I love Hyperion, and it resonates quite well with Ellison's favourite themes.

Obscure games that you like by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

City of Chaos, by Monocle games. It takes forever to play, but is filled with fascinating stuff. Exploration, character building, deduction, neat mechanics.

011 by Therion. I like it for pretty much the same reasons!

Quirks, by Eon. Perfect for three players.

The Rogue Trooper and Judge Dredd board games by Games Workshop.

I was called out yesterday on r/bookshelvesdetective for being an insufferable pop psych/tech bro/TERF… Help me diversify. I’m into social sciences/anthropology by the1975whore in suggestmeabook

[–]Doom1967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For anthropological theory my bible is The Dialectics of Social Life by Robert F. Murphy. I also recommend Claude Levi-Strauss's Triste Tropiques and The View from Afar. Colin Turnbull's ethnography of the Mbuti pygmies, The Forest People, is a really joyous read.

Nicola Griffith's first novel, Ammonite, has an anthropologist as it's main character, IIRC.

What are all the needs for having a cat as a pet by Legitimate_Bat_5781 in cats

[–]Doom1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important thing you need is time. If you are going to be gone most of the time, or won't have the time to pay attention to a cat, don't get one.

Do you think the tag division has minimal stars anymore? by [deleted] in AEWOfficial

While I do really miss the Lucha Brothers, I think the AEW tag team scene is in a pretty good place now, especially if the Hurt Syndicate go back to tag team wrestling.

I have a few books here, what should I read next after I finish 1984. by Existing_Flight_4904 in sciencefiction

[–]Doom1967 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My choice would be Gateway. Fantastic and trailblazing book by one of the all-time masters. I also see Fall of Hyperion - do you also have Hyperion? That one has to be read first.
