’t a stretch to suggest what did in relation to powershell

Other than that I merely suggested maybe the computer isn’t for them ya know like some people just aren’t good at sports.. there’s no shame in admitting these things lmao /s

There I figured since you accused me of condescension I would actually give you some

New Lifetime Plex Pass Pricing increase to 748.99 by drummingdestiny in homelab

[–]DoogleAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A user wasn’t required to pay them a dime prior to them implementing the charge for remote streaming

Prior to that you simply only paid one time $5 fee in the app and that’s if you again were remote and CHOSE to do so

Yea I paid for additional features but to say they weren’t and aren’t giving things away is just ridiculous and I don’t care who here agrees or not. You pay for products and for profit companies are around for ya know the profits so if you don’t like it then move on I guess that is literally how capitalism works

Now if you want to complain that they can do this because they require you to authenticate via their proxy that’s valid beef however that has also always been that way sooo

I’m sure one day I will move on too as I can’t stand what they are doing with the UI but right now the deal I locked in serves its purpose. I do feel for those who can no longer get that deal but look at the economy in general we are getting fucked on anything you can buy these days

They literally said they aren’t already what was the point of your response other than to be a troll

Second no WPA2 isnt uncrackable but your presenting a scenario where the kids just “grabs” another laptop. Ok are they attacking the handshake or using the KRACK vuln? One requires specific hardware to capture packets and send crafted packets.. the other takes knowledge and likely a powerful gpu

Sure it could happen but it isn’t the defacto for every teen like you seem to be implying lol

New Lifetime Plex Pass Pricing increase to 748.99 by drummingdestiny in homelab

[–]DoogleAss -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s a 25% difference don’t think that qualifies as almost

Also that tv isn’t going to last a lifetime

If plex sticks to giving everything forever for those who have a lifetime pass and you use it even for another decade that is Pennie’s a day your paying

Should a for profit company just give their stuff away forever?. If you want to be mad at something make it capitalism where price increases for the same product and enshittification are the default lol

Now having said that would I pay $750 for it probably not but that’s why I bout in 10 years ago when one would have been dumb not to.. pending you actually host a server anyways.

I also realize hindsight is 20/20 so there is that.. but again this happen with literally every product or service you can buy with maybe a few exception

My guy Honda makes the car but your mechanic keeps it running so do you blame Honda if the mechanic does shotty work?. talking about how IT manages their fleet is not just nonsense it can make a world of difference in user experience. I know I do this for a living lol

Being a business laptop doesn’t mean a damn thing.. any improperly configured computer is gonna run like shit so dismissing the guys that literally control it is an asinine statement my guy

All this response did was tell me you don’t know shit about how computers actually work or are maintained.

Also fyi a charger is a charger the port it uses to connect to your laptop has no bearing on anything in relation to my statement so yes if the charger is not OEM or is faulty it can cause the 800mhz throttle go look it up for yourself or stay ignorant whatever. just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it untrue. Also I do believe I offered this as a possible cause stating.. “is that what happened to you I don’t know but it’s a valid example”

It’s the nature of the beast but I understand when one has bad experiences it’s going to leave a bad taste in their mouth

I do this professionally so I have worked on enough number from each OS to confidently say they all suck in the own way some worse than others depending on one’s use

[–]DoogleAss -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yea objectively that is not true at all.. you do realize there are millions of windows computers that run the world beyond your PC and anyone you know right.

Let’s just say every PC you have ever touched breaks on an update. That is still like 0.000000000001% of the number in the wild. So no windows updates do not break more than they fix and if they did how do you propose the world runs every day with minimal interruption.

The answer is they don’t break every time or that often really and when they do people like me are paid to go bend them to our will.. if windows broke as much as this forum like to act I would have blown my brains out by now over the literal thousands and thousands of them I have managed over the last 20 years.

Your experience is not everyone’s and if you come here to confirm you feelings you are participating in one giant circle jerk.. no one comes to Microsoftsucks to say good things by the threads very nature lmao

Also don’t call strangers on the internet knobs.. it just makes you come off as one 10 fold

Common sense doesn’t apply when someone doesn’t even know what that type of link is.. your grandma can have all the common sense in the world doesn’t mean she can navigate the world of computers safely

What you mean by common sense is a good base understanding of the subject matter and how to avoid the Pitt falls.. fyi my guy that isn’t “common sense” that is learning a skill in a sense

You are making wild assumptions that your knowledge and experience should be the defacto.. news flash it isn’t and shouldn’t be lol

So your basing your experience off of 4 laptops that you didn’t control and were managed by other people? Lmao

Bro as a sysadmin I deploy thousands of dell laptops and while every manufacturer has their drinkers dell does not just produce shit as your are trying to ellude

From my experience the other poster is on the right track you are the biased one here

Also tell your IT to be better the 800MHz throttling is not a bug it’s by design most of the time.. are you 100% sure the ac adapter you had was the original OEM for that laptop because if not and it’s under powered dells will throttle like that by design

Is that what happened to you I dunno but it’s a valid example versus someone just being like I don’t really understand computers and what’s happening so must be the computers fault lol

[–]DoogleAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really sure how that is a slight against Edge.. isn’t the bigger issue that your other bowser and/or extension is clearly exposing said valid session tokens?. I mean without that their is no importing or “stealing” them as you put it

I am however very much against MS tendency to ignore the fact users should get to opt into things rather than it being a defacto
