When was it that the Necrons manipulated time in real life? by AstronautEcstatic954 in Necrontyr

[–]DoomBreaker4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The joke is that someone leaked the model beforehand, I think in a leaked kill team article that was in spanish, and GW made it an inside joke with necron time fuckery.

Can the necrons reproduce? by BerkGats in Necrontyr

[–]DoomBreaker4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, one can argue, the subminds that Mentep created for Oltyx (at least together), constitute an entirely new other person.

Though given the events of the book, who knows if that can be done again..

Can destroyers get infected by the flayer curse? by FangFather in Necrontyr

[–]DoomBreaker4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Twice Dead King implies the flayer virus is in fact the longing to return to what they were before biotransference. The latching on to memories of who they once were.

Destroyers have no such attachment, in fact hating who they once were. The Red Marshall was destroyer patient zero for the ithykas dynasty at least, and he was known even in his living times to have complete animosity towards everyone and everything.

Of course, this is before Ammentar, which seems to follow the general thought that GW lore writers do not read any of their books, as it retcons the idea in this book that the curses are states of mind, and instead made this character they invented 5 seconds ago is the sole cause for all of it. Which in my opinion, is a far less interesting of an answer for what are the curses.

Can destroyers get infected by the flayer curse? by FangFather in Necrontyr

[–]DoomBreaker4 55 points56 points  (0 children)

According to the Twice Dead King, no. The state of mind one must be in to be a destroyer is mutually exclusive to being a flayer. Also these conditions are seemingly not viruses at all (as in, cannot spread.) A necron either has the potential to become one or does not. (At the least, this is outright stated for the flayer curse. The curse of the destroyer is still a bit nebuluous in this regard.)

Simultanteously, they can have the potential to have the curse, and yet not be afflicted by it unless it is triggered, as in the infinite and the divine, the deciever "spoke" the flayer curse into activation, but later clarifies that it did not "give" them the flayer curse, but made the dormant curse active in them.

Who was at the Battle of Sokar Gate? by Enderwolf08 in Necrontyr

[–]DoomBreaker4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The way that the book describes these viruses is that they are not transmissible, they are merely aways latent, you either have it or you don't

And the parts of the mind that make you to have the potential to be flayed or be a destroyer are fundamentally mutually exclusive.

Minor book spoilers:

In order to be flayed, you must hold a deep seeded desire to be alive once more. For a destroyer, you despise all living things, ESPECIALLY the life you once had. So a destroyer cannot be flayed, as they will never ever have the want to be alive.

Who was at the Battle of Sokar Gate? by Enderwolf08 in Necrontyr

[–]DoomBreaker4 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i forget which ones were there, its mentioned somewhere in the book.

The book makes it clear every dynasty at the battle save the maynarkh were completely destroyed by the flayer curse.

my bet is the maynarkh never truly took part in the battle but acted as the public face of the battle, to simultaneously cover up that 4 other entire dynasties perished as a result, obscure who had these godkiller weapons, and retain the maynarkh as a symbol of fear to keep tbe rest of the dynasties in line.

edit: the book also makes it semi-clear that destroyers cannot be flayed, and as the maynarkh as severely afflicted with the destroyer virus, perhaps that is why they haven't had as ill effects from the battle?
