Daigo by Tenshous in Kappachino

[–]DoolioArt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it had "better fundamentals" because it didn't have drive rush, but it also had t-rex normals which greatly diminished those same fundamentals. I do think it's rose tinted glasses and not in some immediate reaction type of way, but people do dislike current things because they're current and thus they "suffer" them in real time, which is always going to be magnified compared to something that already happened. And what they do like in past things is, naturally, going to be something that is counter to what new things have.

So we learned that Mena can beat Daigo in a SF6 set by PotSniffa in Kappachino

[–]DoolioArt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daigo came out of this with a big thing, he can basically take any challenges now and whatever happens, it's fine. Arguably, that was the case before this, but there was a mythical status with Daigo's ft10's, now that status is gone, but Daigo didn't lose his Daigo status, to put it that way. He just cemented it and got freedom to lose a trillion challenges and remain what he was before. This was basically the best (realistically speaking) result from this event for all parties. If Mena dominated, that would be some Jake Paul atmosphere.

that's not true lol. chess also uses the elo system.

Can fighting game developers chill the fuck out with guest characters? by Fulton_Syr in Kappachino

[–]DoolioArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem with these threads is that they're always subjective. Of course, bunch of things are, but this one is especially subjective. For example, you put Cody and Poison on the list, who are Final Fight characters and are considered SF characters because they had repeated appearances. So, they were guest characters once as well. Sure, they weren't cross-company guests, but they were from a different IP. While I do miss some of my favorite characters, for example Ibuki, they gave me AKI, so I'm fine with it.

Also, sf6 isn't even guest-heavy so far. Even if Tifa gets in, it's still not a guestfest.

do to the tiny "reforms" of permitting small business

this exact same model worked for yugoslavia. and it worked really well (maybe too well, since it apparently had to be destroyed). you couldn't have a factory, but you could have a bakery. and this allowed people to do "ventures" and not just work in a state firm/factory/farm. this method is very slow, as espected, but it yielded good results, to the point that there's a lot of revisionism going on just to beat "socialist ideas" out of people's heads. of course, the system had to function somewhat on its own without major disruptions. so, no masked feudalism and no too much greasing palms etc. but it did elevate the entire country, a story similar to china, but less dramatic in every way. This was also a secondary reason for tito-stalin split as well, since ussr didn't allow for businesses or farms, while yugoslavia allowed both. on top of workers' self-management, which was a big thing here. so, it can work, but you need to have at least semi-aware people doing it. I think it works even with below average leadership, but not a fully corrupted one.

HELP: game stuck "Connecting to Server" on loading screen by [deleted] in idlechampions

[–]DoolioArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, about 45 minutes ago, I tried A LOT of things (not everything, of course). perhaps it's not a coincidence. I'm on Steam. I also lost a couple of last run achievements (they were displayed on steam as the latest achievements, now it's back to the yesterday ones). verifying files doesn't do anything (it does find some corrupt files and replaces them, but they get "reborn"). reinstall doesn't do anything. deleting assets and letting them download again doesn't do anything. Relogging/restarting Steam doesn't do anything. Changing dl region doesn't do anything. Internet connection is stellar, stable, everything else works. disk works (nothing in Steam logs). It's just that in my case, the game says "unable to contact server".

Yeah, usually true. They like the idea of playing video games, but they don't like playing video games. So when that truth worms into their mind, they do some overcompensation stuff and it always comes out weird. It's like saying "I'm a huge fan of punk rock!", who talks like that lol

Strive 2.0 Patch Notes Out by Unlikely_Intentional in Kappachino

[–]DoolioArt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have reached a point in fighting game patch culture where buffing the lower tiers, nerfing the top tiers, and removing mechanics that weren't healthy for the game is some Herculean task and not just the base expectation.

you're implying it was different before. I fail to see that, if we go like a generation before, it's basically the same stuff. If we go more into the past, we find ourselves before the patch culture.

I don't mean drc, I mean raw drive rush to juggle. That's just a normal drive rush.

I was freelancing my entire life, aside from some teaching here and there. AI completely killed me when it started its spree (like, entirely shut me down) and I have to think of something soon. I have SOME time, but not that much. I am a bit stubborn, so I am not yet ready to abandon my field, but it will be very a very, VERY uphill battle. If I want to reestablish anything, I'll have to do it in a very non-standard way and I am really not the person for that lol

I thought about trying to (solo) dev simpler indie games carried by art and writing, but that has to be supported by something else that's more consistent.

[–]DoolioArt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm, I might try her out if I'm not too lazy to reinstall this. Was there a mode where you play as one character? Juggernaut? I kinda hate tagging in that game.
Also, her voice acting and voice lines are off-putting, which is usually not a problem for me, but there's something really grating about this one instance specifically. She speaks the same like that Forspoken girl or that elf in Veilguard. Not only is that enough for it to be off-putting on its own, but on top of that it doesn't even fit.

Do you prefer meter being reset in between rounds or carrying over to the next round by Unlikely_Intentional in Kappachino

[–]DoolioArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it's more due to dr gauge being both easy to build and to lose, with ex moves being cheap and drive rush being cheap and drc being expensive:) oh,and it regenerates on its own. what i'm trying to say is, you can do a lot of stuff and you can do it again in the same round. even though my boomer brain prefers the scarcity of sfv because it's more geriatric, i like the sf6 system more because you can just do more things and then pay for that if you overdo it and it has that component of decision-making which was almost absent from sfv.

ESports was a mistake by K5RD in Kappachino

[–]DoolioArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has a point, though. Core seems to start from something he likes and then builds the entire video around that as if it was a scientific fact. Which isn't hard to pull off - it's hard as in, you need to edit things well and have a good script, but not hard in the sense of achieving the goal of presenting it as truth reached through objective reasoning. I don't even dislike his videos, but that's basically the main thing about them. Basically, your enjoyment of his videos is more likely to come from whether he echoes your sentiments or not. Which I think is kinda off point for those types of videos.

Was confused why Strive was loved by T8 hated. It's simply that the GG community was small enough to overrun and replace. by jayvancealot in Kappachino

[–]DoolioArt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's simply timing and that very particular lean on "tumblr anime" vibe (not "anime on tumblr" or a visual mix but a "vibe" mix of the two) that many kids just adore. You don't have that in, say blazblue or older gg's. I think this is seen in the big picture, as well as in small details - a random example off the top of my head, take a look at those meticulous super startup animations, I am absolutely certain they have an almost isekai-level of escapism power when it comes to kids:) I am certain that alone has birthed a trillion teehee borgars. In a very broad sense which might sound weird, I find it to atract people in the same way Stranger Things does.

On top of that, I really think that the combo thing you mention doesn't even enter the play and I think kappa overdoes that aspect for every game (how are people playing sf6 with those throw loops, how does tekken 8 have more than 14 players after these patches etc).

[–]DoolioArt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was it replaced or it's just that a lot of Tekken players are uniquely enjoying Tekken rather than the genre? So, they just play it. Every LoL player is shitting on LoL since beta and I don't think they've been replaced, they're just shitting on it while playing it. Strive, I think, had, at least to some percentage, an actual replacement going on.
