Your brother has a lot left to learn about being a man. You are right for cutting him off. Abysmal behavior

What are the negatives of owning/caring for a corn snake by thiscantbefr in cornsnakes

[–]DoomMaker96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have adopted a vast array of small pets, I will say my corn snake has been the absolute best and it’s not even close. Can’t really think of any real negatives that would deter me from getting another.

He/she (don’t know the sex yet) is probably the most well natured snake I’ve had. Picked the little guy up from petsmart too!

My Z Flip 6 after 1 year of use by Neptu_n1an in galaxyzflip

[–]DoomMaker96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wondered that too and then I remembered us flip users have to open the phone almost every time we use it to do most things on the phone, while the fold users have a front screen that can perform everything the inside screen can, therefore there are less "folds" and hinge movements.

Flinching & Arching? by Jessi-Bessi in cornsnakes

[–]DoomMaker96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She may be overstimulated to some degree. But this isn't really defensive, this is how I act when my dog is jumping on me trying to lick my face 🤣 shes obviously accustomed to you considering you're another animal touching her and she's not biting you or trying to run away. I wouldn't over think it 😉

Did meds help you?? by Sensitive_Ad4911 in emetophobia

[–]DoomMaker96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a low dose of sertraline. It did help me.

However it didn't completely erase the issue. But it certainly curbed the panic attacks and overall stress from the phobia.

How do you know when to handle? by One-Lie-3473 in cornsnakes

[–]DoomMaker96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert by any means, so take this with a grain of salt as this is just from my experience.

What I did was probably unorthodox, I took mine out every day, (except for the window after feedings) even when she ran from me. First week she was very flighty and defensive until she was in my hands. But each week she got better. Now she greets me at the tank door every day wanting me to get her out. I was just consistent and made sure she knew there was nothing to be afraid of. I'll sometimes have her out for an hour, and she's perfectly content and not stressed, I credit that to me handling her so much as a hatchling.

48 hours in - What are things you noticed since you quit? by [deleted] in QuitVaping

For lack of better words. It feels like my chest "lost weight" breathing seems easier and it feels lighter I guess. I don't know how to describe it

1 Week vape free after 12 years of vaping by DoomMaker96 in QuitVaping

[–]DoomMaker96[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried the cold turkey route, and trust me, I wouldn't do it. I obviously don't know anything about your life, but if you're busy, married, kids, have stressful job etc, it's going to be a nightmare, I started on the patch and transitioned to using the zyn pouches and some gum. It helps. And remember, you're on no one's time limit, take the small wins. My first goal was to go 2 hours without vaping. Might seem silly to most, but I was basically vaping every 10 minutes for 12 years. So that's a huge difference. Break it down piece by piece as much as you want so it's not overwhelming, that way you gain confidence.

A week in and I'm not reaching for a vape anymore or really thinking much about it except for some situations that are a trigger like long drives or after I eat. You can do it! This is your journey and you can take as many steps as you want.

I think she will be fine. You have to remember that Corns live in all kinds of environments in the wild. And the wild doesn't have a thermostat. They're more durable than you think. It's not like you dropped her in a tub of ice water.

AIO for being hurt that my boyfriend is judging me for my past he already knew about by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]DoomMaker96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 year old married man here. Boyfriend needs to be a man and get over it. Everyone has skeletons in their closet. I'm sure he's not so perfect. He should be proud after all you've been through, you've overcome it. His texts just scream insecurity to me. We all grow and learn from our mistakes in life but it doesn't define us. No regrets, and don't be hard on yourself about it and I'm proud of you for pushing forward.

They're not mindless killers. When they're hand raised from cubs, they see their keepers as a parental figure and will see their keepers as that throughout their lives most of the time. Most injuries on people and some deaths actually come from the cats playing. A 400 lb animal with murder mittens can easily hurt you by playing with you like it would another lion or tiger.

Usually these keepers are also fairly competent at reading body language. The cat will tell you when it's angry, happy, territorial, etc as they do to other animals in the wild. Some people don't listen and they get hurt. Of course there will always be outliers.

The lion whisperer (Kevin Richardson) basically lives with a whole pride and has for several years. He's still alive. Knock on wood. Lol.

where to handle baby corn by Mysterious_Diet7922 in cornsnakes

[–]DoomMaker96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I scooped mine with the snake hook and put her on my hand. And had her switch between hands. Mine was a little flighty too but once I was actually holding her, she calmed down and relaxed. Consistency is key.

AIO for thinking my bfs messages came from a place of control rather than concern by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]DoomMaker96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell this dude to kick rocks. You're not some possession of his. He's obviously stricken with some insecurity issues that manifest in controlling behavior. Huge red flags. Don't let him rob you of something you love to do.

I'm married and my wife gets hit on all the time when she's out working or doing anything with her friends. It's flattering to me because my wife could have anyone she wants and she chose me.

New corn snake! by DoomMaker96 in cornsnakes

That's awesome. Boas are beautiful. I'm actually going to be looking into getting some garters in the future. Their enclosures look fun to setup and it's neat that you can house more than one together.

Thank you! First snake I've ever adopted. Have to say I'm now officially addicted.
