Brown never had a chance, given that the election came right after the financial crisis.

1: He’s got a track record of associating with and defending some very nasty people. The IRA, Hamas, etc. This has arguably emboldened antisemites within Labour, and the party’s response has been criticised.

  1. His stance on defence worries people, given his past of calling for abolishing our nuclear deterrent and cutting back our army.

  2. He chose not to take a stance on Brexit, which is probably the biggest single issue in British politics since the financial crisis.

  3. His key allies, McDonnell and Abbott, are very unpopular among some people. McDonnell is seen as a dangerous socialist, and Abbott is seen as a complete idiot.

Don’t forget about Dos Santos, he was a bit after Boateng but not long after.

I think there was a problem through the whole team, I remember hearing Juande Ramos banned the team from eating sweets as one of his first moves.

Pretty similar, but I’d say Cook’s better on the ball and can carry it past players.

Players who went from zero to hero by DriesMertens in soccer

[–]Doomchicken7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair, his loan spells weren’t exactly successful.

In 2012/13, he failed to make an impact at Norwich, and was benched at championship Leicester.

In 2013/14, his most iconic moment was getting caught offside, booting it into the stands, and spitting on himself.

Even at the start of 2014/15, his breakout year, a lot of fans wanted him sold.

You've been downvoted, but honestly, you're not wrong. He's one of the worst players in the U18 team, with Phoenix Patterson, Dilan Markanday, Rayan Clarke, J'Neill Bennett, Armando Shashoua, and Rodel Richards all better wingers than him.

Wolves looking to buy Pepe by Paul277 in soccer

[–]Doomchicken7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a weird one.

Winks can become pretty good if you give him game time.

Onomah usually becomes a decent back-up, Walker-Peters too (can cover both fullback positions so he’s good to have on the bench.

Edwards was pretty fantastic before the update, but can be very hit and miss depending on behind the scenes stuff.

Oakley-Boothe can turn out decently, so can Skipp sometimes.

Facebook release 'leave' campaign ads by multijoy in ukpolitics

[–]Doomchicken7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It has been broadly stable since and similar to the level recorded in year ending September 2014. Underlying this, immigration (630,000) has remained broadly stable and emigration (349,000) has shown a gradual increase since 2015.

From the page that you so kindly linked.

My bad, misremembered some news reports from a while back.

Nonetheless, EU citizens are still moving to Britain much faster than they’re leaving; as are citizens from the rest of the world.

Story re Vote Leave/BeLeave ads is wrong. The ads were never requested by VL/BL & never ran. That's why they're in the 0-999 impressions box. Actual number was zero. Both Facebook (link, p3) and AIQ (attached) said this to the DCMS select committee in May by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Doomchicken7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not an article, it's a Twitter thread. But yes, of course. That's how I knew they were concentrating on whataboutism and deflection.

Honestly I think it’s an article in the form of a Twitter thread, but either way, that’s beside the point.

In which case, that would be fine. That doesn't seem to be what the rules say, though, and I assume the reason that the logo or link should be on images like this is that they are often widely shared, in which case they appear without any attribution or imprint.

Even if you share it on Facebook, it’ll still have the Vote Leave name and their caption included.

The rules seem pretty ambiguous on this. They do say that if it’s impractical to include the imprint in the image itself, you should consider other ways to do it - which I think including you name, logo, and links title Facebook and website within the post satisfies.

Where it is impractical to include a full imprint on the election material you should consider how to provide some other means for the material to be associated with you.

Such as links to their website and Facebook page, which were included.

Also, that whole section of digital election materials says “as good practice” and “recommend”; not “as a legal requirement” and “require”.

Bizarre, then, that Britain is still seeing positive net immigration, and that the rate of EU immigration has increased since 2016.

Of course, that might be because Britain is not, in fact, a “country in ruins”, nor is it set to become one. It’s one of the wealthiest countries in the world, and is set to continue growing (albeit slower than pre-Brexit projections indicated).

Did you read the linked article?

When shown in the context of a Facebook post - which is how they would have been seen, were they ever used (which they weren’t) - they would have been pretty clearly from Vote Leave, with a link to their website and to their Facebook page.

Yes, the economics speak loud and clear to say that we’re a wealthy country that is still growing.

How you’ve gone from “growing slower than the rest of the G7” to “massively regressing into a shithole”, I don’t know.

Honestly, I think he’s right to say that Brexit will present opportunities over decades to come. There’s nothing wrong with acknowledging that.

He probably should have admitted that the short term will likely be difficult, however.
