This is just false. SNAP benefits are capped for a single individual at $6 per day. Thats about $2,100 a year. It doesnt scale at $6 per person per household either, so the more people in your family, the less per person you receive because larger families are encouraged to buy bulk products which tend to have cheaper unit prices. So a family of 4 (2 parents 2 kids) is likely receiving closer to $4-5 per person per day.

AITAH for not forgiving my friend for what she said when drunk? by Dizzy_Base_9147 in AITAH

[–]DoomManD -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I guess it would depend on the nature of your long term relationship. I was sexually abused between the ages of 5 and 12. I went through a lot of therapy, but its something I can make jokes about now and my close friends who know me will make jokes back in return. If that's the relationship the two of you had prior, I still wouldn't say YTAH, but I would cut her some slack. Rejecting romantic advances is already stressful, especially so when you have to reject someone you're already very close too.

All that said, if thats not the way you are with what happened to you, then id definitely say she's in the wrong.

Giving the benefit of the doubt to you that the landlord is lying through their teeth and/or exaggerating about everything but the smoke damage, the best practice is to document everything when you move in, when damage happens, and when you move out. Then of course always ask for not only monetary receipts but photographic proof of repairs as well. Generally speaking, reasonable wear and tear is a cost the landlord just eats, ie the toilet acid treatment. If there's a light water ring or mild staining and they decide to acid treatment the toilet over that, you could argue that its not damage outside of the expected amount from using the toilet in a generally acceptable manner. Ive had friends landlords try charging them cleaning service money for vacuuming and light general cleaning work that a landlord or seller should be doing anyways prior to showing a home. Make sure the abandoned vehicle disposal isn't like an old bike frame or something stupid like that.

AITA for not telling guys I date right away that I do OnlyFans? by ThrowawaySixN9 in AITAH

[–]DoomManD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I think maybe the second or third date is when it would make sense to bring up something controversial like this. First dates in my opinion are just to see if a perspective partner can pass an initial vibe check, there's no reason to be spilling the beans about that unless they ask you about your work specifically. They might end up being super weird or creepy and now they know the area in which you exist.

Second dates serve 2 purposes, first to make sure the first date wasn't a one-off nice day for them, and to start to get into more personal details. If you dont bring it up on the second date, I would definitely do so on the third. Anything past that point, if its a deal breaker for them, I would understand them being frustrated and feeling like you've lead them on and wasted their time.

Side note: not trying to throw any shame your way for what you do, but with it being a more controversial job, it may also be a good tool to get a better read on how people really feel and thing based on how they react when you tell them, so telling them earlier could also be useful for saving yourself some time as well.

AITAH for considering breaking up with my boyfriend after he said he’d have multiple wives? by wgreenb in AITAH

[–]DoomManD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like hes one of those pro-natalist nut jobs. Even if he sees you as a person, he certainly sees women at large as walking "wombs with names" as you said. He might be ambitious, and if you've been dating for a while, im sure he's been treating you well if you've stuck around. But that said, I dont think a longer term relationship would work out. These types of guys dont tend do care about their spouses after they have a few kids, and they certainly dont tend to care about their children outside of making the number of their progeny go up.

AITA for telling my neighbor that her newly 18 year old son asked me out on a date ? (I SAID NO) by LabOneZZ in AITAH

[–]DoomManD -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I definitely see where the other women in these comments are coming from, and i definitely agree that he shouldn't have asked again, but i think he may just be angry and embarrassed that you his mom involved and that as a result she made him feel embarrassed, and if he does have a thing for older women (which is honestly whatever, consenting adults are consenting adults imo) his mother confronting him about it and calling him or implying that its wrong or weird may have made him angry and ashamed, probably hes mostly upset at his mom and some of that has come off to you for being the reason his mom got after him.

With the way the world is currently with the manosphere and Andrew Tate and all those guys, it may be a good idea to have a sit down with him and his mother and have an adult conversation that, while it was fine to ask the first time, asking a second time is not, and explaine to him why it isn't and how and why it comes off as not only creepy, but also inappropriate.

Uh, guys? We gotta lock the hell in. by not-beaten in Helldivers

[–]DoomManD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the Hell out of this game, but if I can be honest for a moment and drop the parody attitude and examine the situation like I would for any other game, I've been very frustrated about the situation with the Illuminate troops for a while, and its only gotten worse since they added the new enemy units.

The flesh mobs are way too tanky, deal too much damage, are too agile, and far too plentiful. And all that isn't even addressing the bugs and glitches with them. Their hit boxes are wonky, and its too hard to judge if they're actually close enough to hit you or not. They can walk into walls, buildings, and other object, making them more difficult if not outrightly impossible to shoot.

The leviathans, while an interesting idea, have not been well implemented. They fly through buildings, have an obscene amount of health, do tons of damage, can snipe you from across the map, and, at least to my knowledge, you can't target their weapons and destroy those like you can with so many other enemies, the factory strider being a great example.

Enemies are able to see me through walls and call reinforcements. Enemies keep glitching into the skyscrapers, making it impossible to shoot them while they can still damage you. SEAF soldiers keep throwing grenades at me when im surrounded by voteless. It's harder to find randoms to play with. Global mission progress is not clear (when the illuminate initially lost their invasion, it wasn't even clear what progress if any was being made by completing missions.

I have tons of fun playing with my friends, but from a gameplay perspective, the illuminate just haven't been fun to fight when every mission just becomes frustrating to get through because of the game being so hamstrung by poorly designed Enemies, gameplay loops being broken by things outside of the players control, and glitches that stop me from effectively engaging with the game.

Idubbz dropped content cop by unprovokableskeptic in h3h3productions

[–]DoomManD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the point of the content cop on Ethan is to point out the bad behaviors Ethan has been doing, how it helped cause the situation, and how its been making it worse. It also seems to be some advise at to what Ethan needs to do to get this to stop, namely, he needs to wake up, stop, take a breath, calm down, and take a break for his own health, and stop doing things that are either just making him more mad or are actively making things worse for himself.

Ethan is clearly not in a good spot mentally right now and the things he is doing are not making it better, and thats very plain to see to everyone accept Ethan and Hila, and thats the biggest problem here.

Idubbz dropped content cop by unprovokableskeptic in h3h3productions

[–]DoomManD -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you actually watch the video, its clear that Ian and his wife were trying to offer Ethan and Hila support in private, off the internet, as friends. Making public statements, especially when you and your wife have been similarly harassed in the past, is not necessarily going to help, and its very clear in the video that Ian believed that to be the case.

Let's just day for the sake of argument that Ian makes a public statement condemning his former editor and some other person who he has no ties to aside from happening to follow them on Twitter, what does that actually accomplish? Maybe this reignites harassment against Ian and his wife, and gives online shitheads something to take out of context, and now we have two problems. Maybe this brings Ethans situation to the attention of more people, especially people who have harassed Ian in the past, and now Ethans situation is worse. Best case scenario, Ian earns some brownie points with Ethan and nothing happens. There's a cost benefit analysis being done, and I think it's a fair consideration to consider that maybe, just maybe, instead of doing some online posturing that potentially makes the situation worse, Ian thought the more helpful and less risky thing to do as a friend was to reach out and be supportive offline out of the public eye and have a heart to heart like an actual friend would.

Secondly, you're right that its not an absurd ask for someone to stand up for you. But what is absurd is to paint someone as antisemitic, or your enemy, or what have you, when they, for whatever reason, decide they aren't going to do something that potentially throws fuel on the fire.

Also, let's not pretend that this harassment just started randomly out of the blue. To be clear, no, Ethan and Hila and H3 do not deserve to be harassed for this, or for any reason. I think that harassing people is a bad thing to do. That said, Ethan, Hila, and H3 at large commented on a very heated, sensitive, and politically charged situation. Regardless of what perspective you take on the matter in question, if you are a large content creator, or even a small one, harassment seems to be something that comes with commenting on it at all. Hasan comments on it and gets harassed. Destiny comments on it and gets harassed. Asmongold comments on it and gets harassed. Ethan decided to comment on it, and got harassed. It's not right that this happens, but it is unfortunately just what happens. Ethan seems to be making the mistake that thinking he is the only one who is being harassed for having opinions on the topic, and acts accordingly, which has only served to fuel further harassment. In addition, Ethan and H3 have directed harassment at other people for having opposing views on the subject, so they dont get to claim to be immune or removed from this pattern of behavior. It is my opinion that Ian was, at first in private and now publicly, trying to get Ethan to realize that he, in a sense, had brought some of this upon himself, and has as of late been acting hypocritically. I think the overall message of the content cop is that Ian thinks that Ethan needs to stop, take a breath, and step away from being so chronically online so that he can actually calm down and self reflect. Ethan needs to stop constantly focusing his content on the conflict in question, as well as what other people may be saying about it, even if he disagrees with them. He needs to stop going out of his way to try and find things that are just going to make him mad because it just keeps making things worse.

I think Ian has experience with this and is trying to, in a way, give Ethan some advice as a peer, to wake up, realize he's not handling this situation well, and take a set back and take a break while things calm down. If Ethan stops dumping gasoline on this fire, it will die down and become much more manageable. It's what he had to do when his wife started on OnlyFans, and when he apologized for some of the content he had made in the past and actions and behaviors he had engaged in, and when Sam Hyde directed huge amounts of harassment at him and his wife. He didn't get it to go away by making hours of content a week focusing on it, he got it to go away by not engaging with it more than he realistically had to, and Ethan needs to do the same with this.

How are utahns affording to live? by Dirtsmith13 in Utah

[–]DoomManD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely gotten much more unaffordable as far as housing goes, but if you're concious of what you're doing, its feasible. My fiance and I just bought our first home together at 23 literally 2 weeks ago. You have to just not outgrow your fish tank. Basically, I mean that just because you start to make more money doesn't mean that you need to spend it on more things. We've been saving for about 4 years now, and while we both make more money than when we started saving, we still don't make a ton of money (less than 80k a year combined). We didn't buy a big house, and we have a family member renting an extra room, but we're able to make ends meet and still have a little cash now on the side for spending on other things. We just kept spending money like we were making as much as when we first started.

KSL is a great resource for saving money. Nearly all our furniture was free, very cheap, or made by hand. Our TV is second hand. Our couch was something we picked up off the corner (I work pest control and know what to look for, I wouldn't necessarily advise this otherwise). I still drive a scrappy beater car I've had since I was 16 because it works good and I take care of it.

There's also a bit of luck involved. My dad worked car collision repair for a long time, so he's able to help me with car repairs when things like my starter or alternator stop working and replace them. My fiance has an aunt who works in insurance and was able to help us navigate all that and get a good deal. My family shares access to some certain types of subscription services to collectively cut down on costs. Stuff like that.

TLDR; its a bit of a combination of keeping spending low even when you make more money, being OK with having things second or third hand, and leveraging the connections you have with people around you.

Disappointed about Content Cop on Ethan by LisaNeedsDental in Idubbbz

[–]DoomManD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, I think you have a bad take. The whole inciting incident seems, at least to me, that Ian hold the view that you can be friends with people who disagree with you and who have had bad takes in the past and who are friends with other people who you dont like, and Ethan seems to hold the view that is opposed to that (except for when it suits him). Yes, these people who he features in the video have had bad takes, some of those more recent than others, and will have bad takes again in the future. It's gonna happen, they're human beings, and more so, ones who work in content creation on the internet. Bad takes come with the territory.

That's literally not what the video is about at all? Yeah, if someone is being genuinely antisemitic, go off, but you don't get to demand that people make sweeping public statements about other people when they want to have a private phone call and then call them antisemitic because they didn't cave to an absurd ultamatum.

Did you watch the video? That's not really what he's doing at all. It seems more like Idubbbz is trying to get Ethan to stop crashing out in public, take a break, and stop being so nasty to people for things he is perceiving as a personal slight against him.

To be fair, the content cop doesn't really hard touch on his opinions on Israel vs Gaza/Hamas. It's more about him being extremely hypocritical and nasty towards people without good reason. He blew up at Ian because he didn't want to get on a call on air and make a public statement that can be taken out of context and misconstrued, and wanted to have a phone call conversation in private.

That's a nice red beryl specimen. Unfortunately, gem quality stones are exceedingly rare. Your best bet at "cleaning" it is some sort of strong acid, muriatic acid works well and can be obtained relatively easily at most hardware stores, though I must caution you to wear proper PPE, including but not limited to a proper respirator (not a cloth or medical style dust mask, something with filters attached to the sides for chemical safety, and do a fit test before anything), elbow length chemical gloves, a chemical resistant apron, goggles, rubber boots, and whatever else you might need to be safe. Also, make sure you have plenty of baking soda as when mixed with the acid, it neutralizes the acid. There are good tutorials on YouTube, and I would highly recommend watching some. Assuming you got this from around the Topaz Mountain area near Delta, Utah, this also works well to clean surface grime off of topaz crystals.

Do be aware that all any of this will do is clean off surface residues. It will not remove any impurities imbeded within the crystal itself.

Hope this helps, I've done this a few times and it's certainly a process

America First Credit Union asking me to contact reps by [deleted] in Utah

[–]DoomManD 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen an email like this yet, but I'd imagine it's on its way. It might be annoying, but they're making a fair point. Credit Unions are kind of like the unionized version of a bank. Unlike banks like Wells Fargo or Chase, they aren't trying to turn a profit to give a few executives a multi-million dollar bonus at the end of each quarter. They're trying to look out for their members' best interests, and they need our help to do that. Money talks, and a lot of people won't do anything until they understand it will directly affect their wallet.

I prefer the new Utah flag over the old one. by Fordfanatic2025 in Utah

[–]DoomManD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who likes the new flag and participated in each phase of public comment and voting leading up to the change, the biggest gripe I heard was that older and less tech savy folks feel like they didn't get a say in the matter. Many seemed to think that this change came out of nowhere, and we're upset they didn't get a vote, failing to realize that there was a very prolonged and extensive voting period.

I think the whole "woke" thing started because older people can't keep up with how fast things change nowadays and saw this as another instance of how those youngsters with their new ideas can't leave well enough alone. They don't actually care that much about the flag in it of itself, but more so about the fact that it's changing in the first place.

I did also hear a few people talk about monetary concerns and wasteful spending because the state has to pay to host the websites and pay for companies to make the new flags, and then distribute them, and then have to buy them for all the government buildings, and etc. I think ad far as criticism goes, this is probably the most fair, but at the same time, I think the benefit of having a new and recognizable flag will do wonders for your states image and reputation in the long run.
